Didn't realise EA somehow made the new Need for Speed game a loot box grindathon as well the fecking cnuts :lol:

Don't think this particular trend is going to last long - they've gone too far.
Activision made $3.4 billion from microtransactions in 2016. It's not going anywhere.

Nope, you're right. I guess we will have to be more careful regarding which studios to trust from here on. Luckily for me, can't stand multiplayer games, much prefer single player. Can only imagine how annoying it is for someone who really enjoys games like call of duty etc.

Struggling to remember the last good single player game I played. They just don’t invest in them anymore.

Migrate to Nintendo.
Funnily enough I said just that to my girlfriend earlier. I’m too busy with Uni to justify getting a switch but I’ll get one over the summer I think.

This year alone I've played Horizon, Yakuza 0, Persona 5, Nier Automata, South Park, Divinity 2, Wolfenstein 2. And sadly I don't have a switch to play Zelda or Mario.

Plenty of great single player games out there, I'd argue 2017 is one of the best in a very long time for them.

Probably Dark Souls 3 for me, but that's only semi-single player. Fallout 4 was sort-of wank. Might need a switch (pun intended).

EA are the good guys here. Accidentally, that is.

Battlefront 2 is currently one of the few games of its genre not to have microtransactions. Instead of setting a dangerous precedent for the industry, they went too far and have laid the problems of the loot box epidemic bare for all to see.

They are bringing the microtransactions back.

The good guys? That’s like saying Al Capone was one of the good guys because him getting caught exposed the criminal underground for the insidious enterprise that it was, if not prohibition itself.

Micro transactions are glorified slot machines targeted at children and teenagers. They’re immensely profitable because they prey on the same addictive tendencies that all gamers possess - the desire for that dopamine hit.

They’re not classified as gambling yet but HOPEFULLY governing bodies and/or mainstream policies will stomp it out sooner rather than later. Targeting vulnerable people for dollars is easy money but morally bankrupt to do.

This. People bemoaning the death of gaming are being selective as feck. There's also a thriving indie scene that has an easier time publishing games than ever.

Eat shit, EA...

Star Wars Battlefront II's Week One boxed sales in the UK were significantly lower than anticipated.

UK retailers told GamesIndustry.biz last month that the new Star Wars game will sell more than Battlefield 1.

However, first week sales are more than 50% down compared with last year's shooter. The boxed sales figures are also down 61% compared with 2015's Star Wars Battlefront.

Feckers will still make billions but at least this game won't be a success.

It's just like those bemoaning the death of rock music. I have the same response for these people...

Spend less time reading shit on youtube and twitter, and more time discovering new things. If you can't do that, shut the feck up and let those of us who have thoughts of our own get on with it.

Agh, yeah, that one gets my goat too. They’ll remember the cracking bands/songs/albums, and forget that just like in any era, the gems are floating around in a sea of mediocrity.

Had this bought for me as a gift and I’m not ashamed to admit I actually like it a lot.

Shame that the games guture has pretty much been ruined by EA’s greed.

I'm sure that sales of this game will increase closer to Christmas, am sure the majority of parents are unaware of the furore.

Yep, It looks like EA's greed has really shone the spotlight on these predatory practices in gaming with Hawaii, Belgium and now Australia's government looking into the matter and they only have themselves to blame:

Australian gambling analyst says loot boxes 'constitute gambling' by legal definition

The backlash against loot boxes has now reached all the way to Australia: Responding to an inquiry from a redditor named -Caesar, a strategic analyst for the Compliance Division of the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation said that "what occurs with 'loot boxes' does constitute gambling by the definition of the Victorian Legislation."

...he made no bones about where he stands on the matter: "The normalization of gambling vernacular and mechanics targeted at vulnerable persons (minors) is not just morally reprehensible, but is also legally questionable."

...if these companies want to include significant elements of gambling in their products then perhaps we should work with the Australian Classification Board to ensure than any product that does that and monetizes it gets an immediate R rating," he wrote. "I could imagine that this would send ripples through the industry and it would support the objectives of the Gambling Legislation to ensure minors are not encouraged to participate in gambling."

Wolfe also leveled an unmistakable and rather sinister-sounding warning to anyone in the business hoping that this will all blow over: "It is perhaps unfortunate for these companies that gamers have infiltrated most areas of government; be assured that knowledgeable and interested parties are undertaking a large body of work in relation to issues you noted. And if an avenue of investigation or enforcement is found, then we will most definitely pursue it."

Jim Sterling has been doing some good videos on the whole debacle too:

Upon further review, the progression system is completely fecked regardless of micro transactions. Or perhaps that's because they designed it with them in mind.

At any rate, it's embarrassing to completely feck up an AAA Star Wars franchise shooter release this bad...

This is creeping into the mainstream media and various parliaments of the world, I think once it gets more traction parents will start to think twice about buying their kids a star wars gambling simulator.

Perhaps but is the news getting out fast enough? Its easy to miss a news story about Star Wars or PS4 games if you're not interested in them in general. Can imagine even some who have seen this will still buy it cos its on their kids christmas list.

I actually played only about 3 hours ago. If you are a SW fan and new to the game you will be hooked but trust me once you upgrade all your characters with the best star cards it quickly becomes very boring. I took almost a year long break but recently reinstalled it.

PM me your IGN and I will add you. I'm rarely online though.

Is the game worth it for the SP experience? Not really looking into more multiplayer games but might give it a go.

I've started playing on Xbone recently, it's really good.

I had it on PS4 when it first came out and sold it because I couldn't be arsed for the grind, but playing it again now it's definitely a great game.
