I have a feeling Jan transfer window will come and go with no improvements or players brought in, and we will be met with the usual 'too hard to sign anyone in Jan' or 'No value in the market at this time' followed by 'we will continue to look to improve our squad in the summer'

Yup same here.

Thing is, you could argue for that being the correct approach if we were sitting in or around the top four, with a largely well-formed team in need of only minor tweaks.

Our squad is so full of holes though that there's a world of easily available players who would improve us. Players in second-tier leagues. Players in second divisions of top-tier leagues. Players who's contracts are expiring. Players who have low buyouts - there are so many options that it'll ring even less true than before.

Let's hope we've more sense than to peddle the no value nonsense again this year.

You'd be surprised how many people believe in Brexit FC.
It's what I was thinking to myself: if that was an indication of the state of the media or more indicative of the clientele they are catering to.

Chelsea, should be all over Sancho come summer time if he is still there. Big Chelsea fan, homegrown. Sitting on a stack of cash from sales, without what Roman will pump in himself if needed
If Roman is willing to spend the amount it would take I think he'll end up at Chelsea tbh.

We would be stupid to sign Richarlison as Everton will want 80m to 100m for him. Rather for 80 odd million we should try for Havertz and 60m for Haaland plus get an agreement with Cavani as he will be a free agent. If we sign these two and change our manager and sign Marco Rose with a proper DOF. I can see us being top 4.

Then in the summer we can try for Sancho/Ziyech and a CM. So in around 300m we will have a squad good enough to compete in Epl and Cpl. It just need somebody who is smart enough to make these signings.

Front 6 would be
Pogba/Mctominary new Cm
Ziyech/Sancho Pogba/Havertz Martial/Rashford
Haaland/Cavani

I swear to god if we sell him for a pittance after he's done so well there.
Sounds like we're putting our foot down on the price, hence them saying they won't be paying 'exorbitant amount.' Just have to hope we stay firm and sell him elsewhere if needed.

Ship Matic out. Bringing another midfielder in January who actually can contribute and not be a liability, that will be another step in right direction.

Unfortunately our depth in midfield is quite wank so I think Ole will want to get a replacement before selling him. Matic will probably play against Sheffield if McTominay can't make it.

This was also true of our attack in the summer, and yet Lukaku and Sanchez still left without replacement.

You can't really assume common sense when it comes to United.

Lukaku I give you but there wasn't any point of buying a replacement for Sanchez when we already had Dan James.

I thought the argument was that Sanchez could have operated as a centre forward option whereas James was a wildcard winger.

Really chuffed it worked out for James, mind. Hes done more before Xmas than Sanchez since arriving to United.

The impact of Sanchez was so minimal at United that I think if even if we hadn't signed anyone then it'd have been a good "replacement". James is just a very surprising bonus.

Yeah it was minimal, but he also was barely given a string of games to play into form under Ole and was riddled with injuries on top.

Was obviously the right decision to let him go given he's gone to Inter and got injured again. I do wish we brought in a target man to help Rashford earlier in the season though. Mandzukic would have been fine..

Ah come on VP. Sanchez had more than enough opportunities at United. Almost 2,000 minutes and only 3 goals in the PL for us. Was clear he needed to go. He offered us nothing, just an empty shell jogging about.

He played in a lot of dud games and I don't think he was really able to play his way into form, granted a fair bit due to injuries too.

I don't have stats to bring, but I recall him playing one game, not featuring the next. Then coming off the bench at 65 mins here and there. Starting Carling Cup games and then being dropped in league games, etc. Under Ole I would love to know how many games he was able to start back to back.

I hope we can manage to get at least one midfielder in January. We are very thin in this area, and if we are to have any chance of winning Europa league we need to strengthen midfield and up front.
It's hard to get players in January, but I'm hoping our scouts have done their jobs.
