Liverpool fans living on past achievements again.

You last won the CL 2005, a decade and a half ago, it's time to get past that and start celebrating your most recent success, such as finally winning the league after a 30-year drought.
Oh.. For a moment I thought we won the CL last season..

Man Utd were widely regarded as a cup team in the 70's & 80's. We were blocked out of the European Cup due to not being good enough to win the league. Liverpool have had no such restrictions on entering the competition. When they were good they qualified automatically. When they were bad they still mostly qualified as they only had to finish in the top 4.

There has never been a change in the format of the league. It's always been 1st place wins it. Liverpool were never blocked out of the league the way we were in the European Cup."

Man what you are sahing here is coming up with excuses for not winning the CL that often. I think it will be very justifiable if next time Liverpool fans say "We didnt win league because of changes in the format, we were a two point per win team which couldnt cope with financial aspects introduced in 90s."

Now doesnt really matter how you put it liverpoop has more CL than Utd under both the formats. 3 CLs when you had to finish 1st in the league and 3 CLs when you could qualify for it by finishing top 4 comapred to united's 1 and 2 respectively. Also i think it was much harder to win in the old format because of poor scouting network, travels were more gruesome, every team was leagye champion(no bad team) and back in the day the gulf between quality of football across various nations wasnt as bad as its today and most importantly it was knockout, so any mistake and you are knocked out.

He's got a point. Liverpool were fortunate to have their period of dominance in an era where English clubs won the European Cup almost every season. Nottingham Forest won it, and then retained it. Aston Villa won it. Whoever won the English title won the European Cup too. English clubs won it six seasons in a row between 1977 and 1982, and a seventh time in eight seasons in 1984. Then in 1985 Liverpool got us all banned from Europe and that was the end of that. When English clubs were allowed back into Europe it took a long time to even be able to compete again as football had left us behind.

We didn't have the same luxury during our period of dominance. It took a long time to even be able to compete at European level, and then we had the misfortune to keep running into arguably the best club side of the modern generation. I think we could have done better overall but it was much easier for Liverpool to capitalise on their era of dominance than it was ours. Even last season, they came up against Spurs. No disrespect to them, because they did brilliantly to get there, but I think most fans would be happy if they got to a CL final against Spurs rather than Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or whoever.
na I’m not having that. They were dominant when they were, and we weren’t. It was everyone’s to win then and we didn’t compete. Just like now. The rest of Europe’s clubs are in transition, rebuilding or just not that good at the moment, and now Liverpool are at their peak. Is that lucky too? Don’t sound like a bitter fan, just accept they’ve been excellent in Europe over the years.

Bloody hell. United fans have now gone from trying to devalue our achievements to airbrushing them from history.

Desperate times need desperate measures I suppose.

Liverpool have been in the CL 9 times in the past 30 years.
United had been in the CL 23 times in the past 30 years plus being by far the better team than Liverpool for most of those seasons

Yet still they won it the same number of times as you in the past 30 years.

In fact they've reached a CL final 4 times out of those 9 times which is amazing by itself.

That is crazy. I didn't realise we had only been in the CL 9 times in the last 30. :(

That’s a weird point considering we knocked out Bayern and Barcelona on the way to the final.

That's Real Madrid like. I didn't know they had been that good in CL. A proper cup team.

I count 11. Twice with houllier, six times with Rafa, once with Rodgers and twice under Klopp (not counting this season).

You're right, just checked Uefa website. We did not play in it once between 1985 to 2001. Dark days for all sorts of reasons. Good to see we were (are) still royalty upon our return. :)

It's even more amazing because they haven't really had that good of a team until recently (compared to the obvious contenders)
Wonder why the record is so good though...is it because of Anfield?

1. Rafa was an excellent manager and could out-do anyone over two legs (the single reason José never won CL in England with Chelsea)
2. Klopp has built a genuinely excellent side of elite quality so CL Final is about right.
3. Yes, Anfield - opponents shrink and the home side become incredible.

City's Christmas fixtures now as follows: Wolves at 19:45 on the 27th, Sheffield at home on the 29th at 18:00, then Everton at home on 1 January at 17:30. Three games in six days.

Liverpool have: Leicester on 26th at 20:00, Wolves on the 29th at 14:00, then Sheffield on 2 January at 18:00. Three games in eight days.

Excellent and fair planning from the FA.

They create their own luck mate, when will people finally understand this?

Glad someone else did the maths because I could not be arsed working it out in hours. This is indefensible from the FA. It's hard to not appear as if they have made a conscious decision to ensure Liverpool get as much as rest as possible for their games compared to City.

Why weren't you crying about all the times when we were fced on Christmas with the schedule?

It's just the way the luck falls unfortunately, and they are making tons of it. They have brought in a dedicated team who work day and night making all the luck they need. You have to admire the innovation really.

Well, that's not going to suit the narrative but we've been shafted a fair few times over Christmas schedules. Remember the Rodgers season where we lost the upper hand in the title race when having to travel to the other two title challengers, City and Chelsea, on the 26th and 28th. Schedules during Klopp's first two seasons were also less than ideal if I recall correctly. Someone is always going to get shafted over this period, happy it's not us for a change. Anyway, we will still arguably have the busiest schedule around Christmas having to travel to Qatar because of the World Club Championship.

It’s an abomination, that.

Disgraceful once again from the powers that be. How often has this been the case now in their favour? Last season was the exact same.

Stop with this agenda-driven nonsense! Clearly someone at the FA wants us to win it.

(don't tell them it's the broadcaster that have moved the fixtures). Where have my white text privileges gone?

If they don't get across the line this season, what a monumental disaster that would be! To have one hand on the Premier League title for the 1st time again and lose it.

It surely cannot happen twice, or is it 3? Times, didn't Gerrard have a Terry slip, and let it go then! Must be there year has to be there year, the Football gods are shinning on them , or is it VAR! .

Open top bus booked ,streets will be choc a blok, bindippers will be out in there droves. Sky will do a special on how they ruled the Premier league, they will drag out all the old old boys who last won the Division 1 title, be a petition on line for a public holiday only on the Mersey.
Or may be it may never happen.. long way to go! It could be a Devon lock moment . Never the less I'd put my Congrats in now, because if it happens. I will Hibernate for a few Months.

In 13/14 we played City away on 26th December, and then Chelsea away 48 hours later.

The conspiracy theories on here at times are baffling. Is this what we used to be like when you were really good?

Pretty much, it’s the tribal nature of football fans, we were the exact same, or you’ve ever read RAWK over the last 7 years or so.

Only accept this when there’s one game to go and they’re at least 4 points ahead.

To quote the shy and retiring former DUP ‘politician’, Ian Paisley, no surrender!!
