A year ago people would be begging not to see Ashley young again at rb and wanted Dalot to take over even if struggles because he was adapting and young sucks. A year later people have written the kid off and would keep young as the back up. Honestly not even surprised.

There isn't much to be gained in this season. We can let him go and try the young ones in his position.

I can't honestly understand why on Earth Inter would want him, I get why they wanted Lukaku, I can see why they took a punt on Sanchez but I've got no explanation for this one
Because he is a top professional, experienced and will be a good backup for whatever they have there.

He got a good reputation among the coaches/scouts.

Good move for us as well if this happens at the end of the season.

More space for our youngsters or a new signing.

All for looking to youth but the way people talk as if Laird has played loads for the senior team already and is guaranteed to be a success is so typical of this place. He’s very promising, but hasn’t anyone learned to be a bit more cautious when hyping up youngsters?

I always find funny how same rules arent applied to seniors and those kids, any youngster doesnt need to be a success, hell not even better than senior just not more shit. 2/10 on lower wage youngster > 2/10 senior who is stealing a living.

Ditto, but they are doing very well at fecking my head.

Wanted Lukaku gone, wanted Fellaini gone, wanted Smalling gone for years but only our club can manage to do it in a way that makes me go into a meltdown of ”what? not right now, slow down, not without someone coming in, what the feck, whaaaat are we doing, we have no players!!!”

This:lol:

The club has actually been good at getting rid of deadwood under OGS with Smalling, Alexis, Lukaku, Fellaini gone, and now Young and possibly Matic and Rojo gone in the space of the next six months. Hopefully Lingard too. The big blemish is Jones but can't expect the club to be perfect considering the cirumstances. A case could be made for Mata's contract too but it looks like they have plans for him after his playing career is over. Shame it fails in every other department.

I'm not sure I'm supportive of letting any player leave in January at the moment. Our squad is paper thin already, and while Young needs to be replaced, the board are not going to bring a replacement in during this window. I would hold onto him until the summer at this stage. That way we can at least bring in reinforcements.

Otherwise we are likely to just end up in a situation like our midfield, were we have let players go and not replaced them, and now find ourselves both lacking quality and quantity there.

Current top of Serie A ahead of one of the World's undoubted top clubs Juventus.

Ashley Young would be taking a step up, who the hell would've said that 12 months ago?! Ahhhhhh man, what a good bloody manager can do for a side.

Who'd have thought you could actually rebuild a side whilst maintaining decent enough standards, who'd have thought a fire sale isn't required and that a rebuild can actually be done gradually be a top manager. What is this wizardry

Out of all the deadwood, Young is one of the ones i dislike the least. Always worked hard, just wasnt good enough. felt sorry for him at times. Been here way longer than he ever should have, but one the lads i would say 'gets the club' but simply aint good enough. I wish him all the best.

Ive no idea what Inter Milan see in him at this stage , hes cost us a fair few points this last few years
Its about time he was moved him on though, Inter seem to be putting more effort into the United rebuild than United are

Why? It's clearly time for Young to move on. Best thing for player and club.

Good servant and has done well in covering both full back spots considering he is a winger. He was a great squad option in our last title winning sides. His attitude has always been good and while he hasn't scored many for us they were usually screamers when he did score. Wish him well whether he leaves now or in the summer.

8-2 hammering of Arsenal probably his standout performance.

I like Dalot a lot actually, but his injury record aint looking great is it? Can we trust that he'll be available as a back up?

 I didn't want him going this month, no problem in the summer thought that was best for everyone. Typical us offering him a contract extension. God this club will be the death of me.

Obviously we want to hold back the progress of Laird,Williams. Why else?

In all seriousness, the BBC reported this morning that he will be moving to Italy. Great opportunity at 34

If Shaw and Dalot were reliable and firing I would 100% agree, without that there's a case for us needing Young for cover at fullback. It's a pretty embarrassing state of affairs but that's United in 2019 unfortunately.

Extending Young's contract would be the most Manchester United thing to do, short of actually naming Phil Jones as manager.

I hate this club.
We've back ourselves into a shitty corner though haven't we? By having a fire sale the past 12 months.

I'm sure United are shitting themselves at being left with an even weaker squad.

Obviously the smartest move would be to not renew, and buy a replacement now or have one 100% lined up for the Summer and only let Young go then.

"Smart" and United though

We have Brandon Williams who has shown plenty of promise and hopefully Ethan Laird will be making a break through soon. Shaw and Dalot will still be here next season too. We have options. It's best to let Young walk and if whoever the manager is in the summer feels we need another full back then he should be allowed to buy one.

I think they just want a fee and not allow him to move for free.

Does anyone really believe we’ll be stating a 35 year old full back?........

Gulp!

If Dalot and Shaw are fit then those four are fine, if like this year they are unavailable for most of the season we'll be light. Obviously you can't hold on to every single decent professional in case all your players get injured at once but my only point is I think there is a case that he's worth keeping for another year, much as I'd rather there wasn't.

That day will come. I expect to see Nicky Butt and Carrick to be manager before him, but then it'll be Phil Jones.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone, even those of us who strongly thought we should keep Young until the summer, suggest extending his contract. We shit the bed every fecking time.

This might be rock bottom for me. I've got nothing against Young at all, he's been great for the club, but him parting ways at his age in the summer just seemed the logical move for all parties. How can this club pretend to be moving forward when it makes moves like this? I think I might be having a meltdown.

I hope he's getting a pay rise too.

He's a decent option to have for every 3-4 games. The problem was when he was first choice every game.

Butt and Carrick would be an upgrade.

Nicky doesn’t take any crap and can be pretty forthright to players.

There is no spoon.
Last summer's out goings and concerns over pogba really are hampering our ability to clear out more deadwood without a 200m+ transfer window in the summer.
