We are all aware of our issues in the transfer market over since Woodward took the reigns. However, on this occasion, the great D Levy at Spurs and Chelsea are both struggling to recruit strikers.

If he signs will he be the first Nigerian (as a naija boi myself) to play for Manchester United? Can't think of any in the past
Does Mikel count? I guess not as he never actually played a game for us.

It is odd... Surely it can't be THAT difficult to buy/loan players

Better than nothing or strikes of desperation?

Not sure how to feel about this transfer if it happens. Yes we need the numbers but just getting anyone in isn't the same thing, we already have lingard for making up the numbers.

Yeah he did seem to fall of the radar, but I just seen though he was top goalscorer last season at african cup of nations, which is pretty decent I guess.
I'm not sure that is a particularly high standard overall though, I mean I recall Gervinho shining at that competition and looking like a world beater.

I would like to know what people's problem is with a 6 month loan deal.
There's a lmit to how low we can go just to have another body in the squad, plus the worry is that the way we operate he'll score 3 or 4 goals and we'll make it permanent instead of adding real quality in the summer.

I'll be honest i thought this story was a step too far even for our resident kool aid drinkers but apparently not.
Me too but I guess the Bruno stuff has got them wide open.

I don't have a problem with this in a vacuum. It's the shambolic running of the club that has forced us into a situation where we're scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel, desperately looking for anyone with a pulse hours before the deadline that I have a problem with. I imagine it's the same for most in here that are complaining.
That's being wilfully negative. We've made arguably the most exciting signing of any Premier league club. Did people expect us to be making a top drawer forward signing on top of Bruno? A bit of realism would go a long way in here. Chelsea, for example, are possibly in a worse position than us. What have they done over this window?

Need someone in on a loan deal, if Martial gets injured again, we have Greenwood as our only recognised striker at present and the way our luck is at the moment with injuries, wouldn't bet against that one bit.

If we're having to resort to this it's a shambolic state of affairs even if there is nothing to lose in of itself.

He hasn't played proper football for years and when he did he was awful in his last season here. Not only does it show how bad our planning is to start with but our lack of nuance in the market to respond. It's pure panic.

Saying that i still 100% think it's a bullshit story.

He went to China for the money he was absolutely fine when he played here. Perfect 6 month signing at late notice. We need a body I don’t know why you people can’t see that. It doesn’t matter who it is.

And Barcelona. Clearly the striker market in January is very difficult.

Can't believe I'm going to be disappointed if we miss out on signing Ighalo.

He was top scorer in last summers AFCON which isn’t too shabby.

Exactly. Us, Spurs, Chelsea and Barca all looking for a striker. We look like the only one with any chance of getting one even on loan.

Not for me there isn't. You have no idea how low i'd go just to see us to steal top 4.

True. But we also signed Falcao in a summer transfer window despite coming back from a serious injury and hardly played. At least Ighalo has found his form again, albeit in a much weaker league, he's confident and should deliver in a short term window. Also don't get this pride thing.. Spurs apaprently also wanted him, but got rejected for some reason (apparently). It's time to stop acting like top dogs, we aren't anymore.

For a 6 month loan no it doesn’t. If he comes in and scores 5 goals that contributed towards top 4 or EL it’s worth it. It has literally zero impact on long term planning which has already proven itself to be more coherent (Maguire, AWB, Bruno). And he was fine.

It's a complete low risk move to get someone in so we don't have to play 10 or so games with 2 strikers... Who will both have to start games at the same time

Absolutely mind boggling that anybody has a problem with a 6 month loan when we have martial and an 18 year old to get us through 3 competitions.

Were not building our future around the guy for christ sake. And we're not splurging 40m on a panic buy.

The spin on this forum would make any politician blush.

Mental really

Though I think the complaints are in the general planning rather than the player himself.

We knew as soon as Rash got injured we needed something.

No room for common sense. They’d rather go ballistic when our current two striking options get injured and/or are struggling due to being overplayed.

Against Burnley we needed a goal and we only had Lingard and Shaw to come on as subs. A striker is much needed, it's of course mismanagement it has come to this,.but at this stage I'm refreshing at an alarming rate hoping we bring him in.

Imagine people being pissed off that the club had not planed since summer to sign a forward in Jan when it knew it had a shortage especially when Martial got injured. Spin ey

Nowt wrong if we get him. Will take some of the burden off Martial and Greenwood. Probably should have done it as soon as Rashford was injured. I hope it goes over the line...would have preferred King though.

Not who everyone was expecting, but we can't really go wrong with a loan. Worse case scenario he's awful and goes at the end of the season, where we get a permanent striker in. Or, he could add a bit of that experience in and around the box and score those scrappy goals that if/when needed.

I hear dion Dublins contract is up for renewal with homes under the hammer, maybe tempt him back with a loan if it doesn't matter who it is we get?

Seriously though we do need a striker but this guy isn't the answer. I will happily be proven wrong but to leave it this late to make a move for him seems like the club is saving face, and when it doesn't go through, woody can say that at least we tried.
