Woodward deserves all the criticism in the world. But it's quite ironic to bring this up now. United have been burning money at a record pace ever since SAF retired, yet this year it could be said that the attempts to trim the squad/wage bill left the squad too thin in some areas.

I don’t like the Glazers and it’s obviously them who have put this clown in the job. However, Neville is right and the fact is you could have built a title winning squad with half the money we have spent over the last few years and yet we are proper shite. That’s because the recruitment from this moron has been wank, both managerial and player recruitment.

I know Fergie left in 2013 and there may have been an inevitable slump but the fact we are still so far off winning the league again 7 years later is because this clown also came in in 2013. He is the common denominator.

Embarrassing when people say he doesn't care about the club. Unlike most fans he actually has a long standing relationship with the club so can't always be reactionary and call the club out.

Fair play to him for this.

For once I can agree with Neville. This clown (ed) needs to leave

Well done Gary, about time. He danced around the issue a year ago, but he’s calling for Woodward’s head specifically.

A distinct change of tune from that smug town hall like appearance before the start of the season . Better late than never though.

Well this makes a change from the usual we dont spend enough accusation.

Today its 'we have spent too much, sack him'.

Tomorrow 'we haven't spent enough, sack him'.

The lack of succession planning pre Woodward is as much to blame.

Jose's signings also to blame as well as the recent DDG contract.

Chances the Glaziers will care?

Zero.

Whilst seats are being filled and sponsorship being signed they will do nothing except count the cash.

This is why Gary Neville continues to be held in such high-regard. He is far more inutuitive, considered, thorough, and forward-thinking than many, many, many of the other football pundits out there. He has changed the way people consider punditry. He is also, importantly, a leader in terms of providing analysis and comment on issues... he is clear, consistent., and subsequently, speaks with purpose and a degree of authority (whether actual or perceived..).

And I am pleased he has opened this debate. Many will now follow.

I did not realise that we had the second largest wage-bill in the world. That is both a disgrace, and an absolute embarrasment. We have become a 'laughing stock' of a club. Something must change. Must.

I don't think I'll ever feel real optimism for our chances of improving at all until Woodward and Ole are both out the door.

Or at least both away from the football side of things.

It's an important step in building an atmosphere against the higher ups at this club. You're right to say it will achieve nothing in of itself but I'd sooner have pundits, journos and fans calling out the terrible state of this club than not.

Meh, its a bit pointless to focus on just one guy, whats actually needed is calls for the owners to feck off and a push for fan ownership. I get the feeling 90% of United fans(Including Neville)would be more than happy with owners similar to the ones Pool have.

There are million issues with United and the on field stuff is near the very bottom of the list.

Ed's philosophy has always been to hire some bloke who has a load of trophies. This is the philosophy of someone who knows nothing about the game. Moyes was Fergie's choice but Ed has single-handedly butchered us since then.

Football evolves and changes quickly. The like of Capello, Van Gaal, Martin O'Neil, Wenger were shit-hot yesterday, but beyond dinosaurs today.

The thing is though, that Ed learned on the job and probably has learned from his mistakes by now. Pochettino doesn't want a job till Summer as he is on full pay till then and has an agreement with Levy not to take another PL job till summer. They won't sack Ole now as it becomes cheaper to sack him when top 4 is no longer possible.

This season is a write-off, we need to accept the pain now, realize there's no use sacking Ole unless we know if Naglesmann or Poch want to come in the summer. Hopefully with a new DOF too

Yeah but either way you look at it, it’s a failure by Woodward. He’s the one that's sanctioned all the bad spending that we’re trying to clear. If there was a director of football in place, then he could get the blame. But as it is, Ed is the one in charge. There’s no scenario that Ed Woodward isn’t to blame.

Whatever you think of the Glazers, we are massively underperforming given the outlay.

Ed is a terrible CEO. If the Glazers won´t remove him the fans need to put pressure on the owners to act. The state of this squad is embarrassing and that is on Ed no one else.

Again, I'm not defending Woodward in any way. I just think it's weird that now is the moment where this point is being made.

A lot of that wage bill is sat on the bench at Inter Milan. That was a great buy Ed. Problem we have is that it has been allowed to escalate, so the only thing Manchester United have to offer is money. If they had got the right manager who was good at choosing players in the first place we likely wouldn't be in this mess. The first mistake has dragged the club further and further into the mire.

Oh wow. That's a surprise.

The media United constantly briefs still timid to fully call him out though.

Poch will just fail again with no help up above. He has always had help above. We should have a new structure in place for 18 months now building a team.

Neville has always been against Woodward. Just wish he could judge our managers as well without blinkers.
He never called for him to be sacked I think. He was highly critical if him for potentially sacking Mourinho last season, but other than that he was skirting around the issue as @2 man midfield pointed out.

This is a good thing! The more articles that pop up with figures like Neville clearing at aging strong opinions about this, the more we will see journalists picking it up and amping up the pressure.

Woodward has been awful for too long now and gotten off with it. I still don’t think the squad is that bad, but second highest wage bill in the world puts into perspective how inept he has been.
