I absolutely f***ing LOVE this guy. To think just a year ago we had such an unlikable bunch of players. This man has totally transformed the way we play, the results and the players around him. Martial, Pogba, Matic, Shaw all look far hungrier since he came in; I can only imagine he is geeing everyone up behind the scenes. Winner mentality, quality technically and leads by example. I actually (stupidly) thought he was going to flop here because the Portuguese league is so weak compared to the PL.

But just WOW. I don't really buy United shirts but you bet I am getting Bruno #18 for next season. Incredible player & character
:) love this post, sums up what everyone is feeling about Fernandes and the team right now.

Need to keep this positivity going into the EL knockouts and next season!

Agreed completely, literally I'm like Evra when he says "I'm in love with this player".

Its going to take me a while to get used to having a proper number 10. Wouldn't be the worst thing to give him jersey 7, he has auditioned for it and has the mentality to carry it. Sancho can get the 11.

Textbook example of why not to put too much stock into a player's age and the club he's playing for. There was a lot of 'if he's so good, then why is he at Sporting at age 25' kind of sentiment.

And also there were questions about the portuguese league making him look better than he really is.
There are great players playing in Portugal/France/Holland

Yeah. People treated Sporting like its a small club in Faroe Islands or something. Also, i believe that one of the reasons that he was still at Sporting is that because they were pricing him out of the market a bit.

I think he'd prefer 8.

I find a lot of parallels between him and Cantona. The way Eric came in and sort of brought a swagger and arrogance to the team, along with sheer quality, is exactly what Bruno has done.

Hopefully the parallels don't end there, and we're about to witness another period of dominance, with this guy at the helm and sprinkling of home grown brilliance in Rashford, Greenwood and Pogba.

This guy has transformed this club, and my entire outlook on our direction as a team. Another brilliant performance today. The only question is why we didn't sign him in the summer?

He can't play in Europa right? there is no rule after a certain stage of the competition etc blah blah...

If he can't play then he can have a rest during those games.

Although football is far easier on the body when you have the ball, so just having him on the pitch makes it easier for everyone all round.

He’s already played for us in Europa.

This question should be studied in University. Its baffling. Sporting were hawking Fernandes around for years and nobody, nobody in world football thought 'hmm, worth a punt.' Even United came close to missing out on him two windows running. Remember the anonymous briefings last summer that Bruno gives the ball away too much to sign for United..? :houllier:
Bruno wasn't always this good, in Serie A he was just ok and in his first season here he was pretty hit and miss and he didn't really fit in in the tactical system that Jorge Jesus had.

Then after 2018 he was a monster for 1.5 seasons before he went to United but we were really shit and the level of the league is a lot worse than it used to be so it was understandable that clubs were fearful he couldn't do the same at a higher level. Besides, United was the perfect team for him. Having those fast players in attack to play balls to and Pogba to share the creative burden is the perfect environment. United aside, the one team that should have been all over this deal was Liverpool imo. He would have been perfect for them too.

I've seen a few comparisons but I don't see any resemblance to Mata at all.
The peak Juan Mata at Chelsea had 12 goals and 20 assists then 19 and 35 the next year.

Those are numbers that Bruno is seemingly projecting to be on for a full season at United across multiple competitions.

They both took most of the free kicks and had similar positions as the no 10. Skillsets are a bit different but in terms of output and influence I think it's valid.

Movement was superb and he looked a threat every time he got the ball, he's like a duracel bunny.

I'm convinced those Mata stats are not true, what is the source? No way did Juan Mata have 50+ goals/assists in 1 season.

He’s been great. It’s his attitude as much as anything. He’s brought a better psychological dynamic to the side.

He is most comparable to KDB for me. High risk end product player with physical intensity. KDB is more aesthetically pleasing in his passing but output is comparable.

1 goal, 2 assists, and he also allowed Rashford to take the penalty.
Very, very impressive from Bruno today

What a great player this guy is, great mentality, exactly what we needed!

He might turn up to be our best transfer in last ten years or so.

Under Jesus in his first season at Sporting he scored 16 goals and made 20 assists in all competitions, the main difference was that he had better players around him and under Jorge Jesus you will never be allowed to be a one man team. On the rest I agree it’s always difficult to predict if a player with big stats in Portugal, Netherlands or Belgium will have impact on a top league. I don’t feel embarrassed to say when they asked me here if I thought he was good enough to play for United I didn’t knew if he could do it because in his last 18 months he basically had big numbers on that context playing with crap players under crap managers after Jorge Jesus. For instance I think the best thing it happened for him was Pogba coming back to the team, so it’s not scandalous that top clubs in Europe had doubts if he could improve playing at a higher level, for example, could he perform at this level for a Juventus, Barcelona? I don’t know, but yes he improved as a player after Serie A.

He's the player we'd miss the most. So on that basis, he is.
This might but be the best but what he gives to this team is something we have been missing. I would bet on him selling a couple of shirts this summer..

Imagine if spurs would have got him, pure quality player.

Besides all the he gives on the pitch is really nice to see his leadership skills, he's constantly advicing teammates where to move.

7 goals and 6 assists in 14 matches, for a team that when he signed was closer to relegation rather than UCL zone.

Not bad for someone coming from a league of farmers and fishermen.
