Top 5 will be the first name in each of those lists.

Weirdly, Lloris is on the shortlist, but not France Football's shortlist for best goalkeeper. The ten man shortlist is: Alisson Becker, Manuel Neuer, Ederson, Andre Onana, Wojciech Szczesny, Jan Oblak, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Samir Handanovic, Hugo Lloris and Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Feet up at home.
Anyone else not really care? I am totally ambivalent to these types of awards. Fair enough to those who do care but it's so subjective and there have been plenty of head scratching winners. I'd rather trouser the competition winner medals and a fat pay check if I could be an elite footballer. Great footballers will always be regarded as such over their careers who cares if someone rates you better or worse than someone else over a year. World cups and the such mean far more to me.

Has Wijnaldum really been that good to deserve a nomination?

Quite a few I think are surprising in that shortlist: Lloris, Wijnaldum, Tadic, van de Beek and Benzema.

Think Laporte should be in there for sure.

Doesn’t mean he’s one of the very best in the world though. He isn’t.
I agree that he hasn't shown that over the last season in the league, but on ability I think he's up there. Less strange a decision than some others IMV.

United wins the treble in 1999: Seven players nominated.
United wins the league and CL in 2009: Four players nominated.
Liverpool wins the CL and nothing else (including getting eliminated at the first hurdles in both domestic cups): Seven players nominated.

Right.

:lol::lol:

Back to the topic I think Messi will win it now.

So many names don't deserve to be here but they seem to be just filling the list by any names they thought of.
Seeing how atrocious Barca were when he was injured should help his case

We fought. You lost.
Well it was good for a couple of minutes.

on a more serious side, why is Marquinhos nominated? Copa America? Tadic for his CL form? Mahrez who doesn’t even start f or City?
Should just put up a short list of 10 players

Is Ziyech not shortlisted? That just doesn't make sense as he clearly was our best player last season and there are 4 of his (former) team mates on the list

A list without Lukas Podolski is an incomplete list.

Messi will win (cause it's not only about football at this kind of "elections") - VVD deserves it though.

No, Liverpool defense has been worse this season and in CL their defense was far from great. Messi meant more to his team than VVD meant to his. Hell, even Mane said Messi deserves it over VVD

Another Messi-fanboy...

It's not worth to argue about a "trophy" like the ballon d'or but if it had been only about football Messi and Ronaldo had both 2 less and Sneijder, Ribery, Iniesta and Neuer had 1 each!
