So we keep the bleeeding head, who knows it'll stop bleeding when the cancer is out?

Great
Who's said we keep the bleeding head. Anyway, distasteful comparisons imo.
Change the manager but keep everything else the same. I'm sure it will work out.

Ole going doesn't solve everything, but its an obvious start in the right direction.
I know where you are coming from, but it could actually cause more problems. Another rebuild. Unfortunately it might be that Ole has to be allowed to rebuild this team. I suspect he won't be allowed to. I can see what he wants to do, but like most am not sure he has the coaching acumen to get it across to the players, so maybe it is the coaches that need changing.

I'm wondering if we get a new manager does he go into yet another rebuild. Or just use what he has with 1 or 2 players going. Anyway I don't think we need one more major rebuild and to be honest I'm sick and tired of rebuilds.

Ole can't be allowed to rebuild this team. You might as well give it to someone on here. I think his vision and idea is similar to what plenty of us want which is great, but just like everyone on here, he's not got the talent or knowledge on a coaching level to make it happen.

There's a reason no other team in the PL would take him as their manager. How can anyone think going down this road makes sense, I just don't understand.

The whole coaching staff needs binning.

He is a nice guy, but to me he does not have the personality to inspire players, to make them fight when things are going against them.

The advantage of our current situation is that the small squad allows the manager to build more than rebuild.

But if you let Ole stay and be the one who builds it, and he ends up losing his job, then the next manager will obviously rebuild.

Much like Giggs, I don't see him as an inspiring manager figure. I just don't, and the results seem to back it up. Very likeable guy, I think the players like him, but being likeable isn't enough.

If you are going to change manager, I'd much rather see a DoF appointed first and let him pick the manager. Woodward needs to be driven to idiotville on a short bus and not let out again.

Season already a write off. Maybe even since October. So it will be really hard to attract good players in the summer transfer window. And honestly our scouting doesn't seem great. So apart from a few 16 years old I don't see us getting in players who will be able to improve us right away. In my point of view we lost years with the last and this season. Poor handling of the squad, poor management, poor tactics.

I loved him as a player. Always remember seeing an interview where he explained that he would notice things during the game that he could exploit which is why his scoring record as sub was so good.
It seems like he's forgotten his own advice.
The logical starting line up should have been Martial on the left and Greenwood up top but he couldn't even get that right?!

Is there even a single United fan who is suggesting that this is what we should do? Because I haven't seen one yet.

Or are you suggesting that the club leadership would simply just fire the manager and do nothing else? That is not unreasonable - but it begs the question that why would they change anything if they kept the manager? If we think the club is unwilling to make the structural changes that are required, then the alternatives are:

- Change the manager but keep everything else the same.
- Keep everything the same.

It worked in the past. Moyes lvg jose were all better than ole

Not 100 percent. But definitely better than ole's at the wheel carwreck.
How exactly did that work? If it worked we wouldn't be in this situation right now.

In case you missed it we are 30 points behind Liverpool , with a squad that cost hundreds of millions more , and a player payroll that is far far higher . You just have not got a clue have you ?

Ole is a cheap and docile operator. He's absolutely useless and the fact he's got the job is at hand of the Glazers. Solskjaer cannot begin to rebuild the club because what quality signings are itching at the feet eager to play for him ?

We as a club are finished so long as the standards set remain low.

Good post. I feel increasingly sorry for the guy. Our onl game changing option off of the bench was an 18 year old kid, then Lingard. We must let him continue with this rebuild.

Ole isn't doing well, but this stems from the transfer decisions. It's a shambles we only have Shaw and Lingard to bring on when we're losing a game. Where the feck are the attackers in our squad - this is Manchester United.

Obviously isn't the biggest problem, easiest to solve yes, but to say he's the biggest problem is laughably ignorant.
Nobody wants the Glazers and Ed gone more than me, I fecking hate them. But fans cant change owners no matter how much they push, but they can push to change the manager. The Glazers are leeches on the club but what club in the league has owners that are better than them (bar city)? every club in the league has profit owners who wants to get back their money. But their biggest problem is keeping Ed, that is making these managerial appointments. We spent more money than any club in the league in the last 7 years (bar city) so we are for sure not the worst spenders.
The manager is the biggest problem, because he is a manager not only a coach he is the glue to everything. He is not showing any signs of good coaching nor management.

We would need someone to build on Ole. If we got Ancelotti or another Jose like manager, we would rebuild.

But, if we got Poch another manager that work with limited resources there wouldn’t be as much of a drastic rebuild.

Of course, every manager will need their players. Ideally, we would need a manager that would be able to advantage of Ole’s positives. Klopp did this at Liverpool. Poch did this at Spurs when he joined.

The big mistake we made was getting rid of Van Gaal and getting Jose. It undid all the foundations and style of play that Van Gaal was teaching. We drastically changed it to Mourinho’s park the bus style. We then millions on the wrong players. Now due to that mourinho decision, we have been massively setback. I think it arguably has had as big an impact as Moyes did. When Gaal left we need to get a possession coach and build on the philosophy he was trying to imprint.

We could argue that ole has no playing style or philosophy. But he has blooded a few good players. Players such as McTominay, Fred and Rashford have improved. We need the next manager, to use these players as the core and slowly add his parts.

Agreed. Good post. I think Ed will go for the next big name just as he did with LVG and Jose without thinking why and without any plan behind it. Maybe that make will be Poch but my gut feeling is he won't sack Ole till the summer, maybe even beyond.

Sorry state of affairs. He should never have been given the full job before the season ended. As a caretaker manager fine, but the manager of Molde with no other managerial experience should not be getting the manger position here. Yet even if he's not the man for it if doesn't mean he's the real problem.

If he's improved the team as much as you believe then why are we still so bad? I'd say we're still as bad as Jose's team in his last season and nowhere near as good as Jose's best team when he had Zlatan etc.

He deserves credit for giving youngsters a chance, but that doesn't make him a good manager, just somebody that naively gutted the squad and didn't bring anybody in.

It's all opinions of course but I think we, more than anybody, make a mountain out of a mole hill that is the low block. Teams that are taking points off us with it are getting rolled over by lesser teams. You don't need the best midfield in the world to overcome Burnley. Liverpool don't have a creative midfielder and they're the best team on the planet. The difference is in their coaching, how the approach their games. They've signed attacking fullbacks to help overcome compact teams.

A good manager finds a way and that's where any argument for Ole falls flat on it's face. Besides, even last season when we had Pogba, McTominay, Rashford etc, we still went on a terrible run for the last part of the season where we were in freefall. The same happened earlier this season when we had those guys available.

We've won less games than Burnley since he took over. We're 30 points off top, 17 points off second, 14 points off 3rd, and only 11 points off relegation. We've the third fewest amount of clean sheets despite spending £130m on our defense. We've won 9 games in 24.

Whatever about injuries and our depleted squad, not one player in that Burnley team last night would get into our 11.

You are fecking nuts if you still think he's the right man for any kind of rebuild here. All we've done under him so far is become the laughing stock of the league.

What exactly do you think he's going to rebuild here? He's made the squad worse, he's made poor signings, he's made most of our players perform worse, he's made our best player want to leave, we play worse football, we concede more goals, we score less goals, we get less points, we lose more games. What sort of a rebuild is that?

This sums up Ole’s managerial abilities. A team that didn’t care with a manager who desperately wanted to be sacked, still performed better than the shitshow we see now. This proves how out of his depth here Ole is and it’s ridiculous how he is still in the job. All our rivals are laughing at him chanting “we want you to stay”, we are 5th but let’s not ignore the fact that we are closer to fecking 14th than 4th, his post match conferences are worse than Moyes’, no other PL and even Championship club will take him once he is gone from us, heck even Molde won’t as they are better now. Ole is a nothing manager and it clearly shows on the pitch. Enough of this failed experiment and inventing BS excuses, time to get back to reality and get a proper manager in.

That's the thing, he had managerial experience. He got Cardiff relegated from the Premier League, then had them in the relegation zone in the Championship. They sacked him, turned it around and I believe they finished 11th.

Well said.

I've tried not to be overly critical myself but last night was awful and genuinely had me thinking it's time for him to go, but as your post illustrates, he has done a lot of good although I have a feeling he won't be around to see the end results.

How do you explain the complete lack of urgency, ever, when we're at 0-0? Slow, sideways football. Then we go a goal down, it shocks us to the core, and we spring into action and spend the rest of the game urgently trying to equalise? Last night, we STILL didn't spring into life until 75 minutes when we forced them right back, but had no creativity.

We play like just like his personality. Nice, gentle, intimidating and full of excuses.

I love Ole and everything he's done for the club, I like the signings, but we needed Lukaku for another year, we needed Smalling, feck we needed Fellaini for another year, Hererra for another year.

It's just not good enough. You can't just ship 8 players out and bring 3 in. He's done it too quickly and its had a detrimental effect on our squad. Rashford has been overplayed, god knows how Fred is still running, we have no options when 0-2 down so he brings Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard on.

Sorry, but thats an amateur mistake. A top class manager appreciates they're not the players he wants but he needs numbers in the short term, you don't just gut a club out and not replace them.
And on top of that, making excuses that we've played too many games, we've got injuries. Every club plays lots of games, every team has injuries. A top manager does not allow Burnley to come to Old Trafford and do that. It costs nothing to train your players to be fit and out run your opponent, to employ better tactics, to make better runs, to look for better passes.

It's an absolute shambles. Blame Ed all you like, but money has been available and managers have taken it and spent it, including Ole. If Ole was desperate to bring more players in, then go for a cheaper CB, or keep Smalling, and invest in the midfield. It's absolutely scandalous.
