Cavani is the only one we could potentially get this January that is Decent and experienced, and would probably be ok with a 6 month deal.

We don't need anyone to play on the right, in the Salah/Robben type role because we have James, Pereira, Dalot and Mata. That's 4 great options we have for the position. The fact that none of them can play that position is irrelevant because they all do a job if they play there. Doing a job is what it's all about. Ask any British manager up and down the country, throughout the divisions. They always pick their teams on that basis. Him there, him there, who there? Hmm he can do a job there. Sorted. Playing a team where everyone is playing the position they are most effective is not actually important and that's why the vast majority of British managers never bother doing it. Mane-Firmino-Salah is just a fluke. Them being such an effective front 3 has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with them each playing in the position they are most effective. Anyone who says different is a big fat liar!
That’s all nice, but what about Norwegian managers?

Another striker we should actually go over the top should be Edouard Odsonne. I think he will be a better buy than even Timo Werner, although I am a huge Timo fan, but I think Edouard just edges him. Any one of Edouard or Osimhen, along with Soumare will be amazing buys for United.

Yup Cavani would be good. Get Bruno Fernandes and Cavani in right now and we can put this out in the mean time until some players return:

Cavani
Martial Fernandes James
Fred Matic

Then McTominay and Pogba (if hes ever back) replace obvious players. Rashford when back takes the LW again and then we have Martial and Cavani rotating.

Makes too much sense though.

I read your first sentence and was ready to go both barrels... then I read the rest of the post. Glad I did, I was going to look like a right tit.

Him or Piatek. Better yet, him and Piatek. Cavani can play wide, we can switch to two up top and still have plenty of options and we get two finishers in.

Obviously that's a mad idea and we will sign no one.

Tuchel just said he's not sure if Cavani will be at PSG in February. Piatek also not wanted by Milan and Mertens not wanted by Napoli. There are options

Mertens sign him up and get Cavani on loan. I’m not about wasting funds just to save Ole’s job. We need the money for the summer.

Would take any of those. Better even two.
All three would be even better. Both Mertens and Cavani can play wide when needed. Which leads to options and we can actually rest the forwards we have left every once in a while because one is injury prone, one is a child, one looks knackered and one is Lingard. Also with Cavani or Piatek we might actually score headers from corners. Probably not, but it becomes slightly more possible.

With Pogba coming back, I'd go with a diamond. We need to maximise how much threat comes through the middle, because Rashford is the only attacker we have who's clever enough to make runs from outside to in when we play a front 3.

With a diamond, we give our forwards less chance to take up the wrong positions.

Martial -- Mason
James
Pogba----------Fred
McTominay

The likes of Pereira, Mata, Matic and Lingard can fill in on occasion.

It's not ideal, but we only need to hold out for a couple of months until Rashford gets back. If we were to bring in another forward in January, it would probably take that long for them to acclimatise anyway. We'd be unlikely to gain anything for the short period they'd be first choice.

Pogba is supposedly back on 17/02. McTominay on 23/02. That's only 3 Premier League games away. I'm not fussed about the cups. We should stick with what we have until then.

Not going to happen though let’s be honest.

Piatek is supposed to be very, very average. Just had a purple patch it seems.

Not sure he'd be the type of forward we need at all.

He's been very average since he hit a bad patch of form, when he was on form he was absolutely lethal. If we got any semblance of that for 6 months it would be a pretty big boost, he'd tap in those James crosses for a start. It is a very big if at this point though and there's no garantee we'd create good enough chances for him. I'd still give it a try given the lack of options and goal threat.

I just don't see us getting him any service. Yes James gets the odd cross in but he's a striker who has zero build up qualities, not a huge amount of pace either.

Sporting Director Leonardo in the mixed zone: "Edinson Cavani has asked to leave. We are studying the situation. We had an offer from Atletico Madrid, we did not accept it. I don't know how this is going to turn out."

How long before Ole utters those magical words "J Lingz can do a job up front"?

I think we need a right forward more than a striker

James is better suited to the left, and obviously Rashford plays there long term

Martial is best suited up front, and Greenwood is decent back-up

Who do we have who prefers the right? No fecker

Remember when we had Henrik Larson for two months RVN had gone to Madrid and Solkjaser was out injured the impact he had on fans and players around him, think Cavani would have an even bigger and better impact, he would be the perfect six month loan deal if it was an option.

Bid 70 million for Jimenez,

Wolves surely would accept that
I was thinking of Jimenez as well.

The sad thing is that we will have to overpay for whatever striker we go for because it’s January and clubs know we’re desperate.

What about the Lyon forward although they probably wouldn't sell him now with Memphis Depay out for the season.

Luka Jovic on loan? Real Madrid hasn't really worked out for him.

We won’t get anyone in and will start Mason Greenwood every game with internet reds calling him “Greenbeck” because he isn’t actually at Van Persie’s level yet, his confidence gets shot and we finish the season miles off top 4 and pretend for another 3 months we’ve got a war chest to solve it all.

in all seriousness it will be very difficult to get anybody on loan although Chelsea have signed strikers in January before with little problem. Anelka, Torres, Pato, Higuain.

Mertens and Cavani have spent years of their careers being wasted out wide. Deploying them there only blunts their impact. I think both could be very good options but only with a view to using them from a central attacking starting position (though apparently Cavani has fallen off a cliff now...).
