Brandon Williams is better than Luke Shaw

A little under 1 month later and shaw is back to being better than Williams. This place....

Class is permanent. If shaw can stay fit and focused then he’s potentially a good international level player. Brandon has qualities that can push shaw out of the team if his level drops, as it should be in every big team. Everyone is mad to rip into our players after a bad month. Dross, deadwood etc. One thing I will say is I like shaw but I don’t know if he offers enough offensively long term.

Williams looks to have potential but we need to see more, and on a consistent basis. I remember thinking Tyler Blackett looked the real deal, and then Paddy McNair, but it didn't work out that way.

Last season, he made a few cameos and didn’t score.

Oh and also when he didn’t score against City this season
It'd be great to see some direct quotes?

People can be too sensitive whenever someone who dares to give constructive opinions on our youngsters in player performances threads, we might as well get rid of it completely if people can only comment on their good performances

This is the same when fans compare strikers like Giroud with some pacey striker who barely scores.
Shaw is doing his job without too much fuss. Fans love Williams because he is everywhere and playing with amazing passion. But lots of times he does bad things. He misses tackle, he is beat by player, loses ball while trying to dribble and things like that.
We need better than Shaw but Williams is far from that( at this moment of course).

Williams attacks better alone with his energy and run, but he is still too rash at times because of his age. Shaw has always been more reliable as part of defensive/attacking unit for the team.

This has been a fair topic, I've changed my mind on who's better, when Shaw plays in a 3 as a left sided cb he's been miles better, he was today again , and in mid week. It's just great we got 2 players at the same level and Williams will like Shaw push each other to keep them on top form, it's only a massive plus moving forward.

Yeah, I still stand by this:

Shaw's better in the defensive phase.

Shaw's still better in the transition/build-up phase, though Williams is good there himself.

Williams is better in the final third, but he isn't that good there yet; Shaw's just really bad unfortunately. Potentially Williams could be really good, though.

Overall, Shaw's still a lot better, imo.

Just goes to show what a bit of healthy competition can do. We've largely had aboluste dross down the left flank the last few seasons, and Shaw was there merely by default of being the least likely to be terrible.

Looks like Williams has sparked Shaw to up his game a level, he's been brilliant since the break. I feel for Shaw at times. Ignoring TAA for a second, what full backs are performing to a high level that are around his age or younger?

I feel like full back is one of those positions where experience is key, and the real top ones usually emerge around 26/27. The one thing that keeps me optimistic is that the core age of this team in a couple of years should be around the 26/27 mark. I hope the likes of Shaw, Martial, Rashford, Lindelof, Fred will be really hitting their prime around then, with the likes of Greenwood and Williams offering real quality in squad depth.

This thread is laughable and another example of people getting carried away with our youth. One person said that he believes Brandon Williams will be better than Philipp Lahm.

I'm very happy with Shaw's form and I hope he will keep it up. But it will always be tough to forget the footage of Shaw vs Brighton and other times earlier in this year where his effort was flat out pathetic. I remember texting friends that I hope he never plays for United again. I'm happy to be proved wrong.

Why is this meme that shaw is slow still being peddled? He was one of the fastest players in the league before his leg break and is still rapid

We all know he is rapid.

With that tank of a body, he can be a beast. Here's hoping, never gave up on Shaw.

Hes picked his game up massively since the emergence of Williams. Hes the perfect example of the need to have cover/competition for every position.

Williams seems to have some potential. But, we have to be careful with hyping young players. The 2nd season is usually the indicator for them if they are going to make it. I would wait until next season.

I have someone keep mentioned me in his thread whenever Williams had a good game because I said he needed to develop on his own pace and Shaw should still be the first choice.

Nope, not even close..,Luke Shaw is streets ahead of him.I honestly think that there’s too much of hype around Brandon...He’s a decent player but I don’t see the composure, intelligence and quality that a top full back needs to succeed in the PL.On too many occasions he just looks like a headless chicken....

So true, he's started to go on a lot more runs now too, whether he's a third CB or LB. It's definitely given him the kick up the ass that was needed.

Credit to Shaw who is arguably playing the best football of his Utd career. Williams has promise and is better with his weaker foot. Time will tell. I stand corrected as I thought Shaw waas finished and Williams was his read-made replacement. Shaw before Williams at the moment.

It’s like people forget he was our player of the year last year and put in many performances like yesterday. Wouldn’t even say that’s the best he’s played but it was damn good.

I've come around to the idea that Luke Shaw is just a very limited full-back. Defensively he's pretty good, going forward he's a liability. At the moment you can probably say the opposite for Brandon Williams, but he's definitely shown glimpses of being a top class full back.

I think the main issue with Luke Shaw has always been since his leg break, not sure if its a mental thing or what, but I think it's effected him and his game ever since, because before that he looked like he was going to go on to be extremely good and we looked to have a good partnership going down the left with him and Depay. I mean he's still only 24, if anything he would be good backup to keep around for many years if Williams ends up surpassing him

Williams has not looked as good playing the wing back role. Seems him and Shaw get confused as to who is playing LB. I think he also had a left winger role when we played with 4 at the back but I don’t recall the match. I expect Williams to get plenty of minutes the rest of the season and have more next, at least if Ole is still manager. I’d say they’re neck and neck for me over choice at the moment. Neither are doing a bad job.

Shaw has done really well of late in a back 3, saved us a few times yesterday.
