I have just learnt that Alan Green contact with the BBC is not being renewed.
While I know that he can divide opinion, he is and has been easily the most interesting and passionate football commentators on the radio.

If anyone disagrees with this view, just listen to his commentary of the Chelsea champions league final when Didier Drogba was about to take the winning penalty.

GO ON DIDIER..
He is one of the very few on the radio who can really bring a game to life.

From now on, I will stop listening to the BBC and instead listen to Talk Sport.

In 2004, Green was censured by Ofcom after he made a comment live on-air about Manchester United's Cameroonian midfielder Eric Djemba-Djemba speaking pidgin English with the referee. Green said that Djemba-Djemba was saying "me no cheat" to the referee. A listener complained that it was inappropriate to suggest a black man was unable to speak grammatical English.[19][20] Green had previously described Manchester City's Chinese defender Sun Jihai as wearing shirt "Number 17 – that'll be the Chicken Chow Mein, then" during a live radio broadcast.
His career in broadcasting shouldn't have lasted as long as it did.

He follows narratives and not the matches. He lets personal bias colour his commentary and is shit for it

Established Man United hater. He’s a prick.
Well I have listened to him commentate on dozens of Manchester United games on the radio and apart from a so called spat with SAF, I have never had the impression that he hated the club.

In fact, he was highly critical of the football played during José Mourinho era as a sad reflection of a once great football club.

Amazed someone like him lasted so long.

Reminds me of the dreadful days pre streams and having to endure him.
If not anti us it was moaning about how crap the game was.

Agreed. There are times where he just randomly starts talking shit or ranting in the middle of the match instead of describing what's happening... Oh it's a corner

I reckon you invest in a television, they are all the craze
Quite agree.
And the standard of commentator's on TV is terrible. Hence why I used to enjoy listening to him on the wireless.

Have you actually listened to the Drogba penalty?

He's a whiny cnut who hates football.

Listen to any of his commentaries and all you hear is him talking about how shit he thinks the game is. He adds nothing to the matches he covers.

Mozart’s Symphony No. 40; Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy; Alan Green’s commentary when Didier Drogba took a penalty...

True. I find it's often triggered by if a player goes down easy. He bangs on about it for the rest of the game. A constant barrage of "Oh get up" after every foul. He's a grumpy, joyless shite, akin to Mark Lawrenson.

Even as a fellow countryman from N.Ireland I just can't stand this guy.
Liverpool and Linfield fan and so bitter, especially as he got older.
Talksport are welcome to him as they seem to have all the rubbish pundits.

Yes I agree commentators in general are woeful at this time.

I can honestly say I’ve never listened to a game on the radio.

100 percent agree. Yes he fell out with Fergie however if you take the red tinted glasses off he’s actually very entertaining and has a certain tone to his voice and can manipulate it to build suspense, certainly within a radio setting.

I love him.
