We need more than 3 players to improve this squad but to start with we definitely know we 2 forward players and a midfielder to play the 4-3-3 system. Sancho should play on the right with a good substitute striker who's a proven goalscorer. Neves is the midfielder that must be brought in.

I wonder what is less likely: Us singing 4 players in January or finishing top 4 this season.
With the current squad I predicted 8th at the start of the season. With 4 quality additions we could still get 4th given how poor Spurs are.

Good prediction. Thought 6th at best(miniscule chance at 4th if we had no injuries on PP, rest of the teams had a really bad season and a miracle). And that our starting 11 is no better than the likes of Leicester, West Ham, Wolves etc.

Think we will far behind when the window opens.

We need a goal scorer, my choice would be Haaland

Then we need pace on the right to stretch play, Sancho ideally but no idea who as alternative

Definitely need to add a central midfielder as controller, not sure Neves is mobile enough. Maybe Partey?

Reality bites though. I don’t expect to add anyone other than a cheap option like Mandzukic who is surplus to requirements at Juve

Neves was a disappointment last season after an excellent one before that. He has not shone this season either if one forgets that belter against us. At his age you are supposed to show clear improvement every season. He has been standing still too much. Not convinced.
I would take Partey nxt summer if he wants to come. Good player. Right age for our squad.
And as a short term-solution I would speak to Juve about Matuidi in January (his contract is up nxt summer) and we would have a ready made solution in him and Pogba that might even save this season. Offer him a 18 months lucrative contract plus an option year, and who knows, Juves CL-hopes aside; he might jump on it in January already. And we could let Matic go to MLS or China in the same breath if he wants. He is leaving in the summer anyways.
Add a Longstaff to that next summer and we have at least started to restore our midfield.

Realistically all three of them will be next summer and difficult to sign given we've finished around 10th.

To play along though, let's say January

Thomas Partey
Erling Haaland
Hakim Ziyech

I know very little about football outside of England these days, but can't disagree on the positions.

Striker, right wing, midfield and I'll go for a left back as absolute minimum.

I'd like to get any 3 from this list:

Zakaria
Soumare
van de Beek
Bentancur
Tonali
Havertz
Dani Olmo
Chiesa
Chukwueze
Richarlison
Haaland
Lautaro Martinez

Lazy journalism most likely, with that being said, this is probably your best generation in a while, isn't it?
Yes, they are, but they are at least 2-3 years away from a potential united standard. Did not impress against Romania (!) much

Yes since around 2000 there has not been anything near this. That was when we had Flo, Carew, Ole, Johnsen, Berg etc :) Odegaard and Haaland propably the highest potential but there are a lot of talent among the youth nationals and Norway and England I think have some of the youngest National teams in Europe now. Looking good :)

After watching todays game we should be all over Doucoure he was an absolute menace to Spurs, I am not averse to bringing in Mandzukic and a decent creative midfielder because without Pogba the centre of midfield is devoid of any craft at all.

I think we'll be hoping to buy 2 in January. So perhaps the following 2 would be nice but probably not available -

1. David Zakaria - Swiss Defensive Midfielder/box to box Borrusia Monchengladbach

2. Samuel Chukwueze - Nigerian Right winger, Villareal, tipped as 'The New Robben'

Other potentials
- Dani Olmo - Dinamo Zagreb attacking midfielder/playmaker

- Jarrod Bowen - Hull City, right winger, only 6 months on contract.

Unlikely English clubs will sell the following in January
Sean Longstaff
Lewis Cook
John McGinn

A perfect January for me would look like this
Bale
James - Olmo - Rashford
McTominay - Zakaria

The January I'm expecting looks like this
Rashford
James - Pogba - Bowen
McTominay - Zakaria

Would be nice to get a left back like Digne or Grimaldo so we don't have to see Young again but I guess that is for next summer

so who is realistic, I have know idea and I am probably influenced by "flavor" of the month but press has said a lot about Tonali and Zakaria, one of either could perhaps be nice

Håland is looking very interesting and is Norwegian, wonder if that can help, otherwise press has been on about Mandzukic. Perhaps him on loan until summer is smart and than buy Håland once he is gone.

Than I would like a right winger or someone for AMC, we need both but depending on who is available in january. Eriksen would make sense with contract coming to an end. Dani Olmo has also been mentioned a lot.

Honestly if we only got 1 player in during Jan transfer window, and we know it's a notorioulsy hard time to recruit in, I'd take a creative midfielder.Easier said than done, but all this talk about bringing in a striker, any striker coming into this team will have difficulty, due to lack of chances created for them. I'd still want a striker but creative midfielder is a must. If we were able to get both in Jan then happy days, but a genuine creative midfielder would have a much greater impact in this team than just bringing in a striker would.

Considering how Berardi has started the season, he could be an option. If his injury problems are behind him, he could be a very good signing. Shouldn't be that difficult to get him in January either.

My 3 signings would be:

Christian Eriksen
Gareth Bale
Eric Dier

I also like Sancho, but i think he hardly would go to a team that doesn't play Champions League.
As fouth signing we need a centre forward, in that caso i'd go for Kasper Dolberg.
And we should get rid of Pogba who isn't faithful to this team.
So the lineup would be:

De Gea

Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Shaw

McTominay Dier Eriksen

Bale Dolberg Rashford

If you could make 3 realistic signings to improve our squad next summer who would you go for?

de Gea

Wan-Bissaka Maguire Lindelof Chilwell

McTominay Neves Pogba

Sancho Martial Rashford

Chilwell, Neves and Sancho are all gettable players for United, follow the new strategy we seem to be using and would be improvements on Shaw, Matic/Fred/Pereira & Lingard imo.

Yours?
Florentino Luis , Christian Eriksen , Jadon Sancho

3 players is not enough. We need 5-7 players before next season starts. While this is borderline muppetry, thinking that we will sign that number of players over the next 10 months, it is what the squad needs to be able to compete for anything other than a slight chance at fourth next season.

Mata, Lingard out, Ødegaard, Sancho, Haaland in.

Sancho/Greenwood Ødegaard/Pereira Rashford/James
Haaland/Martial

I've been impressed with Hwang and Minamito for Salzburg as well, so they could be alternatives to Sancho and Ødegaard.

We should go for 2 players this winter. Preferably 2 for following 2 positions: DM, CM, RE, CF

We need players for these four positions but that won’t happen in one transfer season. Therefore we should try to get 1-2 player for the above positions already this winter so we can build up slowly.

the winter season is difficult to acquire good players. So we should go for realistic targets and accept to pay a little more than the market price. Some realistic players we could/should acquire:

- Julian Weigl (DM)
- Sandro Tonalli (DM)
- David Zakaria (DM)
- Bruno Fernandez (AM)
- Christian Eriksen (AM)
- Samuel Chukwueze (RW)
- Krzysztof Piatek (CF)
- Timo Werner (CF)

It’ll be 3-4 maximum over the January and Summer windows. January will be ‘not a good time to buy’ and summer will be ‘right players weren’t available so have to wait’.

I think we’ll get Mandzukic because he’s cheap and it will mean won’t have to spend big on a striker for another 18 months (club will be hoping another year after that).

If Pogba goes I see us spending big on Maddison as we’ll pay whatever price they make up like did for Maguire. One more midfielder probably and that’s it.

You are right that we need a lot more players but we won’t commit a huge net spend and we won’t shop around for bargains who can be developed. So this time next year they’ll still be huge gaps in the team and we’ll hear the same excuses.

Yeah. Or the "not right mentality", fit or any other suitable excuse.

We actually need to sign 3 players in Jan to revive our season. My 3 picks for Jan will be...

1. Emre Can or Denis Zakaria (because we have been linked to him)
2. Sancho (unlikely, but we should try)
3. Mandzukic ( ideally, Erling Braut Håland)

I actually think David Neres would be a decent pick up.

Played well for Ajax in CL last year, can play centrally or wider in the front 3. This season seems to be on the bench lots so not sure what's up but Brazil still picking him in their squad.

Two more goals for Bowen today to win his team the game. He's now on 44 Championship goals since the start of the 17/18 season, more than any other player. The only players with numbers close to his are strikers, his goal record compared to other wingers is ludicrous.

His manager after the game: "Jarrod’s top class. In terms of goalscoring from a wide player, he’s top, top drawer. Anywhere he plays he’ll have an effect on the game. He delivers every weekend and, for me, he’s the best. He’s grounded. It’s not me over-hyping him, it’s there in black and white for everyone to see. We feel as if he’s getting better and better all the time. He’s the best in this league – honestly, he really is."

Still hasn't signed a new contract. If he doesn't renew in the next two months then I expect there will be several PL teams bidding for him in January. Hopefully we are one of them.

Given how good Jarrod Bowen (Hull City) has played the last 3 seasons (including the current one) it is a no brainer not to acquire his services already this winter. He is a left footed right winter, British, young, hungry and most importantly very talented. He has a short contract, expiring next summer though Hull City has a one year option in him. We should be able to get him and I believe it would be a very realistic signing for us

We could badly do with a DM, CM & striker in the January window, however can only see us signing one midfielder. Which do people think we need more out of a DM/CM?

Yeah Bowen in January could be awesome. Kalvin Phillips is another from The Championship heading for big things.
