Shocked by how few people have included players like Charlton, Best, Law, Edwards, Stiles, Stepney, Viollet, Foulkes, Taylor etc.

You're shocked that more posters haven't picked footballers that you need to be at least 50-55 years old to have seen play? Jeez we now have adults on here who were born after Cantona and Schmeichel played ffs.

How many games did you see George Best or Sir Bobby play in then? George Best for example didn't play for a decent team after leaving Fulham in 77 and Sir Bobby left United in 73. I'm guessing by your username you were born in 78?

Didn’t know that being born when the players were playing was part of the deal. I guess we can do away with the ‘66 WC team when discussing all-time England teams too.

Admittedly some of the names I mentioned are on reputation and legend status as servants of the club, but Charlton, Best and Law aren’t obscure figures with no available footage.

That's the issue though isn't. Why pick a player based on reputation or five or six YouTube highlight reels when you've seen the likes of Rio, Irwin, Keane or whoever's play week in week out for years.

Yeah, I guess it may be different if the thread was about top players of all time. I still find it interesting that most players mentioned are Premier League era, but I take your point.

Last post for me today as I’m a newbie!

I guess for 18 year olds, Keane left when they were four. The stat that many 20 year olds were born after Barcelona 1999 is:(

Started doing this and halfway through realised I was picking the best rather than my favourites. Still a great team, obvious outliers are Carrick, Park and Solskjaer but those three are ones I've always appreciated more even if others were better.

The heading does say "your favourite".

It'd surely be more odd if younger people picked any of those!

The amount of people not including Cantona, who left a "mere" 22 years ago shows how time quickly moves on

Favourite team was the 93-94 one.

But individually, I'm cheating with 12, as I can't separate the front 3.

Schmeichel

G Nev Stam Ferdinand Evra
Beckham Keane Scholes Giggs
Ronaldo Cantona Van Nistelrooy

Rooney, Vidic, Robson, Pallister, Irwin, Cole, Yorke, bubbling just under.

Perhaps not an all-fave 11. But instead, a team teams would dread playing against.

Ole --- Keane --- Scholes --- Thornley
Cantona
RVP
Players who I liked or had a soft spot for, not just for their abilities.

Ole's on the right, because back when Beckham was chasing the celeb life and got dropped a few times, Ole was filling in for him and showed he could put in very good crosses.

Thornley because I've always felt it was a shame what happened to him. Had so much promise, and considering England's left sided midfield problem that persisted in the 90s and early 00s, he could have really staked a claim for himself in football if not for his injury.

Based purely on my favourite players not necessarily United's greatest ever although an argument can be made for a few of them.

Schmeichel

Iwin
Rio
Buchan
Albiston

Coppell
Robson
Daly
Hill
Cantona
Van Nistlerooy

Just a bit too young to really remember the Charlton, Best and Law era.

This will change in a day. So many others though! From the weird ones - Ando & Berbatov (especially now).

Not counting Charlton-Best-Law & Edwards/Byrne/Stiles/Paddy, as I learned about them completely the other way. Love them to bits though, can't watch enough of them.
Same, but I still have Best and Charlton in mine because I love them as players. I've watched a lot of old matches in recent years and they're so good to watch. I especially love watching Charlton play. If I had seen him live, or if I could find more footage of the team from that era, he'd probably replace Scholes as my favourite CM.

I don't think it should matter if you only saw them years after they finished playing as long as you've seen them play, which you have! :)

I wonder what the average Caf member's age is.

Based on certain threads, it should be close to ten. But seriously - what? Below thirty?

Quite a spread of ages, but I reckon the highest single cohort is 20-25.
Yeah, that sounds about right.

At least if we're talking about regular, active posters. We have a significant number of members who don't post much - and the average age there (non-active members) is probably higher. There's probably a difference (possibly quite significant) between different sub forums too, with regard to average age (of regular, active posters).

What about the front 3 of Ronaldhino, Ronaldo & Rivaldo ? That was just ridiculous. 2002 winning team was incredible.

Most of the team are from the 08 Double winning, because it's the most exciting football I have have ever seen.

Can't leave out my hero and of course with Becks supplying the crosses. RVP is the most complete striker to play for this club, unlucky to be on the bench.
Ando in his first 2 seasons really got me really excited. Nani is a select group of players that could conjure something out of nothing. Both aren't the best players but hey this is just a team of my favourite players.

This team would still win the league 8 times out of 10. Hopefully Martial and McT can get into the team in a few seasons' time
