They gave him to much space, one good press and he instantly lost it.

He benefited from Burnley's refusal to play through midfield.

Played really well today. Was nice to see. Although against faster teams he will probably struggle, but we have to use him now when Mctominay is out.
Against Arsenal it will be interesting to see him with Pogba and Fred hopefully. Özil is pretty slow so he should manage to stop him.

Felt his experience provided us some stability in midfield today. Physicality helped a tonne as well. There's still some left in the tank but should be used sporadically.

He played really well, looked very composed on the ball and neat passing. He is knocking on a bit and may struggle against a fast attacking team but he can still do a job and brings a wealth of experience to a young side... unfairly slated by many imo.

He had good game, added physical presence. He won few headers too which helped us considering how poor we are in dealing with aerial ball.

Don't shoot me but I think he's better than Mctominay. Matic is very composed on the ball, rarely losses possession and is a decent passer. I feel Mctom is too rash sometimes, matic is a better partner to Fred.
Of course he is better. I mean on the ball the difference between them is huge. McTominay compensates by energy levels

He's much better than McTominay on the ball. McTominay as a work horse is better due to his mobility. But Matic is comfortably more talented on the ball, even if he is over the hill.

Not a Matic performance if he isn’t caught with the ball at his feet in our own half. Let’s hope he is gone soon.

If only he was younger. We need a CM as composed as him in possession.

I think he’s past it but he had a solid performance today, same as Young actually.

I wish he were. The guy was just a monster at his peak. A defensive midfield with great passing, physicality & tecnical quality and brilliant reading of the game. Perfectly suited to the Premier League.

Very good today, their midfield was a non-entity and the couldn't get the ball off of Fred and Matic. Was a calming presence.

He was surprisingly good today, maybe Ole was making him be a lot fitter before playing any games? Looks a lot more concentrated and didn't take too many needless touches of the ball when in possession.

Bar first half against AZ, Matic has been fine since his return. Right now, it´s great to have him as an option and actually start rotating the midfield a little, even with McTominay out injured.

eg

Pogba - Fred
Pereira

Matic - Fred
Pogba

Exactly what I was thinking as well. He lost the ball in a bad position once, but apart from that he was solid and good at keeping the ball.

Good game to bring him against as Burnley just bypass the midfield with long balls and him dropping deep as usual is a help rather than a problem like normal. Burnley are the perfect type of opponents that he can still be effective against.

I would still ship him out and get a replacement in, as we won't play a team like Burnley every week.

You still looking to offload him in January, he's one I'd love to sign for our relegation battle.

Would there still be praises for him if that free kick went in after his feck up?

Aye, I think we played better tonight than we would’ve done with McTom in the side because Matic just does more when we have lots of possession. Shows how much we can still improve if we add a prime DM in our centre mid.

Sadly for you I think he’ll have the likes of Inter after him if we put him up for sale.

Would happily move him on if someone like Saul is coming in to replace him, otherwise I’d prefer to see him stay and get a few more games.

I would still be praising him, yes. I'm one of the very, very few who's appreciated what he's brought to central midfield here. His composure in possession is on another level to every other CM we have bar Pogba.

Was decent today but I absolutely hate the way he hogs the ball. He gave the ball away that way and could have costed us.

His best performance of the season, hopefully someone saw that and will take him off our hands. The slow tempo and non-existent midfield play benefited him.

He wasn't properly coached by the other players there. It was 1 mistake in a very good game.
He's been making those kind of mistakes for a long time now. Dwells on the ball far too long, gets pressured loses the ball. Young does something similar. Instead of playing the ball out of play they try to be clever.
And it could have ended really bad today

He slow as feck but should be getting a lot more minutes, specially with the state of our midfield. He’s a reliable option to keep posesion.

With McTominay out for at least 1 month, Matic will have to play a lot. Let's hope we actually buy some midfielders in January, CM or CAM, I don't really care, but we need more creativity.

I thought he was very good today, some of his and Fred’s passing really helped us control periods of the game Burnley were looking to take hold of.
