Our loss against Fortuna Sittard after heroically beating Port 4 days before. How the feck can we be so much worse in some matches. It's infuriating.

I think in LVG’s last season, the loss at Upton Park when they were carrying our players off the pitch. We needed a win to qualify for the champions league, we couldn’t give a feck.

Yes that game for sure and I could never take Herrera seriously again after that

Under Fergie-the derby at Etihad in 2012 that basically won them the league. Not too many others stand out.

Post Fergie its more the question how many performances were gutsy because for every example like FA Cup final with 10 men in extra time under LvG theres about 15 where we sucked and had no fight.

Last season against Liverpool at Anfield, absolutely no intention of attacking just concerned with avoiding a hiding.

PSG's fan here, we had some recently.

FCB - PSG : 6-1 ( I won't talk about the referee, even if it was one of the biggest robbery ever, our players perf was very poor)

PSG - MU : 3-1 (no need to explain)

Not sure about 'gutless' but some of the European performances in the 05-06 season against Lille and Benfica were horrific to watch. The team could barely string two passes together in Europe and we deserved to get knocked out of the CL that season. Also the 4-1 defeat to Middlesborough that year with it's infamous aftermath was pretty dire.

Why is it threads like this always have people mentioning games from a week or 2 back?

The thread says most gutless performance you have "ever seen", so unless you've only been watching football 1-2 weeks, it will not be that, it's nonsense recency bias.

How long is a piece of string?

There's been so many over these past 6 years I've lost track.

Remember us getting hammered 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield after beating them in the League Cup final under Pellegrini. There's no way to prove we didn't put a team out that night but I'm working on a theory. The only proof there is of a City player being on the pitch that night is a Jesus Navas yellow card in the second half.

Middlebrough 8 - 1 City. Every player bar Richard Dunne (who himself got sent off early) laughing and joking after the match like they'd just been for Sunday dinner or some shit. Cowards to a man everyone of them.

The game that made me hate James Milner, meaningless game, he scored the peno to make it 3-0 and celebrated like he'd just drawn 2-2 at West Brom.

we’ve had some bad ones lately but the one we genuinely gave up on seemingly was the Juventus game at home last season. That was REALLY bad. We just sat in our half.

It felt like the players were obeying mourinho in a spiteful way - we didn’t press them ONCE in the first half.

Second half improved but it was pathetic.

The Man City game at old Trafford under mourinho was bad too. After they scored it felt like we finally started playing, it was like our players decided to start playing their own way and actually trying. We had already given away like 9-10 shots on goal and when we started playing it was pretty much even at one point which was INFURIATING. We didn’t even try until they scored.

No effort in those games, and that’s unforgivable.

Yep, agree with you. I remember that not even for a second had I thought we were going to win. An absolutely embarassing game.
Well, we are due to play LFC in a few days, and the upcoming performance could quite possibly be worse than Jose's last match for us.
Ole seems determined to pull out all the stops to get those negative records.

The last days of Pellegrini's reign were particularly dark, come to think of it - a number of games could have been picked as nominations for this 'gutless' prize. So much of the blame is falsely attributed to the announcement that Pep would be taking over but the rot had set in way before then. Pellegrini managed 114 Premier League games at City - in his first 57 league matches he achieved 129 points (2.26 points per game), in his last 57 league matches he achieved just 102 (1.79 points per game). He was the ideal manager for the post-Mancini era because he restored harmony and fluidity to a very talented squad, but he should have been sacked after we lost the title to Chelsea in 2015. After that first summer when we signed Fernandinho and Negredo all he did was make the squad worse and worse with every window that passed.

Dzeko was frozen out for Bony. Javi Garcia was replaced by Fernando. Demichelis, Clichy, and Navas were allowed to linger-on well past their sell-by dates. We went from having striker options of Aguero, Dzeko, and Negredo to Aguero, Bony and Kelechi within two years. He signed Sterling but had no idea how to properly coach him, he signed De Bruyne but didn't know where to play him. The fitness levels of our players by the end were absolutely atrocious and took a ridiculous amount of work from Pep to sort it out. It got the point where we'd drop points if a team fancied a game - the back half of the 14/15 season where we won exactly 3 away games out of 9, the first half of the 15-16 season where we went 6 away games without a win, our home form during Pellegrini's last season was worse than our home form under Hughes ffs.

Sevilla loss under Mourinho
Olympiakos loss under Moyes

Both of these were midseason Champions League football matches. Mental how poor we looked.

The answer is Liverpool away 17/18 simply becsause they were shipping goals at the time for fun and we were scoring for fun, well ahead of them in the league. Yet we went there and parked the bus wanting no more than a draw. Complete gutless and the moment I started to turn against Mou. Seville at home, the moment everybody turned against him, is well up there.

Olympiakos away for sure.

The first real sign to me that the United we knew and loved was dying and that Moyes was never the right man.

One of the 3-0 losses to pool or city under Moyes. Liverpool could've put 5 past us that day

Sadly the list is becoming too large to single out a specific match, starting from the 4-1 defeat vs City, 0-1 home defeats vs Newcastle and Everton all under Moyes all the way up to our recent listless defeat vs Newcastle.

I hope I'm wrong, but I have an eerie feeling we will add another game to the list at the end of next week.

For me it has to be Olympiacos away in the Moyes season, we lost 0-2 and I had never seen less effort and fight from a group of players in a CL KO match in my life, it was absolutely disgraceful, we were thoroughly outplayed by a Championship level side.
Also home to Spurs under Moyes. Honourable mention to Mourinho against Sevilla of course.

I try to block out a lot of stuff from things post Sir Alex so I have to choose one from his era and one that really sticks out is the FA Cup tie against Leeds when Beckford’s goal knocked us out. One of the worst performances I’d seen.

Losing 3-0 at home to York City in 1995, despite most of the first team being internationals was pretty dreadful.
