Only watched highlights, but great to get the win. And what a strike from Rashford

I would love to see Pogba ahead of Fred and McT. Free him to play at 10 with Martial, Rashford and James ahead of him
That would frankly be terrible IMO. He’ll be playing the Fred role alongside McTominay as he’s terrible at pressing which is crucial for our 10.

He's not terrible at pressing, he was getting man marked and we could not stop losing the ball and not getting it back. Now if Fred and Scott can handle that part even when Pogba lose the ball, Pogba will find some moments of brilliance. Also, Martial doing the hold up play well is going to help tremendously in that regard. I think that could work again.

I meant Pogba is terrible at pressing compared to Pereira or Lingard.

As much as I enjoyed that amazing free kick, I enjoyed Martial's reaction even more. He actually stopped, looked back at Rashford, and his entire body language said, "WTF did I just see?" Seriously, watch it again and just watch Tony.

He was being doubled up on by Reece James and Hudson Adoi who are very lively players; even experienced players would of struggled in that situation, yet he still held his own! Give him a break!
I was replying to the overreaction. By saying "i didn't think he was that good" it was referred to the OP's talk about how great he was and that he should be our starting LB over Shaw and Young. I thought he had a decent game, but not great. Like I said, he seems to back up too much when being dribbled at 1 v 1 (not talking about double teams). At some point you have to pressure your winger and not back up all the way into the 18...

When was the last time we won at Stamford Bridge twice in a row?
February 1998 apparently, that was game where Phil Neville scored and some bookie stupidly paid out on us winning the league.

We beat them in the FA Cup 5-3 the previous month when they were holders. Think we were 5-0 up in that game at one point.

I don't think it's that big a deal. Our pressing regardless isn't effective like Pep's or Klopp's pressing is. It's not coordinated enough for it to be a concern on an individual basis.

Rashford is my 2nd MotM. But he needs to work on his Pk, if he'll be the dedicated taker. It wasn't a good one.

Romero - not much to do
AWB - solid. Seems to be developing a nice connection with James.

Lindelof - one of his weaker performances

Maguire - lost the challenge to Batshyuai on the goal. Didn’t recognize that Rojo was out of position soon enough.

Rojo - he makes a mistake every match that usually results in a goal. All he had to do was slow down Batshyuai, but he took a poor angle, and couldn’t close in time. Every time I see him on the team sheet, a part of me dies.

Williams - we are all excited by his potential. He did give the ball away too much with bad passes and poor touches (which looks to be uncharacteristic, fortunately). But he really improved in the second half. He has an innate ability to sense danger and get in perfect position to be a nuisance to the opposition. He had a few saving tackles and interceptions.

Fred - the reason I wanted to go player by player. This is the ONLY match I have seen him play where he did not needlessly and frivolously give away possession with a loose touch or off target pass. That’s a total of 35 appearances, mind you. But he was also quick to contest and was generally a good destroyer in midfield and protecting the back three. Given the at times abysmal performances, I would be so happy to see him come good. His performances have been getting better and better. I’m really hoping he has turned a corner.

McTominay - maybe our most consistent player. He gets himself in threatening positions, he just needs to finish with more confidence and get the ball on frame.

Lingard - not good enough. He’s a perfect example of why we are mid table.

James - A contributor. He wants to win and works hard.

Rashford - maybe I was harsh when I called him Danny Welbeck 2.0. On his greatest day, Welbeck could never hit a free kick like that. Furthermore, if you just watch Rashford highlights, Welbeck could never do half the things that Rashford can. But Rashford will probably never score 25 goals in a season. God, I hope he does, but he needs to be part of a front 2 or 3 and have world class midfielders giving him service. We just don’t have those types of players right now. What a goal.

As we have known all year, when we are allowed to sit back and counter attack, we can do quite well. We seem to be getting better at timing and executing the high press, though it’s still not good enough to employ successfully against Man City or Barca.

That Chelsea side is actually pretty good, and we were a bit lucky that Rashford hit that free kick. A draw followed by penalties would have been a fair result.

Tactically Ole got it spot on for me. A much better team first half and although Chelsea took the game to us for the first 15-20 of the 2nd, Ole changed it and it turned around again.
I didn't watch the match but this sounds so impossible. According to the caf he's tactically total inept ;)

I'm so old I remember the times when beating them was routine, AND when getting beaten by them was routine.
You have to go back to the early 60s when beating Chelsea was routine, but the fact is that Chelsea were always something of a bogey-team for us. No matter how poor they were, they always did well against us.

Before Mourinho - ( t Think I counted it correctly) - out record under Ferguson was 17 wins, 9 Draws and 10 defeats. And considering how good we were, and how poor Chelsea were for most of that time - that was a much worse record than we had against other clubs.

Do I get a cookie for predicting the correct scoreline?

Also well done rashford and mctominay. Good performance all round. Only negatives was the maguire moment and Rojo's clearances all game.
You do mate - well done! But you have to share it with me too

Rashford at the age of 22 has 52 goals - Welbeck who turns 29 next month - has scored a total of 70 goals in his career. So comparing the 2 might be a bit harsh on Rashford.

It's strange how he gets it tactically spot on against Leicester, Chelsea and Liverpool - clubs with 3 of the most praised managers in the League - and he still is a fool, incompetent and a clown.

Was a good performance. I felt confident from the start, as i knew they would attack and leave gaps.

Rashford and McTominay stood out, though AWB, Maguire and Williams did really well too.

I just want to extend a 1 finger salute to the 50% of the so-called "supporters" that picked us to lose. These are the same doom and gloom idiots that constantly moan and put down our manager and players.

"You are out of your depth". Go support Liverpool or whatever team is the flavour of the month these days.

Guys you do know we played Chelsea's reserve side?
They still started with Jorginho and Kovacic;decent midfield. Batshuayi is a good forward, their back line was very experienced. It was good enough to beat us but they didn't

Hahahaha hahahaha gotta love this type of bravado after beating Chelsea's second string team in the fecking League cup! How standards have fallen!

Take that win though, I'm hoping for an easy draw so we don't need to have first team mainstays (Rashford, Maguire) picking up knocks in a pointless midweek cup game.

He's terrible every time he plays deep though.

Pogba in this formation can only play the 10 role for his creativity. He is a liability defensively in a 2, he doesn't have the work rate, the decision making, the defensive mindset required, he'd just drift forward and leave massive gaps.

It’s a bit harsh isn’t it.

it’s a prediction game, we have a terrible record at the bridge. If your going to back us every game then you’ll end up like Mark Lawrenson

I mean, you're not proving him wrong are you? As you - a supposed United supporter - gloat about it being a lucky win against poor opponents so you can happily go on hating your own team.

Unbelievable result, superb performance. Nothing like Ole/Rashford ramming all their haters shit back down their throats, get in lads!

McTominay this bloke needs to be our next captain, absolutely heroic last night, love the man!

Williams, found a gem, once Young probably goes in the summer, Shaw should be his back up, this lad looks superb and will only get better.

Buzzing, Rash that free kick my god! Rolling on into Saturday, World Cup Final then Bournemouth away, that will do!

Chelsea made 6 changes to their starting team from their last Premier league game compared to 4 changes for United. Let's not exaggerate or downplay what was a fine win in Stamford bridge against the odds.

It felt watching the Liverpool match that it might be this team turning a corner. 3 away wins later and the signs are encouraging, but obviously we have a long way to go still. At least we continue to see further signs of the type of team that the staff want us to be. The team look hungry and happy to play together. McTominay might just be on the road to becoming a complete central midfielder.

Only 6 pages after a good away win at the Bridge though? This thread would have been 15 had we lost, with the Ole haters sharpening the knives and vomiting their toxicity all over the forum. Many of them cant bring themselves to congratulate the team on a good win.

Well Rashford ... "if at first you don't succeed"

What a great team performance though on a difficult away day in any circumstance. Like I've said before I see us going through many ups and downs over the course of this season in results and performances and this is one of the ups. Hope there's more to come.

Beginning to look like Ole might have a 'plan' after all. We are still bereft in mid-field, except for McTominay, the lads growing as a player almost every game.
