THREE Ugandan youngsters will have right of entry to the West Ham and Manchester United football academies every season, courtesy of the Pro-line academy set to be launched on August 19.

The academy that will have its initial operations at the KCC FC training ground at Lugogo is scheduled to have an initial entry of three age categories of 3-6, 7-10 and 11-15.

"The best three players in the academy after every season will be sent to better academies in Europe but mainly West Ham and Manchester United," former KCC forward Mujib Kasule, the academy director disclosed.

"We intend to have it as a feeder academy that will identify local talent, develop the players and then recommend the best to Europe."

The sh20m project is anticipated to expand with facilities, a medical team, modern equipment and qualified trainers.

"Periodically, we will also have a group of coaches coming through from Europe to offer more expertise," Kasulle added.

I would imagine there would be - Uganda's FIFA ranking is poor, so even if the players manage to get enough caps they would still have to appeal for a work permit. If we do end up taking on anyone from Uganda, they will most likely follow the likes of Arthur Gomez and Souleymane Mamam in being loaned to Antwerp.
But if we do manage to unearth a prodigious talent, then he might just be able to get a permit through the special talent category - and to be honest, if this isn't the case then chances are that the player isn't worth signing anyway.

How does the Ugandian talent compare the talent of other African countries: Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon etc.

They are in the same bracket. There only major weakness is the majority of them are small fellows of the Defoe, Rossi mould with an occasional Rooney, Essien size of player. The have been winners of one of the world's premier under 14 tournaments: The Gothia Cup in Sewden for about 5 out of the last six competitions. Yet the after youth structures here are pretty poor. So once they live youth levevl (i.e under 17) age bracket most are lost o teh game via education. If united can take them into the academy and groom them before they turn 16 they could become players for us (in the special talent catagory Mikel style) or even make us money by farming them out all over Euorpe, wherever they would be eligible to play, getting compenstation as a result. With the steady talent I see amongst the really young lads here the mentioned situations would be the ideal outcome for this venture imo.
