Give peas a chance.
PS4 reveal was the February before a November release, so hopefully we'll get a proper look soon(ish), plus retailers will want them to announce something as early as possible so they can get their pre-orders up and running.

The idea of E3 is fantastic as spectacle and as a showpiece for games and the industry, but you hear so many stories about the horrible crunches companies have to go through getting stuff ready for that event, I think I'd rather companies like Sony and their first party studios focus on getting stuff ready for launch, rather than getting a stage demo prepped that doesn't work to their timeline.

Sony confirmed they won’t be appearing.

It’s nothing to do with crunch. It’s more to do with disagreements with the people who run E3. There’s possible chance they could have their own event around the same time. Technically Ms aren’t at E3 as it’s their own event. Same with EA.

I've linked it in #487. As the person said Sony would be returning to E3 - a week before it was confirmed that Sony weren't going to be at E3 - I'd take the rest of it with a pinch of salt.

If it's £450, then should really make (have made) the PS4 Pro the entry version of the console.

I.e. "Plays only on the PS5 and PS4 Pro."

PS4 Pro is under £350 which is about right for a new console at launch.

But we all know they aren't doing that.

Considering the tech spec, £450 is a bargain. The price of a mid range gfx card for an entire dedicated gaming system.

Ah right. Sorry, i didn't see that.

Yeah, i think the February reveal is correct and the release date. But the rest i'll remain skeptical on. I'd be very happy with that price though.

Yeah i'd be very happy with that. £100 more than the PS4 at launch which i think is reasonable considering, as you said, the specs on the thing. I don't think they can afford to have to too much more than that, tbh.

Delicate balance between specs and price point.

Aren’t most consoles sold at a loss in their early life cycles? Even at an expensive price the PS3 was losing a feck load of money on each console sold.

Would have no issues paying £450 for something that will last me 5/6/7 years before the next generation.

The PS3 did but they had another motive there in that they wanted to get a Blu-Ray player in as many houses as possible so it would beat HD-DVD to become the next generation optical disc - which very much worked.

They’re going to want to find a balance on this one between selling units and making money on game licences and making money back directly from the units. I think they will run at a small loss to begin with and eventually make a profit when the technology becomes cheaper.

Curious to see the size of the SSD's. The hard drives on the PS4 are nowhere near big enough. Constantly deleting games just to update others. Pain in the arse.

I'd be shocked if they're any bigger than 1tb
That's what i'm thinking considering they have to keep the price down, but that simply isn't big enough. The games on the current gen are massive, i hate to think how big they're going to be on next gen. Be constantly deleting games just to update others.

Although i hear that they're introducing a feature that will allow you do install only part of the game. For example, a COD game will allow you to install only the multiplayer and leave the single player out to save space. We'll see.

New horizon, new Spiderman and a new naughty dog game?

Depending on release dates this might be a day one purchase for me.

We've begun to share some of the incredible features you can expect from PlayStation 5, but we're not quite ready to fully unveil the next generation of PlayStation. Sign up below to be among the first to receive updates as we announce them, including news on the PS5 release date, PS5 price and the upcoming roster of PS5 launch games.
Safe to say the reveal won't be this month.

With a massive markup like all tech though. And they'll be buying in huge bulk.

Have they said/hinted at anything about backwards compatibility, e.g, will I be able to download my digital games collection on to a PS5 from my PS4? That would be very cool.

I’m pretty sure that they have already said that it will be backwards compatible mate.
