But assuming you have a PS4 and like 3rd person action games
- Bloodborne
- Dark Souls 3 + 1(remaster)
- God of War
- Red Dead Redemption
- Dying Light
- Nioh
- Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
- Uncharted Games
- Witcher 3

PC
- Cities: Skylines (Sim City, just good)
- Divinity 2
- And Warhammer: Total War 1+2 if you like grand startegy. Its like Rome/Medieval, just with monsters and magic. Some think its silly, but it actually adds a lot of depth to the gameplay. Every other Total war game its just archers/artillery behind infantry then try and flank them with cavalry

I'm thinking you may be better off avoiding my suggestions henceforth. I've become very fussy about games in recent years, leaving a lot of games part way once I'm bored with them. Hitman was another one I liked for 4-5 hours but got a bit bored of the formula. The first few missions were great though so if you don't mind more and more of that then it's a solid buy.
Not at all - I love all the suggestions! Without this thread, I wouldn't have got into Witcher 3. Incredible game! Thanks in advance for all the great insights.

I second Hitman. It's well made and immersive. The missions are challenging but it's not a game you would play for long periods as it's just well, completing missions. I found it enjoyable to play parts on and off.

I haven't played Watch Dogs but I would recommend to stay away as it's made by a poor developer.

What kind of games do you like in general?

My most enjoyable game on ps4 to date has been Bloodborne by far. Have you played that yet? You can pick it up for dirt cheap nowadays.
I've heard Bloodborne is great. My issue is that I'm fairly useless - think of me as the Bebe of gaming, and I've heard that game is very difficult. Should I give it a shot?

Just bought Red Dead Redemption 2. Can't wait to get started! My favourites since I got into this a few years ago: Batman (Arkham Asylum/City/Knight); the Uncharted series, The Last of Us; The Witcher 3; The Tomb Raider games (didn't like the most recent one); Horizon Zero Dawn; God of War (didn't love it as much as others did, but still very good.) I've started Shadow of Mordor, but need to get back into it.

Yes. Its the game of the decade imo.

The difficulty can seem off putting at first, but once you master the controls and the combat and you finally kill that boss that have been stomping you, there very few games that can match that feeling.

Also the atmosphere and art direction is amazing.

I'm not going to lie, it is difficult, you WILL die A LOT at the start. But if you are patient and willing to put the time in to learn, just like anything you will get used to it eventually.

What you will get is an excellent story set in a Lovecraftian universe, full of mystery and lore. FromSoftware are the best developer in the business in my view.

I'd say give it a go and see what you think. You can pick a used copy up on eBay for ~£10 which is a steal.

Here's some more story oriented games that I would recommend too:

  • Everybody's Gone To The Rapture
  • What Remains of Edith Finch
  • Batman The TellTale Series
  • Tales from Borderlands
  • Journey
  • Grim Fandango Remastered (Old school pc point & click)

Just be aware that's not a game. It's an interactive story. A decent one though, but only get it for dirt cheap.

Also Bloodborne is one of the games of the PS4, however if you aren't really a gamer and interested in dedicating time to really mastering a game, then it's not really one for casuals as you will get frustrated every step of the way ;)

If you like No man´s sky, minecraft, etc. I would suggest Subnautica.
Everything happens underwater and you have to pick up things to craft. I just got the submarine. Would you recommend any game like that?
I read about "the forest" and "the long dark", are they good?

Yeah I heard it's more story, but quite a compelling one at that. I also really enjoyed Until Dawn.

Are you out of the snow yet? The forests are incredible at night.
Not yet - I'm at the part where they are on the cliff looking down on their enemies (Colm...forget his name.) About to head down.

Ok more questions (sorry if I’m being annoying!) Days Gone! Far Cry 5? I tried Far Cry 4 and didn’t like it, for what that’s worth

Ok guys, time for me to consult you all again. The Playstation store has a deal for Fallout 4 and Skyrim together ($50.) Should I get it? I don't know anything about either game, so feedback would be most welcome.

Skyrim is the better of the 2,though that's not to say F4 doesn't have some merit.
Abit of a odd deal though, largely because both are very time consuming games.

That is barely even worthy of being called a deal. Neither game is discounted on Steam right now and they'd cost €45 combined... Console gamers are shafted with prices.

If you enjoy exploring for the sake of it, crafting, and modding your games to high heaven but don't care much about quality story, writing, and characters then go for them. They are fine games in their own way.

They're both very time consuming games. Skyrim is the better of the two imo but Fallout 4 can be fun as well. You can easily put 100+ hours into both. If you've got the time then they're both worth it, but they aren't games you can just play for an hour now and then.

Is Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order worth it even if I don't like Souls game and couldn't bring myself to endure more than 3 hours in DS3 ? I have been hearing mixed opinions about it.

No. Its popular because its Star Wars, other than that its painfully mediocre. Combat feels sluggish and unresponsive and there is barely any strategy besides counter attacking. You have some force powers, but they are more for show and dont really do much. Very little exploring to do as most areas are locked behind time gated force powers, and 90% of the stuff you find are just cosmetic items anyways.

It has good production value though, voice acting, music and graphics are all top notch

If you are looking for a quality action game (assuming you have PS4) try Nioh instead. The story if you even can call it that is cheesy as fecking hell, but the combat is incredibly satisfying and pretty challenging

That's not a good deal. Fallout 4 is cack. Skyrim was great back in the day, but is showing it's age now. Neither are really worth it unless you have a lot of time to pump into them. They really shouldn't be costing that much combined.

I don't like Souls games, but still finished it. That being said, it is quite possibly the most mediocre game I've ever played. Nothing about it is particularly good, but it's not a bad game either. Although it is buggy and can be frustratingly fidgety. If you're going to buy it wait for a big discount. It's just so average. It's basically parts stolen from better games and done to an average standard. I really can't emphasise enough how middle of the road and average it is. Did I mention it's mediocre?

Thanks mates! Seems like a proper skip for me for now. Was just searching for something to play as the start of this year has been a slow one compared to previous year in terms of games.

@Bobcat Yes I have PS4. Do you think I'll enjoy Nioh even if I don't like Souls games that much ? BTW feels good to discuss something else other than football. :D

Yeah this year has been terrible so far. I was looking forward to Pillars of Eternity 2 on console, but it's turned out to be a hot mess. I don't think there's anything else I want until April except maybe The Division 2 DLC.

I'm sure this year will turn on great once the big titles start rolling but the start has been pretty slow so far. Last year started much faster and big titles were rolling in first 3 months

Well it depends really. Personally i love Dark Souls, but other than both being 3rd person action games, the similarities stop there really. I know it was on sale for dirt cheap some time ago but i am not sure now. Of course God of War is quality if you have not played it yet

Agreed on that bolded part

I played God of War for sure. Magnificent game.

Will try Nioh then. Thanks. Hopefully it turns out being good for me. :D

I'm waiting on Cyberpunk but there's nothing else I really want to play at the moment. Feel like I should start another Witcher 3 play through.

Is the latest COD any good?

By this point last year I think we had already had RE2 and Divison 2 which was excellent on release, it only fell apart in the end game. Metro Exodus wasn't far off either.

I think RE3 will be great, just biding my time until then bouncing between Witcher 3 and my backlog. Wouldn't be a problem if Pillars of Eternity 2 wasn't a mess.

Doom hasn't gotten enough mentions imo. That was pretty great.
I'd be kind of surprised if you couldn't get Skyrim for 15-20 quid. Was brilliant when released but showing its age at this point. Fallout 4 was just ok. 50 for both just sounds expensive.

Some of my current games:

Fifa 20- goes without saying
Hitman- good game but there’s a part that I’m stuck on
Grim fandango- really good game if you like adventure-story kind of games
Assassins creed odyssey- started it and it’s pretty good but have leant it to a friend at the moment
Detroit become human- pretty cool
Bully- Originally a ps1 game but it’s called something else on the ps4, it’s a Latin phrase I believe, but yeah good game haven’t finished it though
SpiderMan- again, good adventure game
COD- goes without saying

Good list. Although I couldn't put down spiderman once I started playing it. Amazing game.

I wouldn't go for it. The main question is whether you like open world RPGs that you can sink yourself into but also consume a lot of your time in order to complete.

As for the quality of those games, Skyrim was very good for it's time. But I can't say how well it has aged considering others have done what it did, better. At the very least, I imagine it'll be a good time (but not worth that price given how old it is). Fallout 4, on the other hand, was absolutely terrible. The series is set in a post apocalyptic world, and the best way to describe it's universe is just that - dead. Nothing open world. Nothing story. A lot of missions for the sake of it. A lot of space for the sake of it. Bland, stale game.

I'm confused between Outer Worlds, Outer Wilds and Resident Evil 2. I'm thinking one of the first 2 as I already have Nioh and Monster Hunter as my 'intense' games.

Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is a game I've been meaning to check out.
