We've got Slovakia on head to head. We didn't need them to lose, just as long as they didn't win, which isn't a worry anymore.

Not sure how we've got to the stage of it being in our hands and only having to beat Hungary at home to qualify, but I'll take it!
Yeah, but I've watched so many Wales games where they're close to qualification, I assume we'll blow it.

It took me over 20 years to get over Bodins missed penalty

Edit - Just realised you're Croatian not Welsh! Congrats on qualifying.
That Bale goal against us was crucial. We needed to play ahainst Slovakia win or bust game. If we have won in Wales, we would have lost today. We are worst team in the world in "friendly" games.

Absolutely. There will be plenty of nerves watching it Tuesday. Even after qualifying 4 years ago we went straight back to normality by losing at home to Ireland to blow our World Cup chances!

That team could have had a good run in 94 if we'd made it. Was so painful at the time, and particularly for years afterwards when things went swiftly downhill.

Haha defensive sub. What a wank match, but feck it we qualified.
Away team in playing a little negatively shock.;)

Yeah second half hardly anything happened but Holland got what they need and in reality it was always an incredibly long shot for Northern Ireland to get 2nd. They've given it their best shot.

I dont get it, why didnt NI try to score? They needed to win..
They tried in the first half. Ultimately they don't have the quality. You have posters on here laughing at them playing Paddy McNair as an attacking midfielder. I'm not really sure why it's that hard to grasp. Without Memphis you guys seemed to be struggling to get clear shots at goal tonight.

fecked up scenes in Israel as a couple of their fans stormed the pitch, hit one of our players and then started running towards Lewandowski. Ref wanted to abandon the match by the looks of it but Glik and our NT coach told him to carry on (2 minutes left). It's pretty fecked up that they cannot even secure the match given that the match was under massive question marks due to recent bombings in Israel.

Poland wins 2-1 in the end and top their group.

Anyway happy to see Holland back at a major tournament. Got some decent players although obviously lack depth in many areas compared to their golden teams of late 90s and most of 2000s.

Still tournament will be better for their inclusion. I assume you wouldn't be in pot 1 so obvious group of death for whichever group you're in.

Yeah, were shite definitely. It's Koemans utter refusal to ever play real wingbacks. Blind is a decent llayer, but adds nothing as an attacking wingback. That goes quadruple for Joel Veltman who is an above average centre half, but doesnt have a clue what to do with a ball on the oppo's half.

NI though looked dangerous on the break, so I thought they's just go in kamikaze in the last 10 minutes.

Russia with an appalling defensive performance against Belgium. Against a defence that can't cope with good pace the Hazard brothers really make the difference, like in the first game and everything is so slow and off-balance when trying to close space around the edge of the box. The team positioning for the third Belgian goal was hilariously bad, like something from a school team.

Holland reminds me a bit of England in a way, needs an end to end game to really look good e.g. the Germany away game. Against low block defensive teams that's where you struggle to open up and create chances.

I imagine aswell as wanting to avoid the real big ones like France and Spain in the draw i'm not sure you'd want likes of Swiss or Sweden in the group either. Even Iceland if they make it.

Silly as it sounds on the caf, we're very dependant on Memphis. And to a lesser extend Wijnaldum. They usually force something eventually. We also have afew very exciting talent coming up in Stengs, Boadu (both AZ) and Mo Ihatteren who choose to represent Holland.

I remember the hysteria on here when the points table was showing Northern Ireland 12, Germany 9 and Holland 3 in June. Can't be arsed digging up those posts but how hard can it by apply some context? NI had played both the fodders home and away while Holland only had played two games with one being against Germany.

Pretty happy with how we have done in the group to be honest. Was always going to b tough but we have probably done as well as could be expected.

Me and a couple of mates had spent the previous year putting money away. We were going to have a month in America... :(

Yeah I'm not suggesting NI bottled it or should have done better, just that the lack of context made it seem like they were in a far greater position than they actually were. In the end the group panned out pretty much as expected.

It's weird that you're in the best position for the B-group teams because chances are you're going to face a C-group team in the play-offs.

Cillessen is awful at keeping pens out. Basically all Davis needed to do was hit the bloody target.

What did I say, @Ban ? Easy-peasy :wenger:

Slovakia are garbage, though. Made it so easy with their bus parking. I only watch them for Lobotka, and he had a quiet game due to Croatia dominating possession, but still came up with an assist. Plus, like everytime I see Celta vs Madrid, he dribbles past Modric and Modric ends up fouling him :D

Yeah, one more big tournament for us.
It was a tough game in the first but we had 3 or 4 chances. Once Vlašić scored it was over, we started playing our game which is devastating for the opponent. It was just a question how much we'll score. Credit to Slovakia manager who drew some conclusions from the 1st game and changed their approach but once we scored game completely changed.
Interesting fact is only 4 players from WC final started yesterday. Some new, young players emerged like Petković, Vlašić, Brekalo, Perić so I'm really looking forward to the summer. We can give anyone in the world a good game.

Neves dropped for Danilo, Mário Rui for Guerreiro and Paciencia for Andre Silva. Seeing Danilo, Pizzi and Bruno Fernandes play in a midfield together will be extremely weird.

Must win game since I don't think Serbia will drop points against Ukraine in Belgrade. Luxembourg are a lot better than what they used to be and they caused us plenty of problems in the first game so there's a lot of potential for a feck up here but at least we'll have loads of support. Should be like a home game.
