Surprised to see no thread on this. All the ‘football banter’ pages are having a field day with it on Twitter with ‘Danny Mills’ now trending.

Is he right though? Which of our players would get in currently? Arguments for Pogba > Henderson and Maguire > Matip ?

I’m struggling other than that.

This stuff used to annoy me when we were winning titles and some fool would stick a hyypia in over ferdinand or something. These days they can say whatever they want with perfect value, we struggle to take shots

Don’t see much wrong with it. DDG isn’t as good as he used to be. Pogba on his day but that isn’t that often.

Matip has been pretty decent whenever i've seen him but I think Maguire gets in. On pure talent Pogba gets in the midfield too. Other than that it's hard to make an argument for many more United players though he's obviously trolling.

Let Mills have his banter. Any combined 11 of Liverpool/United over the last 20 years would see at least 10 United players and Luis Suarez being the only pool player there.

Pogba walks into that team and Maguire is better than Matip. Other than that, can't really complain.

Would be fair enough if Alisson wasn’t in goal. You can’t pick a team on form then go with a player who’s been injured all season.

It’s a sad indictment of how far Utd have fallen. DDG would never get in the team, too slow with poor distribution. Pogba doesn’t put the required effort in and Maguire would be behind all 4 Liverpool centre backs.

Wind the clock back 15 years and it would be almost the reverse of this.

Pogba is miles better than any of their midfielders individually, but he doesn't suit Klopp's style at all (and for some reason I'd assume that it would be Klopp and not Ole at the helm of the combined XI). De Gea & Maguire, the only other players that can try to get in are also stylistically unsuited to Klopp's football, but their counterparts are probably good enough to keep them out regardless (considering De Gea's poor form).

Anyway, you can see one or two of our players possibly getting in, but the horrible thing is that Mills' XI is not truly unreasonable.

I would take any sort of win against them.. just to say we are still Manutd and Old Trafford is not an easy place to come.

On the strength of this season it's DDG or even Adrian if you're feeling spiteful (which Danny obviously is). Maguire and Pogba are knocking on the door too.

That being said it isn't easy to get more than one or two of ours in, which says it all unfortunately.

The individuals at Liverpool have the benefit of being under an extremely well oiled system, under a world class coach.

Matip isn’t better than Maguire as an individual, despite being in quality form this season. Pogba would walk in to the Liverpool midfield on an ability basis and clearly should make a combined XI.


It’s a bit of a pointless thing to do. You’d get similar results combining Spurs with Liverpool right now. Let’s measure up a bunch of players in top form against a really struggling side. Why?

Biased? Nah Maguire has not been good enough this season but only conceded the 8 goals compared to 4 mistakes VVD alone has made that have cost Liverpool goals.

Yes, I understand you don’t rate these players. Matip isn’t that great, we have three to four defenders in our team that can do what he does and do it that much better. Martial is a more clinical finisher than Firmino, so of course he can get into the team. Mctominay has the strength, energy and footballing iq to play in the box to box role. He has been easily one of our most consistent midfielder for awhile and his contribution goes underrated. So imo, he can also get in.

Let's be real, we struggle to get a shot on goal in the full 90 nowadays. We're being embarrassed every week, whether it's bottom of the league Newcastle, Rochdale at home or Alkmaar away. Take your pick.

We're content with having a nobody in managerial terms who's completely out of his depth managing us.

Right now we're an arrogant has been of a club dining out on past glories. They're all a disgrace.

Subs: Allisson, Matip, AWB, Henderson, Milner, Shaqiri/Origi, Martial

Frankly that starting eleven picks itself. Very, very easy to say that is the definitive combined eleven if you ignore current form.
