Gullit and Souness were excellent finds. If that Beckenbauer pick stands, you can count me out of the draft. No idea how that has been accepted. Still yet to see the Moore and Batistuta covers. Hate to be that guy but this round is a shambles with all it's loopholes and dodgy picks.
I thought Gullit would be blocked for sure.. I thought he was the forward that @Enigma_87 was talking about..

I barely researched.. Searched football video games and this wiki link had everything

the 99 FIFA had alternative covers for different markets:

Here are some more from that year:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_(video_game_series)
Those below are listed, yes. Batistuta is not listed there and i can't see a single Batistuta cover when doing various google searches. Your pic is also missing the FIFA water mark top right on the cover. Also, there's a lot of white background on the games but not on Batistutas. Yeah.

That is 100% not a cover though, you can find the same for most of the icons in fifa
I know, but you always have a round like this that just ends up being controversial.

For a first time draft mod, been a brilliant spotlessly run draft till then, so we can let this pass.

Well this is what I’ve verified before making the pick and looks genuine to me. Why would anyone make a knock off fifa PlayStation cover in 99?

No idea. I do have an idea why someone would do it in 2020 though. You're pretty good with photoshop, right? You know it's funny, if you google "Batistuta celebration", that picture on that cover is the first picture that pops up. Probably a coincidence though..

Yea that Batistuta one is definitely a fake.

That picture and jersey is from 1998-99 season and Fifa 99 released before the start of the 98-99 season (10 June 1998). So impossible for it to make it there.

Also, Fiorentina's shirt sponsor was Nintendo and its highly unlikely that playstation would put a player with Nintendo jersey on the cover

 I might be the only one in this round who went with a straight forward popular game cover!
I did too! Both Vieira and Mendieta were on variations of FIFA covers.

Anyway, sorry for the outrage y'all, it's just a fecking internet game after all  I'll pick some weird team and get knocked out in the first round.

I’m not that good mate.

Mike can verify that was the very first image I sent to him as soon as we got the criteria asking if it is legit and then found a Romario one.

That Batistuta is funnily fake. Surely you think so too @Enigma_87 !!?? How can you not

I know it’s an internet game but to spend time picking genuine Picks only to be shafted is crap. I’ve never made it through a first round of a draft so clearly don’t care too much or play too within the rules of a draft, or just rubbish at it. Any or all

I googled fifa cover images from 96 till 2020 and found different images for different markets, found Romario one alongside Batistuta and couple of others and asked if it is ok. Needed a forward so didn’t really put any more effort in it and send it as picks.

To be honest I really hate rounds like these because it ends up in controversy - tashes, chest hairs, thighs and so on.

This is why I asked if it is ok or not.

So you don’t think it’s fake?
Well I thought it is obviously.

Chill, I know you didn't Photoshop it, but it's obviously a fake. Here's the proof and origin

You fecked up @Michaelf7777777 :D

The Valderrama one is also fake? Can you paste the link also to that?

 Sorry, @Enigma_87 Thought i was Sherlock Holmes for a second there.
No worries, mate I thought it was a great find and a fantastic cover, would be a shame not to be real.

Also thought scrappy and others will find it too that’s why I said we would probably block each other till round 3 :)

I was never in for a striker. So many good strikers left in the pool to pick later. I knew no one would go Cruyff, so got cocky leaving him for round 2. But then as I said before, letting you pick Romario would have ended the draft as a competition and a block was necessary considering everyone else had a striker.

Makes sense.

Next pick sent.

Here.... Although, it's already accepted.

It is clearly Franz Beckenbauer in his German shirt wearing number 5 with a captain's armband. It is Handheld electronic game from feckin 1979. Handhold electronic game is a very small, portable device for playing interactive electronic game, a miniaturized version of video game.

I would find him even if I had to do my own video game. Now, leave me be.

Hmm...an expansion pack isn't a video game.

And, no - that clearly can't be called a "cover".

Oh well - got away with it, case closed.

:lol: That's a genius bit of research. Also, that dodgy Batistuta pick never would have stood in our well-oiled machine of a draft :wenger:
