After quarter of the season The guardian have proposed this side

-----------Schmichel-----------
TAA-Soyuncu-VVD-Robertson
-----Jorginho--------Maddison
---Lundstrum---------Sterling
------Mane-----Vardy---------

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/nov/15/premier-league-2019-20-team-of-the-season-so-far

whoscored's algorithm a little different

--------------Krul--------------
Pereira-Boly-Matip-Robertson
Mahrez-KDB--Ndidi-Maddison
------Vardy-----Abraham-----

https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/England-Premier-League

RE the centre backs and keeper: a GK that's overworked and making a number of save and CBs that are good at aerial duels, tackling and interceptions.

I'd go with

---------Ederson---------
TAA--Evans--VVD--Robertson
---------Fabinho---------
---Jorginho----Maddison---
Salah---Abraham---Mane

GK and CF were tough, went with Ederson for reasons and Abraham because he deserves the acknowledgement for a great start to the season

Considering their excellent defensive record, Sheffield United seem a bit overlooked.

It's hard not to have Vardy and Abraham in any side, which makes 4-3-3 redundant. Mane should be in it as should TAA & either Robertson or Chilwell. Fabinho's and De Bruyne with possibly Maddison in midfield?

AWB has been dominant in his position, Im very surprised he doesn' get a mention. Must be the lack of offensive points.

He has done well but objectively, TAA and Pereira have done better and yes offered a lot more going forward.

Soyuncu would be the absolute front runner in my personal POY list.

Soyuncu getting the hype as hes the new guy who replaced Maguire but Evans is the main guy at the back for them IMO. Van Dijk also hasn't been as good as last year, obviously the best in the league but not TOTS in my opinion. Anyway, mine would be (put Basham as CB as one of Sheffield Uniteds CB's deserves it, just not sure which one).

Henderson
TAA Evans Basham? Chilwell
Sterling Maddison Fabinho Mane
Vardy Abraham

Fabinho over Jorginho in the Guardian team. Haven't watched Sheffield enough to argue against Lundstram.

I admittedly haven’t paid much attention this year but isn’t Jorginho garbage? He was terrible against us. Honestly yet to see him play well. What did I miss?

I’m asking a question literally! What has he been like?
Personally I think Jorginho has been our best player. Should be our captain, with all the youngsters we’ve been playing he’s really stood out as a leader too.

He’d easily make my team of the season so far.

Interesting to see Lundstram doing so well, he was a pretty prominent player for England's youth teams but didn't make it and was released from Everton after several loans and dropped down to League Two. He's worked his way up the divisons with a team who are now above Everton, nice to see.

Funny really, utter garbage for the man who he went to the club with but he's been really good this season under Lampard. He's still fairly easy to nullify for the better sides but for the lesser ones with the extra movement he has around him this season he's looking the biz

YouTube his assist for Abraham v Watford (I think it was against them)

Garbage is overstating it; Sarri tried to impose an Italian style of play but did not account for the increased high pressing and man marking that could nullify a deep-lying playmaker. He also wasn't helped by having Ross Barkley in midfield, who might be the most clueless player off the ball in the PL.

Playing in a 4-2-3-1 has really unleashed Jorginho - teams are almost never willing to commit two midfielders to a high press as this is suicidal, so Jorginho and Kovacic have been able to play their way out of trouble with ease and break presses for fun. While Jorginho lacks a bit of horizontal mobility, within his zone he's also been top class defensively (though obviously he can be bullied against very physical opponents).

While it's definitely early, he merits consideration in the TotS to this point. As you rightly point out though, Chelsea have benefited from an easy schedule to date and there will be sterner tests to come. He did do very very well in the two matches against Liverpool and the two against Ajax though, to be fair.

A lot was made last season mocking Jorginho for not registering a single assist but there's also a good Youtube video from last year showing the amount of great chances he created that the useless lot in front of him failed to finish. He wasn't as bad as people made out last season although no denying he struggled.

Anyway, it's a bit too early for me to decide on a team, I've not seen enough of other sides yet to comment. I'd say from City only de Bruyne and Sterling are worth mentioning. Ederson has had some fantastic games but also a few uncharacteristic errors so I'd be surprised if there had not been a better keeper so far.

Here's the video (you'll probably want to mute it). Not every chance here is nailed on but he was unlucky to not register a single assist last year it has to be said. At the same time, he's often passing from deeper positions than he is this year - with the added security of a deep lying midfield partner, he's afforded the license to push further forward. He and Kovacic have developed a tremendous relationship, and it also has to be said that Kovacic has been revitalised by playing deeper as well.

Haven't watched much Chelsea but I did listen to a podcast and a well respected journalist that said Jorghino is running that Chelsea team, he is the heartbeat of their team.

I'm actually not entirely surprised by this, I do think he was poor last season but there were also a lot of mitigating circumstances, new league, new team and also the DLP position is just a really difficult one, especially in the prem. Despite that you could see that he looked technically good and had an eye to play between the lines. Personally, still think he lacks the defensive capability against a Pogba for example, but then thats equally the case for lots of players.

Knee jerkery at its finest from the Guardian in failing to pick De Bruyne who has more than twice as many assists than any player in the league. Can’t argue much with their team though.

Schmeichel
Trent - Evans - Van Dijk - Robertson
Jorginho - Fabinho
De Bruyne
Sterling - Vardy - Mane

Probably more recency bias, only 1 assist and 0 goals in his last 6 with City in 4th place.
