For the Caf Spanish speakers, this is a GREAT interview with Diego

Diego's stories about Keano having to calm HIM down (ha!) after Ruud moaning to Ferguson, Scholes (el Colorado) being the best player, and Scholes always being allowed to go home after a week on the pre-season tours are all great stories.

I always had a soft spot for Diego. Another right player at the wrong time. He speaks so well about the club and the culture around the club at the time. A great listen.

I agree. He is very likeable. Right player at the wrong time sadly.

I think I have said it a few times on here but he was with us about 4 years too early.

He played in a side that was set up for RVN and it just didn’t suit him at all. The dynamic free form attack we developed into a few seasons later when Ruud had gone and we no longer expected our strikers to play off the last defender’s shoulder would have suited Forlan so well.

Would have been a legend here if he came to us after like said above. Needed one more move before ours.

For a man who was only at the club for two years, he'll always have that moment at Anfield in which I still remember quite fondly.

I think we were the only club who didn't see the best of him, cracking player and one of the very best strikers in the world during the 2010 World Cup

I have terrible memory but I thought it was strange to sell him after the improvement and productivity he showed?

He was a physical beast that was playing like a child on steriods i.e very eager and light on composure but he had all the right attributes to be a good team player.

I've been learning Spanish for about two weeks, I've got a long way to go before I can understand this. I'll bookmark it for later.

Iirc we already bought Smith and Saha. Smith was a hot prospect and available on the cheap while Saha was banging in goals for Fulham.

Shame both of them turned out to be flops while Forlan became a legend. He was such a beast.

Made the scousers cry

Forlan was a similar player to Saha as well. Certainly in terms of two feet and mobility. Imagine Forlan and Rooney. But I guess Ruud was still a strong presence in those years.

Saha when fit was an unstoppable beast. His peak year with United was 2006-07 and he scored some really important goals. I don’t remember Forlan having such an impact for a longer period. Saha for me was a better player than Forlan.

P.S. 2006-07 was the best premier league season for me, all the talent was being stolen by Chelsea and we only signed Carrick. Ronaldo Rooney came of age and we won the league by fighting our arses out. Saha was integral part of early flying start of the season.

Was that the season with Fulham as the opening game 4-0?

It was 4-0 in first 20 minutes i think and Chris Coleman predicted immediately that this is a team going to be the champions.

Saha a better player than a two time Golden Shoe winner and Best Player at the World Cup?
Saha wasn't a flop.
Saha flops?
He was unlucky with injuries and barely played but if Saha wasn't a flop I don't know who is.

You don't understand the definition of the term Flop.

You don't flop by having injury problems. That is just called being unlucky for the player and the club.

In terms of what they showed at United, Saha was a much stronger player than Forlan. The fans were frustrated he coulnt stay fit because he demontrated how destructive a player he was. Nobody and I mean nobody ever to my mind called him a flop at the time. Many though saw Forlan that way irrespective of what he accomplished after in a different league and internationally.

Let's be honest, player is no good if he can't even make it to the training ground, nevermind the pitch.

On his day Saha was as good as any forward but its impossible to judge when he barely played. Also well known that he didn't want to play out of fears of injuring himself when he was clearly fit.

Forlan have shown himself to be the better player, have a better career and made himself a football legend. Its no comparison really.

Whether or not Forlan had a better career vs Saha is fairly irrelevant to United fans. Saha has always been rated here and did the business on the pitch when he wasn't injured. You are the first person I can remember who is talking somewhat negatively about him for something he had little control over. Injury.

Forlan on the other hand was considered a flop at United. On the pitch he often looked a rabbit in the headlights and not ready for a club of our size or playing style. What he did at Villareal and Athletico after is not very relevant in this regard. Though perhaps tellingly he never played for one of Europe's super teams after us.

You need to stop tilting at windmills and creating imaginary arguments, I'm not even comparing their time with us. This was my original post where I was looking their overall career in retrospective:

Forlan flopped with us, I don't think anyone can dispute that. It is also understandable that you don't think Saha flopped with us. Everyone has a different idea on what is a flop but I can't see why he can't seen as one considering the fact he was so injury prone and barely played. He wasn't even some bargain transfer too.

You can look at my previous posts. I've always rated Saha as a player.

I am sure we could settle this all easily over a pint but its the nature of football forums. You rate Saha. I rate Saha. So we woulf get there in the end.

Of course when you use words like 'flopped' and 'legendary' it gets people interested. Because not often those words are used with those players in those contexts.

He was way off being a flop. Saying Smith was a flop is also harsh. Never read such rubbish on the Caf.

Forlan is likeable as always.
