Would be interesting if Pep got his hands on him.
He is linked to Liverpool and Man City before the pandemic. Let's see what happen this summer.

Edit
I don't remember seeing anything linking him to Man Utd. I only recalled both Pep and Klopp praised his performance after game vs wolves.

Experience isn’t a bad thing and having players entering their peaks is important for any good squad. James is too early in his development and too limited to to be our starting RW he cannot offer a consistent threat to most sides at the moment. Give him 3 years and who knows but I’d quite like someone now given our last quality RW was Nani

It we are talking about the here and now, the observable present, which is what I’m considering James doesn’t offer much beyond pace on the counter. We have found a frustratingly high number of teams unwilling to fall for our countering by defending with a deep block.

I see James improving but not improving his dribbling style to match or come close to Traore. Without that then he must focus on his passing to offer something better. Do you see James becoming a great crosser of the ball or a wide playmaker? Equally it’s not the case that the only way is up. James has a game that relies heavily on explosive actions. One severe hamstring injury and he loses his biggest and most reliable asset. Would a slower James offer anything more than Lingard for example.

I know I’m taking it to an extreme but while I like him as a player and want him to do well at the club we have to be open to the reality that he’s not a constant threat unless we’re allowed to counter. It’s no surprise that our offensive actions are tilted towards our LW.
One big hamstring injury would potentially affect Traores game as much It would James. Yes Traore is a much better player but he would cost a fortune. If we actually are going for sancho I doubt we are going to go for both in the same window. If we couldn’t get sancho this summer I wouldn’t be against taking a punt on Traore or Chiesa and going back for sancho next summer for hopefully a lower fee. We would be well stocked in the RW again finally.

Id agree but Traore would still have strength and outstanding close control to fall back on.

We will buy Sancho this is all theoretical. But I see Traore as a good alternative albeit a very different style of player.

yeah I’m inclined to agree. I wonder would he drive us mad like Nani used to if we had to watch him every week though. Don’t get me wrong Nani was obviously good but he was frustrating too. I wonder can Traore kick on and become one of the best players in his position in the league over a few more seasons. He’s definitely an interesting player. Someone could gamble and win big time backing him to succeed.

IMO he would be very good player as a regular starter for us, he just goes past defenders so easily and he is built like a tank. He cuts inside from both sides, goes to byline and cuts back, he even uses his weaker foot well enough.
Does he make good runs, and how effective is he when there's no space in front of him?

I think those things can be what makes him a starter vs a sub, because he has most other attributes.

He's right footed.
Ah, for some reason I thought he was left footed but I guess that's mainly as he plays on the left that I've seen.

Makes sense though, his crosses are far too good to be a weak foot

The frustration with Nani stemmed from the fact that we knew he could be the most dangerous player on the pitch on his day. And any frustration with Adama i’d imagine would also be along similar lines.
The difference with my frustration with James is that i know how average he is and the constant validation of my opinion of him (as a player) by his performances.

Nothing to do with a system. Troare just has more ability than James. As an individual player he not only bests James at his best attribute (speed) he also has far better attacking abilities all round.

Also this the game you are going on about? At no point does he switch sides and he was wolves most dangerous player. Look how many balls he got into the box. He takes on Williams one on one 4 times and Williams only intercepts once the rest of the time he goes past him. The other times we literally have to put 3 men on him to stop him just having free reign. Imagine us having a player like that which teams have to triple team. Imagine the space the likes of Bruno, rashford, martial and pogba would have when teams are stuck double marking troare.
 Don’t mind him. He doesn’t have a clue about football. He probably actually believes once James gets his 10,000 premier minutes under his belt he’ll develop a trick and be pushing players over like Adama.

A Rashford, Martial, Traore front three could be devastating. I'd take him if we can't get Sancho.

A West Ham fan on Twitter made me laugh after the game. He said Adama Traore would be nothing if he wasn't so fast and skilful.

So if you take away a players two best attributes, they would be ineffective? You don't say!
To be fair he was probably taking the piss

I think with more experience we will see the things that James does well far more often. We will be able to play to his strengths a bit more hopefully and not have to use him in every game. He’s not half as bad as people are making out. He could still turn into a very useful player and he’ll obviously be happy to rotate on either side. He’s a good squad player for us next season.

They are better players with more to their game. Why are you surprised?
The key part about James is his potential ability and his personality.

I think he will improve, and he is given the top facilities, top players around him and most importantly james as a person.

What makes you think his personality is better than the other guys mentioned? Just pointing on that fact as the other guys have better potential.

Why using this game? He just played like a bigger James. Speed merchant basic player.

The Traore/James comparisons are completely useless by the way, as they are completely different types of player.

James might be as fast, or close to as fast, but he will never have Adama's power. James is more of an Aaron Lennon type of player, where I've never really seen anyone as fast AND strong as Traore.

But the cost of Traore simply wouldn't be worth the outlay when we already have James who provides around 70% of what Traore provides, and that too in his first season. Of course, there's always the chance of James regressing as time goes on, but even if he did, his pace would be an absolute weapon off the bench in any case. If he lost his pace, and subsequently his place at Utd, it wouldn't be a big deal because he was a cheap punt.

With Traore, we'd be taking a massive gamble on him considering this has been his first run of sustained form as a professional footballer in the top flight. Furthermore, Traore's productivity right now, at the age of 24, coming on 25, in a system which absolutely suits his strengths, is nowhere near the level required of a starting quality United RW. He'd be a squad player, but would be coming in for a superstar fee.

Whilst I'm a big fan of Traore, using the game against United as a benchmark isn't great.
He was decidedly average that game, I think he managed to get round the back of Williams twice, the rest were poor crosses from relatively deep positions, his balance was poor on that game, and he lost the ball alot!
Still, I'd be happy with him here, but he does remind me a lot of Valencia, very limited in his ability but will give everything to the cause.

His close control is so good but somehow never gets credit as he is way too strong and quick.
Yeah, he's definitely not just a speed merchant. He has great technique. To keep the ball under control at the speed he goes is incredible. Not only that, but even when he's not road runner, he is excellent at shielding the ball, turning away from pressure and can beat players with little space to run into, too.

On top of that, outside of shooting where I still think he's lacklustre, he's got excellent technique when striking a ball. I've not only seen him play so many inch perfect crosses (whether they be cutbacks, floated crosses, or low drilled ones), but some absolutely incredible outside of the foot crosses/over the top through balls, too. Yet this side of his game always goes under the radar.

Yeah, when you think about it, he is sort of complete player but with few rough edges. Nuno has done exceptional job with Adama Traore.

He has!

The two things I think Adama really needs to work on to get to the next level are his finishing and movement. Especially his movement where he just wants the ball to his feet so he can dribble past a whole team, which he can do, and it's fun to watch, but he really needs that diversity because he could be a huge threat running in behind on top of that.

No, the frustration wouldn't be the same, Traore would never be able to perform to the level of Nani.

The frustration would be similar to James, good positions, good pace, breaks down attacks.

Last season I thought he isn't good enough to start and only good as impact sub as he lacks stamina, but his season I'm very much impressed with him. Yeah off the ball is something that he can work on, doubt he will improve much on it as his play style is asking for the ball and then take on players.

If he starts making off the ball runs like Sterling then he would be one of the best attackers in the league.

Wow. The overrating on this forum is incredible.

Potential to be one of the worlds best attackers?

I want what you guys are on. The bloke has had a decent-ish half of a season. Not even one of the best attackers in the league based on this season alone.

Yeah, I reckon you're right about him most likely staying the same in terms of his movement due to his play style.

Because in his first few years in england he really looked like a donkey. The second coming of Denilson

He's matured and become a very effective player

Inter should break the bank for him. He's perfect for them and would take them up a level
Yes and no. He was very frustrating but the talent and potential was 100% there. Little in terms of end product but he was still doing things on a pitch that vast amount of footballers can’t do. When judging young players, it’s very important to look at their skillsets and what they can go on to be.

I don't think it's easy to play the game at the speed he does, the mental side of the game will come with more experience, this is only his first full season in the top flight after all.
I'm not comparing them as they're different players, but I remember people saying the same thing about Bale.
Players I rate in the sense of what they could be

Adama Traoré - He was slated on here before (rightfully so) but I think he has incredible potential.
These were back in 2017.

I didn’t mean Traore would perform at Nani’s level. I was alluding to him having the potential to become a really dangerous player for a team such as ours.

He might be becoming one of the best players in the world, his ball carrying and dribbling ability alone is an anomaly, only Hazard and Messi come close in that regards, now he’s adding a final ball crossing and end product he’s becoming pretty complete.
