I thought we controlled the game 1st half and defended really well 2nd half. Both of which are reasons to be cheerful

The forwards didn't do enough 2nd half though.

I found it amazing that for the players lauded as comfortable with the ball at their feet, De Gea, Lindelof and Maguire are fecking nervous on the ball. Watford game and this, playing from the back is becoming more dangerous and more nervous to them as the game went on.
There are moments in Watford game that got me thinking, better team will punish this tic tack between the three of them.
Lindelof isn't the best partner for Maguire, he'll do better as his backup. We still need a commanding centerback, a Vidic type of defender to complement Maguire.

Also, Fred is doing my head in. Lost too many balls and I still don't see what everyone is praising about his passing range
De Gea has never been lauded at being good with the ball at his feet and Maguire was motm yesterday so not sure what the hell you're on about.

On the day of the match, our players, man for man, were better than Everton's, yet they came very close to winning that match (VAR saved us).
Given this, had Ancelotti been managing us, we'd have won that match. And this is the very reason why we should not be scared to fire the worst manager in the EPL. Had we had the balls to fire him a few months back, Ancelotti may have joined us and we'd absolutely make top 4 this season, with a view to doing something special next season.

With Ole in charge, next season will also be a write-off. In fact every season that he is managing us, will be written off.
Even the PR campaign is about us being shit now, but being good in future. This enables Ole and Woodward to keep their positions, while we continue to regress.

they had 13 corners and we dealt with them all very well, which is encouraging.
We should be the ones attacking them, having 20 corners! And if we fail to score, they should be the ones who say, "we dealt with their corners".
I can't believe standards have dropped to this level that we are now claiming to have done well, to prevent them from winning the match.

Any elite level manager, with 2 weeks training with our squad would've most likely have won that game. Our squad is superior. We have one of the most in-form No.10s on the face of this planet and we barely scraped through with a draw.

What a rubbish premise. Should Liverpool sack Klopp and appoint Pearson, because he got a good result against them on one day with worse players? Talk about knee-jerk.

Let's look at the game in a complete vacuum. We'll disregard that United played a European game 3 days beforehand, or that we had 2 more games than them in February. We'll also disregard that we gave them, the home side by the way, a head start with a stupid early goal?

God.

Then Maguire and Lindelof should stop fecking around and passing him the ball at every opportunity then.
Obviously Maguire has been better last night. But him, Lindelof and De Gea passing between them at matches before this has given me heart attacks

Matic, Mctominay and Fred play at their best in a midfield 2. If we play a diamond, at least 2 of our midfielders will feel uncomfortable.

Because we drew away to Everton? This fan base is pathetic.
Because we built up points, only to lose 2 points against a team that we should be trying to beat in order to pursue 4, especially with other teams around us losing points. How many times have we failed to close to gap? One word: Numerous

Now we have City and Spurs next and we will need to take points of them to keep up with the top 4 chase.

Look at the bigger picture and learn to stop calling a fan base pathetic. Thanks

Not really 2 steps back if the gap is the same with a difficult away game out of the way.

Wolves gained points on us and are level. I will count Wolves a threat to top 4, personally.

Gap is the same with one less game to play in the pl, and look at the fixtures: Chelsea's next two games Everton home, Aston villa away compared to our two games are a lot easier. They can increase the gap further (even though we're really lucky they've been as inconsistent as us and can only hope they continue - which I hate). Why put ourselves in that position of having to pull out something against City and Spurs?

We really need to get the wins rolling or we are not getting top 4 and Everton was a potential banana skin that we failed to win - second half we should have done a lot of better in getting that win, but played terrible, it's these type of games that we need to win or we just ain't getting fourth.

Pretty sure if you asked the forum after the Burnley result that it would trigger an 8 match undefeated run everyone here would be delighted. Everton away is a very tricky game for us right now so avoiding defeat was a very good result in context of this Season.

We have 2 more tricky fixtures in the PL and we can then focus down on trying to wrack up the wins. Stay within touching distance of Chelsea and Leicester by end of gameweek 30 and although it'll go down to the wire we'll have a very good shot at Top 4. Wolves are the real concern for me as they're in form and have a relatively easy fixture list.

As for the Everton game, excellent first half after a disaster of a start, 2nd half was disappointing, but we did at least defend set pieces very well. Still a decent result for us ultimately.

Leicester just lost to Norwich. Chelsea dropped points yet again (we also beat them 3 times this season) but no we have no chance of top 4.

We have quality players to comeback too. To say we have no chance of top 4 is pathetic. Get a grip.

Get a grip? Thanks for taking that slightly out of context
I didn't say we have no chance of top 4, I said if we continue failing to capitalise then we won't reach top 4. :houllier:

To do that, we need to beat teams like Everton regardless if you think it's hard fixture or not.

Oh and I also think it's naive of you and others keep assuming others will drop points again and again, they may or may not. We need to look at winning and concentrate on ourselves.

Tell you what, our next two fixtures vs Chelsea next fixtures, we will see the points then and then it'll us if a draw at Everton was good enough.

You said we are never getting top 4. It’s easy to change your argument half way through.

We have every chance given how shit Chelsea and Leicester have been, with us getting players back and now Bruno in the mix.

Mata coming on marked the end of the chance for a win. I use to love how he would play for us and remember waiting him to be played as a 10 but it’s not there anymore. Maybe he could still play in Italy or Spain

I prefer the diamond with two strikers. With Fernandes up top, he has more freedom.

That was quite a ride that game. Either team could have won that but man we could not get the ball back after the 60th minute or so. Subs seemed a bit late as we looked pretty poor most of the second half. But a point at Everton isn't too bad.

I thought that in the first half our midfielders effectively ran the show, especially going forward and the Fernandez goal was a peach. Matic had two thunderous shots on target, (wish he would do more of this) and McTominay competed in every sense of the word. Bruno and Fred seemed to be developing some understanding, although clearly a lot more work on the training ground needed for them to develop that special 'I know what you are about to do' understanding.

However half time came too early and after the break we never really hit the same heights in midfield as we had done in the first half. Everton seized the initiative realised we had 'blown up' and they mounted wave after wave of attacks. Thankfully our two centre backs, especially Maguire, held the Everton hordes at bay and was monumental in defending from corners. Apart from one of two outstanding passages of play involving Bruno, our midfield brilliance of the first half became only a distant memory. The substitutions didn't really help much, but McTominay and Bruno needed a break.

Disappointed with the result, even though the debacle in our box right at the end eventually fell our way, but encouraged by our first half display...except of course De Gea's brain-fart!

I wanted to rewatch the match again to try to get a better understanding of what happened in the 2nd half. Was it tactical, or was it something else. I never found the time, but incidentally Everton have played 33 matches this season and United have played I think 44. Thats a LOT of extra minutes in our players legs, not including internationals. Honestly I think we were just a little out-run and out-fought by a decent side, but for 35 minutes in the first half I thought we put out an extremely encouraging display.

We are so one dimensional. It is the height of idiocy. Everyone knows that we try to play from the back ALL the time. Everyone knows that when we have a corner we try to get it to Maguire ALL the time. Then we try a long ball when the opposing defense push up. It is the individual brilliance of the individual players that have got us to this position.
No other team play like us. They mix things up and work out set pieces and plays. Not us. We are lucky to come away with a point from Everton.
