The first two episodes were really good but the problem is they already covered (not really book spoilers but I'll spoiler it anyway)

half the book - the good half. I'm not sure how they'll do another eight episodes with the shitty second half.

Yeah this is pretty great... between this and Sharp Objects, it looks like HBO have knack for the murder mystery genre.

Does this show have horror/paranormal stuff in it? Thinking about watching this with my wife but she's not into those type of shows.

Yes, it's a murder-mystery detective show mixed with typical Stephen King supernatural elements. Not really a horror but it is pretty grim and unnerving. Think True Detective kinda vibes.

3 episodes in.

Thought it was a crime type show something like true detective but it appears to be going down the supernatural line.

Will have to see how it ends up but thats not really my thing.

The first three episodes are good but I feel like they have given all the answers already. I am hoping that is not the case.

I think you made this point in the book thread, or some Stephen King thread. I fully agree, once some of the questions get answered I went from loving it to forcing myself to get to the end. I haven’t started watching the show yet but I hope they manage to circumvent the quality drop.

Couple episodes in and enjoying it so far. So who's the creepy dude in the hoody? Looks like he's got a face to rival the elephant man's so not sure how he's always going unnoticed in a crowd.

Can HBO just make all the shows from now on. They are way to consistent in making great shows. Wish they could pull a Disney and buy every show. Imagine The Walking Dead done by these guys. Proper quality.

Everyone up to date? I'm quite enjoying this I must say. Great cast and creepy atmosphere. Cynthia Erivo has the plum role. I thought her relationship with the yocal cop was quite sweet.

Did you watch Mr. Mercedes? My only issue is that Justine Lupe played Holly better in that (for me, anyway)

I'm not sure what to think of it, it has all the great production values, acting, soundtrack etc. of a HBO show but after the breakneck speed of the first two episodes (which covered over half of the book) it's gotten incredibly slow. Feels like the last three episodes could've been condensed into one, and as someone who has read the book, they don't have an awful lot left to fill out another five episodes.

Plus, it's one of King's shittest books, they'll need to really mix things up for the last five episodes to avoid them being as shite as it.

No I've not watched that or read the book of this/that/whatever. I do agree the pace has slowed after the first 2 though. I feel like we're waiting on another murder to happen now to drive it forward again.

Losing Jason Bateman's character in Episode 2 didn't help the pace much either. That was surprising.

Was halfway through the 5th episode, when I got impatient and read the plot in the Wikipedia article for the book. Completely lost interest now in finishing the show.

Very good. It’s based on a Steven King novel so making the supernatural element obvious early on wasn’t a surprise because most people already guessed it anyways

My favourite show(along with Curb......) on TV at the moment, with a murderers row of great acting talent but here's the thing, I'm not sure if it's really good.

It has gone downhill badly since the first two episodes which were very good. Since then it has just spun its wheels and tried to be creepy with the constant use of ominous music.

First 2 episodes were very good. Downhill since then but sticking with it to see how it ends. That other cop is getting to much screen time

Something's gone wrong with the pacing. The cops are too bland to have so much screen time, which means there's lots of repetition pretending to be atmosphere/character development, but failing to make you care about the characters or the victims.

Latest episode was better than last week's, at least some kind of tension is building again. I'm still watching, I'm even still hoping that it's building up to a strong run in.

I'm enjoying it but it feels like a mystery show that reveals most of the good stuff at the start instead of the end, so now we're just kinda waiting for it to end already. Maybe I'm wrong and something interesting will happen at the end, though.

Probably because the covered over half the book in the first two episodes, the good half of the book.

I think it's generally been a bit shite since then. All the trademarks of a good HBO show in terms of acting, cinematography, budget etc. but the plot itself is terrible and slow and just more and more dull as you go along.

It's a weird show... the first episode was of such ridiculous high quality, and then everything else has never got anywhere near as good. Some flashes here and there but overall - whilst i'm still enjoying it - it is all a bit disappointing. 10 episodes is way too much - think they could have easily had 6 to tell a tighter story, and would solve the pacing issues.

But yeah, suppose it'll always have that first episode ... reminds me a bit of "The Night Of" in that regard.

Don't know about the pacing issues and being too slow you all are talking about, I rarely watch slow stuff recently, but this show just literally flew by for me.

Started really well then went to shit, I’ve not even bothered watching the last 2 episodes.
