This won't happen i'm pretty sure of that. We currently have 4 CM's for 2 positions + Garner/Levitt coming through.

Smells of Ajax just trying to force Madrid's hand into keeping their deal.
I reckon Garner's on loan next season - maybe even Levitt.

He will be the end of Lingard’s era at United and I suspect that Andreas is also going. We will recoup most, if not all, of the money spent on Donny from the sales of those two.

Pogba, Bruno, Matic, McTominay, Fred, Van de Beek and the youngsters. Squad rotation and competition for playing time on point.

VDB isn't a classical 10 either.

Pogba/Pereira/Gomes/Lingard or just switch to a 4-3-3 and use Fred/Mctominay/Matic etc

While 50m doesn't sound too bad price wise unless we're clearing out a few players we don't even have space in the squad? Pretty sure we've used up our 25 registered players already.
You get vdb and let go of Pereira, and lingard to create squad space. But the big point as others have said is that after the 20/21 season we could lose Pogba (if he stays beyond this window) Matic and Mata. We would then go into the window with teams knowing of our desperation to fill those wholes. Why not mitigate it before it happens and let go of the fodder like j lingz and Andreas?

Ah we've entered the good old 'preparing a bid' stage

For what it's worth, although I would prefer bringing in a quality DM if we were to sign a midfielder this summer but out of the rumored targets, I'd definitely prefer VDB to Grealish

I would prefer Grealish. He can play as a winger, he knows the prem, and he has some swagger..

Van de beek is a good player, but i think this is a bit. Meeh.

I'd personally do it also but we shall see. Not convinced there's any truth to it myself.

Usually when these sort of rumours come out involved with other clubs it's just to use our name to speed other clubs into action.

VDB has been wanting to go to Madrid all year.

Voetbal International is a seriously reliable outlet in Holland so this is worth taking notice of.

It makes sense that Madrid would be on the outs this summer

They'll have Odegaard and also potentially Ceballos back next season on top of Valverde, Kroos and Casemiro still there so there really wouldn't be room.

If ever he was going to sign for them,it would've been last summer. They also seem to have their sights on Camavinga now

People have been relentlessly complaining about Mata, Lingard and Pereira...well this is it, this is how you replace them all in one go. It's a no brainer to me.

I'm not sure how good he is as a DM or his defensive side, but buying from Ajax always gives me optimism. They have a very cultured way of producing players and Donny at worst could do a Blind here. I loved Daley Blind.

Yeah, Zidane is reportedly not keen on VdB and wants Camavinga since he cannot get Pogba. Camavinga also makes more sense for them since they don't have a replacement for Casemiro.

I said this earlier in the thread. It’s exactly this! Would enable us to trim so much fat from our squad in one go. I’d keep Mata around though

A choice of DVB, Fred, McTominay, Pogba and Bruno to play in 3 positions is very strong. A good combination of goals, creativity and workrate. It might be nice to have a fully fledged DM in there, but there are ways of playing without one, as demonstrated by Liverpool. As long as it doesn't impact the signing of a top class RW then I'm all for this.

I still think I'd prefer Grealish tbh. I can't say I've seen that much of Van De Beek though. Is there that much between them?

I think this will drag out yet, if Villa get relegated, I can see us going for Grealish instead for a cheaper deal.

You missed Matic or was that on purpose?

Also if its true Dortmund aren't prepared to budge much on price for Sancho do you really think we can get both? I don't. Real Madrid not spending at all but we spend upward of 140m seems far fetched beyond imagination to me.

If we sign a centre mid, like VDB, then I fully expect Juve to come in for Pogba.
Tbh if you offered me Sancho n VDB in and Pogba out for next season I'd take it.

Grealish isn't coming cheap. Both will be of the same cost.

Lingard + Pereira started 9 and 18 PL games respectively, yet people are here complaining about us signing a player that is easily better than both of them combined? We have only scored 44 goals this season too, and anyone who watches our games would see that we are in a dire need of creativity in the midfield, especially before Bruno was here. Even with Bruno here, I don't see why we can't have VdB playing. We struggle really bad against teams that plays 10 at the back against us not because our midfield is defensively poor, but simply because we lack any attacking prowess. VdB has very good movement off the ball and has the knack to score goals. He is also very good with his decision making in the final third and tend to have very good games in the important matches. These are all things that would make us a much better team, which is why I fail to understand why so many are against this signing. Yes he might not be the best player to play with in your FIFA games but real life is vastly different from your games.

Kroos will leave.

Pogba,Casemiro,Valverede,DvB,Odegaard - isnt what they were planning ? I know things have changed now means they are probably looking at just Pogba which means we get this guy.

Agreed! One of our major flaw is keep possession. Even OGS said when we take the lead we don't seem to keep hold of the ball and having DVB will help us tremendously.

Further, I remember hearing we was looking for two players to replace Pogba. If we get Grealish and DVB would be very good business in our part.

I don't particularly rate him and I think Ole is looking to replace him anyway.

We've no idea whether Dortmund will budge on Sancho, and an outlay of 130-40m isn't outlandish. We've spent nearly £450m in the last 3 seasons if we include the January transfer window. We've got plenty of players we can sell if we decide we want to keep Pogba.

Very good player, for 40/50 m€ is a bargain.
I don't see Madrid reacting even for that price ,although I have to admit that I thought they had a more solid commitment with the player to come this summer

We are going to lose nearly 100m from covid come the end. That's got to be factored in surely?

I don't think we will get Sancho personally without a major player sale. But like you I'm happy for Pogba to go if he wants out.

It has, which is probably why we've just drawn £140m out of a RCF. If we have the funds available to us, which I believe we do, now would be the perfect time to strengthen our squad when our rivals are keeping their purse strings tight.

I agree with this. With no idea when the crowd will be back. I cannot see the club splashing £100m on a single player.

The last few seasons our net spend has been under £100m. I cannot see us making that many high value sales this summer.

If we get DVB, I think it would be our only signing.

Tend to agree. Although Sancho isn't totally off the cards just yet as if Juve offer us 80m or so for Pogba we could probably still get him.

VDB n Sancho or keep Pogba without him signing a new contract and having to endure another year of will he won't he is a no brainer. If he really wants to go and somebody can stump up the cash then let him leave.
