Hopefully we use the January window wisely and sign a couple of relibale and good quality back ups, which is easier said than done. It'll probably be very hard to improve the starting XI in January because clubs usually don't want to let their best players go, signing players who improve our squad depth would do wonders for us moving forward.
We are one injury away from the wheels coming off. It throws a spanner in the works for the PL games and then has a knock on effect mid week with rotation becoming impossible.

The January window will be tough, we can only really look at players at teams we could bully, it's not as easy as it used to be.

I think McNeil at Burnley would be an interesting option to cover Rashford.

James, Rashford and Martial is a light version of Sane, Firmino and Salah

But the Liverpool-players are 27, 28 and 27 years old - our players are 22, 22 and 23 - it will be really interesting to see where they are then

I have seen a fair bit of Championship-football this season - and I think the next Dan James will be Jarrod Bowen. He has been exceptional for Hull, and if we can't find anyone better in january, I wouldn't mind if we offered Hull £15 million for him. 45 goals in his last 111 matches for a highly mediocre side, and he has been a stand out player every time I have seen Hull play.

No, James is our most important player.

Rashford and Martial are still not consistent enough, sure again garbage teams they look like they 'could' be, but when it matters most, they let the team down. They are no different now to when LVG played them, the difference now is we have proper winger in James, so if we get world class strikers, then the service is there, and will not be wasted as much.

Still annoyed that after he debuted and started so well for us, LVG just brought Rooney back into the team up top and pushed Martial out wide.

Rashford is also a better player thanks to Martial. Their link up is so good.

I had a look at him awhile ago, couldn't get a measure of his stengths. What are they?

I think for the price, he's a free agent in the summer? He'd be a decent punt in January. We shouldnt be scared as a club of having a higher turn over of players. If he fails in 6 months, we can move him on for a similiar fee. The worst we get out of it is a player for the cup games and giving James some needed rest.

I also got laughed out the door when I suggested his movement wasn't 'non-existent' as some posters liked to say. I even posted videos of him making runs in behind and scoring multiple times but was told I wouldn't be taken seriously. Yesterday he once again demonstrated how intelligent he can be with his movement.

I can't work out why, but certain fans just seem to have a weird agenda against him.
Watch the next game when in the first 20 minutes he hasn't scored or assisted, you'd see the usual nonsense written about him in the matchday thread. "he doesn't influence the game", "He's anonymous" , "Same old lazy Martial' and all plenty more.

By now I just figured some people have an agenda against him and I have made my peace with that.

Maybe.. the thing is that Rashford is getting those chances because Martial is playing. If Rashford would play in Martial his position Martial wouldnt be getting those chances.

The goal Rashford scored was because Martial looked up and passed to Rashford. If Rashford would have been in that position he wouldnt have looked up and would have tried to score himself i think.
Almost guaranteed Rashford would have gone for glory himself. Martial is a class act, just hope everyone doesn't scapegoat him next time we draw or lose! As most of the Caf just seem to have selective memory for when it suits the agenda.

I think it was Haram, he is banned now.

Some of the criticism was weird, his movement is far better as CF than as LW though, maybe it wasn't his fault as he wasn't left winger and was moved out of position. As a CF his movement is good, his hold up play is miles better than Rashford and Lukaku and apart from all this, he is a playmaker.
This is something a lot of posters around these board have failed to understand. When they come up with narratives about his poor movements they always fail to take into account that Martial is a natural CF and his movements are more suited for that role. On the left wing or even as an inside forward, his movements would look poor because that's not his natural game.

One of the many reasons why Rashford is suited on that left forward role is because he has the movements to play in behind the defenders and make those runs. Martial isn't that type of players who would always surge into space and exploit that gap in behind the same way Rashford would. Martial movements are more suited for modern CF plays because he likes ball to his feet and that role allows him to come short, collect the ball or run in behind into space when he's playing centrally. You're not going to see those same runs behind the defenders from martial when he plays on the wing.

Of course he is. A striker that can lead the line and bring everyone around him into play takes the whole team to a new level.

Firmino is the best in the world at this i think, Benzema made a career of it at Madrid. When you have wide men and advanced midfielders that carry goal threats, this type of striker is necessary.

Glad to see Tony doing, i think he is a world class talent. Let's hope this time we have a manager that will allow him to make that position his and develop.

Bit rich to claim they aren't consistent and haven't delivered when it matters and James has. For me, they're still both much more important than James. As is Pogba. The Welsh kid is doing well but some are going overboard. They're still more likely to be top players than him. You appear to suggest that James is a 'proper winger' and Rashford/Martial don't meet his standard which is complete rubbish.

Indeed, he went for glory on a even tighter angle after that sick flip flap.

What a catchy head title. We may try to figure it out only when he plays at least the whole one season on the same high quality level. Until then we can only claim he proved his instability and inconsistency as a striker.

your always right on the money. Martial isn’t a vardy/aubamayeng who will consistently run in behind or a firmino who loves to play in midfield although he’s a striker but a combination of both. He’s a modern day CF similar to benzema. They can do pretty much everything and have the intelligence/decision making to excel in the role.
The only issue I’ve really had with martial is his determination to excel over the years. When things aren’t going his way he never wanted to force the issue but rather let the game pass him by. It didn’t help that he had a manager like mourinho but things are changing with Ole.

The criticism of his movement was kind of understandable when he played on the left. He prefers for the ball to be passed to his feet and not to the space in front of him, which is what you’d want from a winger. As a striker he can hold on to those balls and to involve others in, like he did so brilliantly lately. Although even his off the ball movement in behind have seemed to improve.

edit: basically what @Santoryo said

Martial requires players to run off him and he can make a huge impact on the play when that happens. This is exactly why I would like for Pogba to play in a more advanced position controlling the play. We need every ball to go through Pogba and then he will boss the play every time and choose the right passes. If he's man-marked, Fred or Mctominay should play the forward pass to Martial who can lay it off to Pogba, Rashford or James and make a forward run. This will work wonders for us and every player in that midfield and the forward line will have at least one chance to shoot at goal. This way we can keep possession and try as many times to get a clear shot at goal and also play those small one-touch passes between our wonder players upfront. I can see us build something here but Pogba has to be a great part of it along with the front line.

He's been class in every appearance bar his initial return from injury. Based on this season, the thread title is perfectly accurate.

Most of the criticism on many players are just posts without much thought behind the posts. Just post random nonsense in every thread and then run away.

His mentality, commitment, quality was questioned when he was benched even though he was playing well and then worship the player who didn't want to fight for his place and fecked off as soon as he wasn't guaranteed starter, not to mention the shit performance week in week out.

Anyways at least now he has manager who completely trusts him and plays him in his best position. Hopefully he will keep improving and scores more goals.

When Martial first came in he had a very good season for such a young player joining a new league. His second and third season he was little better than average. He may of been unfairly treated with his game time or in the position he was played but that was no excuse for some of his performances and showing so little interest in wearing a United shirt. This season he has started very well and is showing us what he is capable of. He has the potential to reach the top and the only thing holding him back is himself.

One thing he has lacked is consistency which we even seen yesterday. The first half he was dogshite but in the second he really upped his game and was pivotal in us playing the best we've played in a long time. Once he starts showing consistency on a regular basis then yeah, I would say he's our most important player but until then at least with me the jury is still out.

He could have passed it to Lingard... i would be more impressed by him if he can make Lingard score instead of scoring himself.
Yeah. I'm not worried, I think and hope he will iron this out with time and experience.
I also hope they are doing everything to keep him grounded and on the team's gain above else

Rashford is getting those chances because he sprints at 100 mph to be an option for the player in possession. Obviously Martial did very well to pick him but player's movement, desire to be in that position by sprinting should count for something.

James cross which was headed away with Martial ahead of CB, Rashford behind CB, Rashford started his run from our own box. The left foot shot he was next to De Gea when GK caught the ball and then started the move. The open missed goal, when the move started, he was at the edge of the box, defending.

Rashford's work rate, his desire to get at end of things is one of the reason he is getting those chances, helped by Martial and James who are very good players. As a trio they are playing really well, linking up.

Sorry. Still getting used to this quoting thingymagigy:)
First half he wasn't dog shit and no player will be consistently good for all 90 mins. His second half was far better than first but first half he wasn't shit.
Martial has not showed up at all today
Both him and Martial have been out of the game so far tbh.
Expect more from both him and Martial.
John Moss giving them yellow cards for fun. Think James alone has accounted for two Brighton players getting booked.

Martial not at the races today.
Should bring on Martial for the second half
Martial in particular needs to wake the feck up. Besides the assist he has barely touched the ball, and when he has done he has lost it
Comfortable half. Fred and McTominay our best players. Pereira a bit shit as always but "got" the goal. Martial not really involved but has an assist. Rashford lively. Back 4 not really troubled but Williams has done well. Nothing for De gea to do.
Ofcourse people are complaining about Martial again but what is Martial supposed to do?

He hardly gets the ball.. a number 9 needs a team to help him play well but he isnt getting any help.
Cannot disagree except for i would have martial as 6 and rashford as 7. Martial has barely touched the ball and jogged around for 45 mins. Rashford is getting in space and has had a few chances.
If we bring Martial on for the second half we could score a couple more today.
Martial is a proper 9 now, which means at times we won't see him much :D As long as we're in control, I think he can be in "cruise mode"
Martial not been making intelligent runs so consequently getting crowded out. When playing with pacy wide players the no. 9 needs to hang back and run on to balls as defenders track back. There are goals for him this game if we continue play with the same tempo sec half.
We'd benefit a lot from a proper striker. Martial is only adequate there in truth.
Pretty decent half, though I felt we dropped back after the second.

James was good, Fred and McT playing very well. Martial needs to get involved more. I hope he scores a couple, he’s in my fantasy team ffs.

Defence has looked comfortable, especially Maguire. But we look vulnerable at set pieces.
This is a typical Martial performance really, I'm not sure what people are expecting. Is this a case once again of a player being out injured and people forgetting what he's actually like.
Martial needs to show for the ball. They can’t feed him when he hides behind defenders and if they play a ball for him to run onto, he’ll just stand and stare at it. We know what he can do but he’s not arsed today.

Most of the team look motivated enough, albeit against poor opposition but it’s looking a bit better. Passing could do with sharpening up a bit.
More from Rash & Martial and we'd be even better off.
First half he wasn't dog shit and no player will be consistently good for all 90 mins. His second half was far better than first but first half he wasn't shit.

Wow you came with all the receipts. Still not sure what the message is though. I’m guessing most of those comments came at halftime because I refuse to believe they were made after the game. In general though people have to be more patient in their assessment.

Is this another fact that shows Mourinho is half the coach he used to be? Mou played Rashford as CF and Martial as LW more times than the other way around. I'm also pretty sure Mou made statements that Martial is not a CF. Ole saw something else and he has proven to be right.

It is worse than that. Mourinho flat out disrupted him and then benched him for Sanchez

Not sure how that proves anything, but whatever.
It proves I wasn't the only one who thought he didn't have a good first half

Mine wasn't so bad, was it ;) ?
I actually thought you nailed it with his cruise mode first half description . Different player in the second though.

Definitely half time comments. Anyone that writes that at full time deserves to be shot down. My message was quite simple. I said in a previous post that until Martial shows more consistency in his game then for me the jury is still out on whether he's our most important player and I used yesterdays game as an example. Didn't look that interested the first half but had a stormer of a second which more or less has been his MO for the last couple of seasons. Once he finds consistency then I can say that he is our most important player which I have seen signs of this season but still not enough to make me forget previous campaigns.

As a striker, he has to be like this, he cannot be running around all the time. A good focal point he's become now

Matchday threads are generally an embarrassment.

I'd love to get some of the worst offenders and put them in a 5-a-side match, then stand pitch side re-quoting the absolute drivel they spew on here.

No one said he had good first half. There is difference in saying he didn’t have good half and he was dog shit. Don’t have to pick extremes to make your point.

What was wrong with my quotes @Forevergiggs1? Expecting more from two of our best players is a good thing. My comments was at halftime and I'm a big fan of Rash.

Games Martial started: 5 wins 1 draw 1 loss, 16 goals scored in 7 games.

Games Martial didn't start: 3 wins 5 draws 2 losses, 8 goals in 10 games.

Daniel James played most of those games without Martial.
