Lucky that he has arrived at a time when our attacking potential can render defensive mistakes footnotes. Previous CB's have not been allowed that luxury.

Poor game from him but hopefully it's a one off.

I'll let the lads decide whether he should be allowed on the team bus

He’s been great for pretty much every game of our current good run. Hilarious how that one move by the Bournemouth player brings out the knives

Worst performance in a United shirt, got done way to easily for the first goal, and his error lead to the penalty

Sloppy performance needs to eradicate moments like the start of the second half. That can’t happen.

Would have been a decent fourth choice when United was fighting for titles. As a captain and 80m player, a total joke.

Did you not watch the Spurs game when Bergwijn roasted him and scored?

The nutmeg really doesn't look good on him. He seems to be playing for a completely different team right now. We thought we were getting a version of VVD when we bought him but he isn't that at all.
Nobody thought that to be honest what was repeatedly said was that if we are paying so much money for the defender he should be in same league as VVD which Maguire clearly wasn't .

We just have to accept that he’s a bit slow and opposition attackers are always going to be able to get past him with a skill move.

Needs to wake up and sharpen up. Very similar error to the spurs one, caught cold and casual. In fairness to DDG, I don’t think he expected his CB and captain to be mugged off like that

Did anyone really think so? If yes, did they ever watch Maguire play football before?

When he does something wrong it is mentioned. Remember how Bergwijn made him look a while ago?

Maguire isnt the worldclass defender some here believe him to be. He is a good premier league defender with weak points.

“Pretty much” read the post. People aren’t just mentioning something he did wrong. A poster just called him a “total joke”

Another one just above this “awful defender”.

A bit of an exaggeration, but I see where you’re coming from. Nowhere near a Vidic, Stam or Ferdinand but he’s the best centre half we’ve had for a long time. He needs a quick partner next to him so if he is isolated he can be bailed out.

Surely not a world class, but calmed the game in the 2nd half and that made space for United to stuff opponent with goals.

It was a shocking, badly timed challenge, nothing to do with that. Made 2 errors leading to goals today, gaving the ball away in the build up to the 2nd too.

I don't think he is significantly better than Smallingor Lindeloff (actually, I think if he is better at all than them, it is marginal).

I would have taken a fit Wes Brown or Heinze (though he played mostly LB for us) every day ahead of him.

His performance will be overlooked because of the result but he was really poor today.

Thats 3 really poor errors since the restart, Berwijs and todays goal, plus the poor pass that end up in a disallowed goal due to offside.

For his bad luck it seems when he fecks up De Gea fecks up in the same play as well.

He is a truly shocking player has no pace at all and is beaten far too easily when he is in position.

He is extremely lucky he is english and white as the media would be all over him calling him the worst transfer in premiership history otherwise.

As it is every mistake is just blamed on other players not covering for him being useless as hey he is our Harry and a "leader "

He's slow both in his movement and speed of thought. Infuriates me when he takes ages to decide what to do with the ball 9 times out of 10. Still our best CB mind but that's more down to the other clowns we have

HMS Maguire needs bringing back to reality. If our attack and midfield wasn't so good, we would be talking about his mistakes in a loss today easily.

Worst performer on the team today by far. Getting nutmegged inside his own box is just embarrassing.

He seems to think he is some star on the ball. It's a joke. All he's really good for, is getting his massive slab head on the ball in the air.

We still need to get an elite CB if we're to challenge for the top trophies. Because elite CB he is not.

That's the crazy thing. Both from the media and some fans, he has a shield. Every goal-conceding mistake he makes, it is someone else fault.

Making him a captain 6 months after we signed him was just taking the piss of United.

We got mugged by Leicester and I said so at the time. But he's better than what he's shown in the last few weeks and should be doing better. Against teams who are adept at pressing (like Bournemouth) he along with afew others struggle imo.

Yeah, disappointing today. I think there are problems back there with none of the players looking particularly comfortable in each other's company. De Gea is not a commanding presence and has a mistake in him these days, Maguire can be run at and Lindelof is at times beaten too easily. Add Bailly who's very erratic and a brainfart from Matic and it looks too much fo a tinderbox for my liking.

It's the players and the coaches who need to sort this out, and Maguire as the captain and key man at the back has to take responsibility for this mess too.

Maguire is proof that value is relative (and also that United's recruitment in recent years has been cak). He was worth £80m to us because he was better than what we already had. However, to the elite Maguire wouldn't level them up enough to even consider that outlay. He's a good defender rather than a great defender. In our 1994, 1999 or 2008 teams he would not have been a starter. That in itself says a lot.
