Perhaps someone who watched him at Benfica can enlighten me - Was he always so weak aerially? I find it galling how weak he is in the air. What makes it even more unbelievable is some of the rumoured reasons why United have opted not to sign/pursue players in the past, for example, the size of Isco’s head or de Ligt’s potential ‘weight issues’.

When one considers the quintessential prerequisites of a centre-half, surely having a good aerial presence is close to the top of the list. Some of his flimsy, weak defending, particularly aerially, would surely see him fall at one of the first hurdles, for a prospective scout, no? Yet a glaring weakness in his game is disregarded and he is signed, whilst other potential targets are subjected to bizarre, perhaps even irrelevant levels of scrutiny.

We need to improve on him fast if we are serious about doing anything of note.

Staggering to think the amount of money we have spent on defenders, and we still need a CB

Dial Barca and see if they are still interested, We can't sell Jones, he is stuck with us. Sell Baily and Lindelof, get in a proper CB. Bring back Smalling next year. With Jones, Smalling and Tuanzebe, we will have enough coverage. Get Pau Torres.

The occasional slick pass doesn't compensate for his many weaknesses.

Got completely exposed tonight in the first half, that second goal was a complete rookie goal, basic really. First he lost his man, was slow as feck and then he cant even tackle the ball.

It's the details our club is into when signing players. Yes Lindelof is weak in the air, but his head shape is just fine, and someone also told them he is good passer and they heard that's what modern defender should be all abput, plus he has a cool nickname - "Iceman", so what was there not to like?

Looks shite without Maguire to carry him. Mind you anyone would panic with Jones alongside them.

Horrific performance. Gifted them their 2nd goal. Continually passed the ball to Jones or De Gea.

Needs to be upgraded. He's not good enough for a good team unfortunately. Too many flaws. His positives are few.

We will be in the market for yet another CB.

Simply not good enough. What attributes does Lindelof actually excel in? Getting rid of Smalling while keeping Victor is farcical and shows the bad coaching we're currently subjected to.

His defending for the 3rd was almost worse than his shocking few seconds for the 2nd.

The arial part of the game has never been a strength for him. I´m quite sure he was Mourinhos personal pick. He said he watched portugese league every week so he had sen him a lot. Who knows why he thought he was worth 30m.

Been saying this since he came, a terrible defender if that is what he should be called. Did better in the second half when Matic came on to plug the gaps left by Chuckle and that Swede. Worst of our bunch.

It is clear he needs some rest. Both him and Maguire, plus some others, seemed tired already in last match. Played 7 games in 17 days, that’s 7 match days and 10 rest days.

I can name you what Maguire is good at, but can you name me what Lindelof is good at? This is your challenge.

You thought Lindelof was better than every City player?

You can almost put me down a 'hater' now because I just don't know how to react to these blantant, bias, rose tinted evaluations for such a second rate defender.

Lindelof started 'playing well' in the 2nd half when City's intensity dropped and he had all the time in the world to play passes from the back under no pressure and Matic/Fred dropped to give him all the options in the world.

Conveniently it was the same time Jones started doing better

People are really gonna die on the Lindelof is a good player hill then? Give it up people he's dog shite.
It is not worth it. We all want the squad to be the best it can be. Hard to be enthusiastic about Lindelof. He would be a decent backup CB, imo. In some ways he is good, yet inconsistent. Some players like that may play a part for great clubs but he has too many flaws to his game to ever be first choice for a top team. I hoped he would improve but shit is getting even worse, hoping for better after the evidence we have from all his performances for the club is sort of delusional imo. I thought he was younger than he was, he won't improve so we do actually need two-three CB's depending on Smalling and Tuanzebe.

The whole team was world class that second half, it is just that Lindelof was the pick of the litter, the iceman on the cake.

I'm telling you - this guy drags maguire to the ground.

Making an 80 mil defender look like a 20 mil defender when maguire can atleast be a 50 mil defender for us of good quality.

We will never win a major trophy as long as this guy is starting at this club.

The faster tuanzebe can get healthy the better. Ideal partner for maguire. Think smalling would play well with maguire as well, but tuanzebe needs to be given a chance.

He needs a defender with physical presence to carry him. Maguire does this the same way Smalling did.

This is what I was saying too but the problem is that Maguire needs one aswell because Maguire likes to play with the ball at his feet - he just has more physical ability than Lindelof so does it more often than him.

As repeated as it is - the reason I doubt I began with doubts over Ole was the reason I began doubts with Southgate - Smalling & Maguire would work & there is nothing in footballing terms that would stop such a partnership competing for a top 4 or getting us in a international Cup quarter final over someone like Lindelof or stones/Dier respectively.

Honestly I think he's escaped criticism this season in general.

I think he's been very poor throughout the season.

Amazing how we go from Rio/Vidic to this guy.

cant stand the jogging. As a CB you work your ass off getting back to your position. At the third goal he was Miles behind. Looks like he does not care anymore.

You can complain about a lot today, but hardly that he is poor under pressure. He handled the press good and was the only defender who was able to play through it.
Yeah Jones was atrocious in that aspect, didn't want the ball at all

I just cannot get beyond how poor he is in the air for a Centre Back. He’s terrible and it’s cost us again today for the 2nd goal
Worst part is he struggles against average height players, the likes of Andre Ayew and Gundogan shouldn't be a challenge in the air for a CB but somehow they are to him

The more I watch him the more I think he is like another Jonny Evans. I feel like he needs a big character / leader to guide him through games - and he will never be the man to lead the back line.
This is pretty much it. Hes good enough to be a backup here, hes the best we have at playing the way we are trying to play, but we need top players next to him like we did when Evans was around.

Maguire is ok but needs to establish himself in his own right first, and nobody else looks remotely up to it.

Completely agree.

Maguire's had to carry him the whole season. He's good, but he still needs a partner who can hold his own.

One of the most cowardly players I've ever seen here. Needs upgrading on urgently. If only we hadn't loaned out one of our actual decent CBs.

Lindelöf needs some time on the bench. I love the guy but he looks completly drained .

I think he's been decent(ish) of late - better then Maguire (who's been a bit crap) - though both of them routinely do stuff that actually would justify a chuckle brother moniker. .. but you could possibly put that down to tiredness and our rubbish squad management.

However, The way I always look at it is, if Lindelof was playing for Leicester / Everton / Southampton / Brighton ... would we be going out of our way to sign him? I doubt it.... I mean i don't see us front the queue to sign Lewis Dunk.

He would be a fine 3rd/4th choice... and I actually think he'd be pretty content with that at a club like ours... just a bit annoying that we still should be looking to buy a CB this summer (which we almost certainly won't do).

I have a strong dislike for physically weak CBs. If they are cowards like him as well all hope is lost.
