How I'd love for Atletico to knock them out and the PL (which they won 10 months back) to be the only trophy they win this season.

But I think they are favourites to go through. Atletico are pretty terrible this season. Would be a big upset for them to win the tie.

With them having such a comfortable lead in the league and the treble still on, why would they not put out their strongest team? Id rotate for the Bournemouth game, not this one. I’m still annoyed at the Portsmouth game but at least we had the excuse of the champions league tie and league to fight for still.

It's the FA cup!

It's way down on our list of priorities. I was amazed at the strength of the side we put out tonight considering the last round.

The League, Champions League and Club World Cup are the priority this season.

It's sad to say but the FA cup is barely even relevant anymore.

I bet most United fans would take 4th place over winning the cup?

Not sure a fan has ever jinxed a club's perfect winning run before.

Well done, Darragh!

Haha great mentality there. You've won the league. You should be pushing for the treble but klopp got a hard on for the unbeaten record

Not only is that a disrespect to the competition but also to the kids who won it for you in the last round while the first team was enjoying a winter break in sunny Dubai while taking part in two glorified FIFA friendlies.

I bet we would’ve put out a strong team if we were 22 points ahead of the fifth placed team.

What a ridiculous post. You can’t put out a strong team because your priority is a tournament that ended two months ago? Even after a two week break? Did you also prioritise the 2012 PL race over this year’s FA cup maybe?

Opened up a can of worms for yourself there..

World Club Cup ranks higher than the F.A. Cup?

There must be a thread for that? I can’t even recall it ever being discussed on here?

Missing the invincible record seems to have hit a nerve..

Obviously you can't put an FA CUP badge in the jersey right.
Makes total sense

Liverpool have massively over preformed in the league this season, consistently.

Not that they dont deserve to be on top, they have been the best team this year no doubt, but if you look at the xG table (yeah, yeah i know, RAWKish as feck) they have picked up about 15 more points this season than they "should have" if you go by xG and xGA

Basically they have been second best or equal with their opponents in loads of games, but still managed to take the win home.

As big a fan I am of xG and xGA, I just don't find xPts to be a valid metric as that is based on a second assumption (making an assumption on an assumed value - xG and xGA). They've outperformed their xG and xGA metrics and It's obvious they've had a stroke of luck in quite a lot of games and dont deserve to be on 79 points (lucky point vs us, 3 vs SHU and WHU, Southampton) , but to quantify that number is a bit of a stretch using xPts as that metric mostly works against smaller sides

Remember the debate between Carragher and Keane about this current Liverpool side vs our 99 team? seems even more ridiculous now.

The treble is ON, lads!

3 away games in a row. Pool classic bottle job.

Now just need Simeone to do everyone a favour and kick them out of CL. Come on Atleti!

I was genuinely worried they could do the treble this season. The way they were playing, the spirit, and the way they are getting the rub of the green. So I’m genuinely delighted they went out the cup. They’ll still win the league, almost impossible to feck it up from here. But hopefully they go out of the CL too against Atlético, and the last few months turn into a genuine slog for them.

I get that, and over a couple of games xPts is useless, but whit so many games as data you can start to see a pattern emerge.

Wonder how they will do next season though, are they a spent force or will the continue to dominate?

Depends on how they are able handle their injuries. They have been super lucky with them this season, with their core of the team - Mane,Salah, Firmino, VVD, Alisson, Robertson and TAA - playing together for almost all the matches, along them to be able to build a good chemistry. It's like us being able to play our strongest team with Pogba, Rashford, Martial, Mctominay, Fred, Maguire for 90% of our games.

Robbie savage put the kiss of death on them. He was just about to proclaim them the greatest english team ever on saturday with just a formality of the treble to complete.

Over to atletico to knock em out now and we can relax.

I doubt that they can replicate the form and that'd be more because their xG numbers aren't justifying this points tally (not in terms of deviation but the absolute number as well).

The hilarious thing, is that Klopp was actively looking to get knocked out earlier on. But last night he was trying to win, having realised a treble may be on.

A single league won't get you into an all time great it'll always sit below doubles and trebles. You had a great chance for a treble, basically being able to rest plAyers for the last 6-8 games in the league most likely. Instead you need to get your heads back on to not go out in europe and have what will be a strange last ten games despite winning the league.

This season is that team’s peak. Klopp’s run them into the ground and they’ll splutter home now.

If they don’t refresh the squad, they’re showing the hallmarks of going the way of Poch’s Spurs. Rebuilding job is now on.

And before any Scousers reply, remember we know what successful teams who come to the end if their cycle look like and the traits they show, we had about four to five of them during Fergie. Your last one was what, 30 years ago?

They'll be a threat next season and the favourites. But they definitely won't be as dominant and you'd have to think us, City and Chelsea will be far bigger threats. Though I suspect it'll still be a two-horse race between Liverpool and CIty come the end.

Yoy can't do the treble without the FA Cup. It might not be the standalone competition it used to be, but as part of the set, it is non negotiable as a compound of the greatest feat a club side can achieve in a calendar season.

You've now lost that chance and who knows when you'll get it again.
