We have a game in hand though. And they'll still play the counter in Belfast judging by this.
Ah didn't realise, playing in europa nations league of course.

They will but they created some really good chances first half v Germany, Washington had one on one but couldn't score. Very tough to beat in Belfast if you look at their competitive record in last five years, think Germany is only team to win there since 2013.

Babel taken off, no space to run into so completely ineffective. I would say the same about Memphis but he'll probably hit in a 40 yard free kick a minute after I post it.

Anyway Van De Beek and Malen on so one of those could well make the difference with their fresh legs.

That's all they've got going for them though. Hard to beat. Teams like these infuriate me.

Most international teams are like that though.

Portugal have one of best players in modern history and they were just a brick wall during Euro 2016 and obviously had players in final third to win the games 1-0. Uruguay have two of best strikers in world football and they basically set up as Atletico Madrid.

Think I read a while ago over 60% of goals at international level are scored from set pieces so that gives indication of how tight things are in normal play.

Given lack of world class strikers for Holland atm I imagine in Euro 2020 you will focus on getting clean sheets given the great options at the back if target is something like semi finals.

Come on now, what do you expect. Our front 3 are championship level at best, infact most of our lineup are.

We usually play decent football. This isn’t a day for trying it though. Just accept Holland will have nearly all the ball and keep it compact.
No you don't. National team equivalent of Pulis' WBA.

Didn't expect much but this is just parking a bus on a bus. 0 intention to score. A yellow card for time wasting after 52 minutes ffs. Cowardly.

You’re talking about a team with championship/league one level talent going against a team with top tier, world class talent.

Them going away from home and trying to play open football against you would be suicidal. This is all they’re capable of whilst keeping the game remotely competitive.

I get that it’s frustrating/annoying but if you were the Northern Ireland coach, you’d know this was your best chance of a huge point.

This narrow pitch works in Northern Ireland's favor. Less space to cover.

Memphis back to his 2015-16 form. Wild shooting tonight.

GET IN!!!!!

I love N. Ireland and Iceland. They can punch so far above their weight internationally, it's brilliant!

Yer fecking first attack and our defenders just lose the plot
Yeah heard De Ligt miskicked or something, having a difficult few months. Teething problems I guess from not the most confident start at Juve.

Memphis. Been shite but there you go 1-1. Holland got time for a winner still.

Peacock Farrell played well considering he's hardly played since January, claimed loads of crosses.

Maybe if you had to pick from League 1, the Championship or the Irish League for all your players (bar maybe 2 in the Premiership) you might see things differently.

Norn Iron sub off Millwall midfielder for Blackpool midfielder.

Just shows lack of depth they have even compared to other home nations.

Funny how often that happens. A team park the bus all game, grab a goal and then immediately concede.

Loss of concentration combined with a more energised opponent, perhaps?

Funny isn’t it. So many of those Dutch players alone are worth more than your entire squad, of course you’re going to play defensively!

Huge props to N.Ireland tonight. Exceptional organisation, teamwork and commitment in the face of a far more talented opponent.

Just because you have less talented players doesn't make your approach any less cowardly. You've literally been trying to waste as much time as possible for the entire second half.

I feel like you’re just frustrated. You can’t really think there’s any other way Northern Ireland could play these kind of games with any kind of success?

Why wouldn't they though?

Draw and they stay 3 points ahead of Dutch with home game to play where anything could happen.

Would still expect Holland to get 2nd anyway but more exciting................

Ah 2-1 Holland. This game had a predictable ending. Holland pretty much in Euro 2020 now.
