Are you telling me that just because some moron was prepared to pay 52m for a guy barely worth half of that, should be used as a some pretext that the manager was backed?
Isn't that what backing means? Getting the player manager wants.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
I am probably one of the only people on the planet right now that actually thinks Fred has a lot to offer if used correctly. Put him in a 3 along side Pogba, McTomminay and he probably does really well.
I don't know about 'really well', but I do want to see that three man midfield and suspect he'll look quite a lot better if we play it somewhat consistently.

That part is completely optimistic on my part, which I think goes back to days of Anderson. Fred reminds me of him in a lot of ways. Both full of energy and tend to play with a smile, are able to carry the ball forward and you can so often see the passes they are trying to make but, so often that touch, the right pace of the ball is just not there. With Anderson, it always seemed like once he got a run of games he'd find that rhythm but, then breakdown injured so it never really materialized. With Fred, it seems like he hasn't got a proper run in that 3rd CM role - where he is that in between providing defensive energy and also able to contribute going forward.

Not that I expect to see it anytime under Ole but, Pogba, Fred and McTomminay would be quite a solid setup.

Have to assume he'll move to Serie A or La Liga and find a manager and club that suited him like Shaktar did - for like a third of what we paid for him - and have some very decent seasons in his late 20s. Like Poborsky did at Benfica and Lazio after struggling for us.
He’ll stay put. Not many knocking on the door for him and we are super light in midfield. He’ll come good. Under Ole and or if the likes of Rogers comes here next season.

Never ever buy a Brazilian player with a lame name.

Brazil’s attacking quadrant when they lost 7-1 to Germany was Fred, Hulk, Oscar and Bernard. Coincidence? I don’t think so.

If you ever buy a Brazilian, you go after players with a name like Jairzinho, Rivellino, Romario, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Ronaldo...

What the feck do you expect from players called Fred or Bebe? Bound to fail.

No Sons either, unless they're from S.Korea.

Kleberson, Anderson... Sonny Anderson doesn't count though as it's a mixture.

Some Swedish ones were pretty good as well - Patrik Andersson, Torbjorn Nilsson and Henrik Larsson.

Another erratic, risky display today. Beginning to think he will never help us control a midfield.

He was very good today. He suits a high tempo game and is always better next to McTominay.

On the ball he was pretty crap but positionally he was very good and his workrate meant we never looked under threat for most of that game.

He played well enough off the ball but it fecking terrifies me any time one of our players passes to him.

How has anyone decided he is worth 52 mio pounds. One of our worst ever signings, at least Sanchez had some good games but haven't seen that with Fred.

The chaotic nature of the game suited him, couldn't criticisize his efforts. He covered serious amount of ground today and won a lot of 50/50 battles. He wasn't as bad passing the ball as usual either. McTominay on the other hand was, in my opinion, very poor. Couldn't get a grip of the game at all and was often left for dead. I think when the pace of a game is as franatic as it was today at times his lack of first touch and his lack of pace is very evident. At least Fred could shuttle across and makes tackles and cover ground. Same as Perriera. Don't get me wrong, don't think either of them are anywhere near the standard needed to get this club back to where we all want it to be.

Under a tree.
He has the attributes and elegances to be a top player, but its like he's trying doing it in Doc Martens. Some of his touches and passing can be awful at times

Crap? That's nonsense
His passing was atrocious, gave the ball away at least three times in the second half alone. Was decent when he finally went to ground to make a tackle when we hunkered down and parked the bus.

I think it's because in the big games he's been given clear instructions on what to do.

Good performance from him. There's definitely a player there.

He's very good at closing down and harassing players but ridiculously sloppy on the ball.

Effective but extremely limited. We were mugged but can still get some value out of him as a destructive midfielder

Caf standards..

It's either he's crap or great performance.

He worked his arse off tonight, give Fred the credits he deserves.

He made many mistakes that could had end up on conceding. Wont get mention as much since his mistakes didnt impact the result but he lost the ball stupidly on a throw that became a counterattack that Firminho wasted by shooting soft. Then again lost a ball because of poor controlling and again another counter attack by Liverpool.

He has great stamina and works his ass off, but ability wise he is not good enough.

He was very solid and decent today. He's been made the scapegoat even though Juan Mata, and sometimes Andreas usually perform worse than him.

Fred absolutely can do a job in certain systems despite never making risky passes, which is what we need more of from midfield.

Had 2 good chances in the match and the 2nd one surely had the time/space to get some bend on the ball - this would have given him so much confidence.

Still gets knocked off the ball too easily and nowhere near Utd quality but did ok today.

This guy was absolute shit once again. How can anyone give him credit for that is beyond me. You can count on one hand what useful did he do. He was caught on the ball in dangerous position, he hit his midfield partner in the back with a pass and lost a ball, has zero defensive awareness and shoots like shit. Horrendous footballer that should be released, because I am not sure how can anyone offer money for that incompetence.

Its more the idiotic nature of the players around him too. You don't do a throw in to the smallest player in our team with his back to the liverpool defense
