Never really convinced me he's the real deal has Chong. Think he knows his career is best off at another club.

To be fair if Chong has turned down a new deal and wants to walk for free, he is the one youngster currently on the scene that I don't think is good enough.

Would be far more alarmed if it was Williams/Tuanzebe/Garner/Gomes/Greenwood etc.
Garner, Greenwood and Williams have all signed contracts this year, Tuanzebe signed one in July I think, Gomes still hasn't but there's little information from his camp compared to Chong's.

I am ain't bothered much either. He could turn into something but as it stands he hasn't shown anything special in the first Team.

Yeah I know that mate, was just using them as examples that if we are to lose one youngster, Chong would be my choice

Oh, my apologies.

Seems the news earlier was premature. I'll post Chong's quotes below.

I keep all options open. But it is important to keep my focus on the season. I will see where it goes.
Yes, they offered it (a new deal), but at the moment the season is also in full swing.
Meanwhile, Chong has told Voetbal International that he’ll “Discuss with my family what is best”.

I expect Chong and Gomes to both leave at end of the season. Even with the lack of attacking options we have at our disposal neither are getting much of a look in.

From their perspective leaving and getting a chance of regular football probably makes more sense than being sent on loan.

Not really that fussed if he has declined a new contract with ourselves. Hasn’t really impressed when he has played in the 1st team. Good luck to him but can’t say he will be a massive loss.

I hope we sort out Angel Gomes’ contract soon. He’s one that I will be very disappointed if we lose.

He hasn’t been overly impressive but he’s still very young and has plenty of time to nurture his game. I’d prefer we didn’t just give up on kids when there is something there.

Loan out would be the best option.

What's there though? I agree we should loan him but doubt there's much to come from Chong. Looks really limited.

That's incredibly unfair, he's looked raw and nervous but if you've watched him in the U23s and academy then he isn't limited. He'll need to adjust his game to the reduction in time and space he'll get in the prem but that's why he needs a loan move or two before he's ready for first team action.

Classic, player decides to not renew, everyone then says he wasn't very good anyway. Good or not, no crystal ball aside from young talent not being played as it would seem promised or careers being nurtured. These lass should be getting quality loan deals but they are playing in the crap U23 league. Gomes will be next, they end up in German football where they get chance to play.

You are correct some of the Kids like Chong, Larid and Gomez need to be sent out on loan. They should be signed up for on a new contract and sent out until they are ready or moved on if they don't make the required progress. Its very difficult for a kid to come into a team that lacks leaders.
Clearly it would seem Chong feels the same.

I agree that he’s underperformed but he’s done very well at youth level. Maybe he’s just not ready yet - he’s still only 18 (?).

Maybe he’s just not good enough, maybe he’ll blossom in a year or 2. Which is why I think a loan for 18 months is best.

Who cares! I would be more concerned about Gomes than Chong. He impressed me the least out of the current crop.

haven't seen him in u23's but the first team is where it's at and I haven't seen much depth to his game.

Gomes on the other hand despite not performing well -- I can see what he has to his game.

Also hasn't signed a new deal and his current one expires this summer

There's only one United!
Unfortunately he's not that good for PL football and he also needs to build his physique more.

He is going to be 20 years old in a few days. He is so in titled, if he wanted so much game time he should have never refused the loan.

Andreas 2 loans
Lingard 4 loans
Tim fosu-Mensah 2 loans
Tuanzebe 2 loans
Pogba long Juventus holiday:D

These kids just want to walk in to the team easy. Obviously Rashford and mctominay are the exception not the rule. Especially Rashford who won us games in his first 2 starts. Even legends live TC23 and Welbz had to go on loan:lol:

Cannot repeat this enough but Gomes has been injured for some time now. It seems every time he is not in the squad this narrative of him being ignored comes up but injured players don't get picked, I think the club really need to be more upfront about injury news. Chong admittedly is fit but honestly I would not pick him over James, Rashford or Greenwood and so it is less of a surprise.

Wasn't getting much of a look in when fit

If we sent Chong on loan at the beginning of the season he would just be in the same position that he is in right now. It takes time adjusting to first team football, atleast now we have control over his development, instead having him rotting away in a club where he gets declared not good enough after his first game. If we want Chong to stay, im sure he will stay, and there is a Astana game coming up where Chong should be set to start again, lets see if he have had some positive development from his last start.

If he wants to go elsewhere good luck to him. He's not been very good when he's had a chance for us. He can warm benches elsewhere or drop down a level and get the regular game time he needs.

I'm fairly sure we have an option with Gomes to extent the contract by one year. We'll certainly invoke that option.

Thought he looked great in the last Reserve game, showed a confidence, thrust and aggression we haven't seen in his first team appearances. Hopefully he gets more chances. But he's been poor for the first team, no question.

He is a bit older than the others but in fairness he lost a lot of time early on with us due to a serious knee injury.

So, been offered a deal, mulling it over. Not sure there's a problem. He's found it harder to impress when he's gotten minutes, but in fairness to him he's not featured in relatively balanced sides which is tricky for a winger. Hope he's been using the time in between to bulk up a bit, needs some muscle on those super thin legs.

Way too early to write him off as some seem to have done.

I know he’s injured but even when he was fit he wasn’t playing and if he was fit now he wouldn’t be ahead of any of Perreira, Mata or Lingard. Most likely he wouldn’t even be on the bench, same as Chong.

He's the one player that I don't mind leaving, didn't see any glimpse of greatness when he played against Rochdale and their 16 yo rb had him in his back pocket. Granted it was one game, I feel like that LW is not a hard one to fill.

Would prefer our other dutchman with the buy back fee to come back. Seems to have a bad mentality considering he hasn't played well at all for the first team yet now doesn't want a renewal.

Might play well for the reserves but without sounding harsh, would he actually hack it at Rochdale?

I like him. I think the physicality and speed in the PL is very demanding and no way is he ready for it right now. If he moves to Italy and improves there I think he'll become an insane player eventually. Think he is not far off from possibly doing very well in that league for the right team.
