Putting Rashford's before Ronaldo's is wring imo. Rashford's has a fair bit of distance to get it under the bar. Ronaldo's defies physics.

Not really top 10 but Rashford's vs Celta Vigo was very good.

I mean, I know we've mostly forgotten that he played for us, but Owen Hargreaves did do precisely one memorable thing as a United player:

Its aesthetic quality only becomes apparent in the replays, but the way it lands exactly in the bottom corner of the net is pretty unique.
Fantastic shout! This one is one of my favourites.

Hargreaves said in the press conference after the goal that Ronaldo told him "Let me take it, you're not going to score" and then he did that.

I might be imagining this but didn't Ronaldo once score one from the car park against Sporting Lisbon as well?
Car park:lol:

It was Porto and in open play;)

My favourite Ronaldo goal though, the power and distance was just ridiculous.

I always loved Beckham's against Everton in 2003. (?) Seem to remember this won you the title, or at least all but confirmed it? The way he sends everybody, including the camera guy, in the completely opposite direction is stunning.

This is the one I was about to post. The one against Aston Villa is similar in terms of where it ends up in the net, but like you say, the way he fools so many people is stunning. A certainty in a top ten list for me.

Great thread.

Would still have Ronaldo's against Portsmouth at number one. Not as enamoured with his Arsenal CL effort as the keeper doesn't cover himself in glory.

Yeah, that's my favourite from Beckham. The accuracy is impeccable and it's accentuated by the camera angle.

He had a beauty in the Charity Shield against Arsenal I think which cracked the bar and bounced just over the line, but it might have been Yorke that was credited with it in the follow up.

Tough to separate. Becks's are more of a classic arc/curl so don't look as mad. Ronaldo's v Blackburn is a personal favourite of mine. Rashford's is up there though, for sure.

The Irwin one against Palace at Villa Park was deflected. Took me years to spot it as it was one of my favs ever. Still think his one at Anfield is superb

I thought Ronaldos indirect free kick against Villa was a tough one to score, inside the box plenty of bodies around and just nailed it in. Was an important goal to score as well as it helped us on the way to the 3peat.

Ronaldo against Portsmouth just defies physics. Its my favorite.

It tougher to get that elevation and dip when you're that close. Last nights was sensational, the distance helped.

I was also going to link to Pallister's free kick against Blackburn in 93. We were pretty much celebrating the title and he took it because he was the only player who hadn't scored all season and just... scored. Such a great moment.

The youtube link is a bit crap though and it is nothing special as a FK.

I was going to mention this one, but people forget about the Giggs free kick in this game, right in the top corner from some distance out as well. Never saw Giggs score a better free kick that than to be honest.

Hargreaves against Arsenal is under rated.
Giggs one against Lille stands out as well for cleverness.
RVPs vs City. Dont care if it took a deflection with the joy that it brought.

Rashfords last night was insanely good but personally I dont think any thing can top Ronaldos vs Portsmouth. That free kick alone inspires Rashfords efforts (not to mention quite a few free kick takers over the years).

Porto was a shot in open play not a freekick
Bizarrely my first instinct for this thread was the free kick v Porto! So it's amazing that it wasn't actually a free kick.

Watching it back, Its even the other end to the one I thought it was in.
And like you say, not actually a free kick!

I still prefer Ronaldo ones by far. The keeper can't even react, and the ball just went in. Its simply too fast for any keeper to react. It defies physics.

Rashford one looks great too, the trajectory of the ball looks very good, but the keeper could still make an effort trying to save it, that's the difference for me anyway.

The best bit about the Ronaldo one against Arsenal was the crowd reaction. You can hear the hearts breaking, as they go from booing to deathly silence, like Ralph in the Simpsons finding out the Valentines card was a sympathy card

I still think the Ronaldo Portsmouth goal should be number 1. At the time the knuckle ball technique didn't even exist.

Rashford openly admitted the ball creates a lot of movement, that League cup Mitre ball is liked by the professionals for freekicks.

This

Ronaldo's is straight on, un-saveable. While i have seen keepers saved top corner stuffs like Rashford's.

I love this freekick. The way Tyler just said "it's Hargreaves" right before he hit it, in a resigned way like he knew it was going in.

Brilliant freekick.

Some absolute crackers. The Ronaldo free kick is definitely a favorite, mainly because that ball doesn't seem to slow down which makes it almost impossible to save coupled with the fact that Almunia is not expecting that.

I always believed this was one of Beckham's best free kicks. What a way to salvage our first point of the treble season too.

Brilliant free kick. This is one of those, where I feel if he goes top corner the keeper saves it. It's almost like he knew he had to go bottom corner for any chance of it going in.
