This is terrific from Rio

Great little analysis from Rio there. Totally agree with him that Bruno’s first thought is always to hurt the opponent, theres no off switch with it like most players.

Constantly on beast mode, love it.

I absolutely f***ing LOVE this guy. To think just a year ago we had such an unlikable bunch of players. This man has totally transformed the way we play, the results and the players around him. Martial, Pogba, Matic, Shaw all look far hungrier since he came in; I can only imagine he is geeing everyone up behind the scenes. Winner mentality, quality technically and leads by example. I actually (stupidly) thought he was going to flop here because the Portuguese league is so weak compared to the PL.

But just WOW. I don't really buy United shirts but you bet I am getting Bruno #18 for next season. Incredible player & character
Wait and see what happens with Mata before you get it! He'll likely take 8 if Mata leaves.

Bruno has been our best player this break but make no mistake he will struggle to be this effective without pogba and matic. It wasn’t too long ago we struggled to create against Everton.

With that said I just love how he has multiple options to pass to with Pogba always available on the edge. He is currently unplayable because you can’t mark him and leave our other attackers alone. He can either pass or shoot.
Everton was his 4th game with us, and Ole tried to experiment with a diamond 442 formation to gives room for McT in starting line up. We created 18 chances on that game but couldn't convert it, both Martial and Greenwood were isolated and had a bad game.
I think he will be okay without without Pogba and Matic, because Fred and McT were also great this season. He will struggle without Rashford and Greenwood, they are the magnet for the defenders that give Bruno extra space in the middle.

He's on pace for about 20 goals 20 assists in forty-five apps in all comps.

How we didn't go into this season with him is truly an absurdity for the club's ages. What a player.
Probably a mix of:

1. the coaching staff wanting to see if Lingard/Pereira could step up
2. the coaching staff thinking it only fair to give them a shot
3. the coaching staff knowing the above two were necessary steps
4. Woodward/Judge still exercising footballing influence

With the exact proportions of the mix being up for speculation.

Textbook example of why not to put too much stock into a player's age and the club he's playing for. There was a lot of 'if he's so good, then why is he at Sporting at age 25' kind of sentiment.
It's about being able to judge the player in isolation - regardless of his team or his opponents. And in Fernandes' case I can admit that he's proven my initial doubts to be completely misplaced. When I watched his highlights, I didn't really focus on the Portuguese league, but wasn't completely sold on his technical quality. He didn't have that special ability on the ball. And it was hard to judge some of his qualities given the space afforded to players. But it just goes to show that sometimes aspects like final third brilliance, decision making, mentality etc aren't that easy to pick up on.

I'll raise my hand and say I doubted him loads last summer! Didn't think he was right for us but by the end I think I would've been OK with it given the lack of business. In January though was desperate for him. But originally I thought we should use Pogba as the 10 and go for a more all round midfielder. Whatever the case, one shouldve been more last summer. Better late than never!

We have to rest them at some point. We have 7 games in 17 days.
Surely some of those are FA cup /EL ties? He never should have player 120 minutes in the FA cup. Since we can't change the past, I'd give him rest in the non league games. The PL is too precariously placed right now. Everyone feels Leicester are on the downside but we're one slip up away from losing that race.

1 FA cup game. Sorry It’s actually 6 games. There is no way Solksjaer is resting Bruno or any other big player for a semi final.

To be honest I would. I think the PL games are more important than the FA cup semi final. And I've always felt ever cup matters. However with the momentum we have this squad needs CL football and it would be deflating for them to not do so.

I would agree but it’s his best chance at a trophy this year and he isn’t going down without a fight. He has mentioned time and again this team needs to win a trophy together so it’s start of something big.

Give the guy a new contract fps. He's around 75-100k a week and Mata is on 160k a week. Even Lingard is on 75k ffs.

Never doubted him, even with numerous people talking about his passing stats, or how we "were never interested in him". As for the rest he needs, I think he will start every match and his rest will be an early sub here and there when we have a match sewn up. His fitness levels are incredible.

We have plenty of rest before the Villa game, get it wrapped up in the first half and rest him in the 2nd.

When we are winning like this the players will be raring to play, as long as there’s some sort of rotation through early subbing I don’t think fatigue is going to be an issue, especially when they just had a nice long rest before the restart.

Lingard is on 100k
Yeah depends on which source. Some says 100k, some says 75k. Imo 75k seems more reasonable so I take the 75k. But who knows with the current board, they gave Jones and Rojo new contracts.

Some Ole similarities with The Great Man SAF

He achieved to put a smile back on utd fans through entertaining football
I cant wait to the next match. In LVG and Mou eras i barely thought about utd in between game days
We are scoring 4 and 5 goals in games again
He could snatch a talent from europe RM and Barca werent aware of

This portuguese guy is something special. He will walk into the n10 spot of Portugal in the next euros without a doubt. His football brain and decision making is easily the best in our team. He always makes little faints when receiving a ball that gets him an extra yard of space over defenders. Adding his top workrate and ball control, he is a pain in the ass for the opposition to mark. His arrival and inmediate impact as other posters have said is comparable to RVP which was many many years ago.

Remember when Redcafe labels Bruno as another Gaitan? Search the transfer thread for Bruno and you will see Gaitan pops up at least a thousand times. They also thinks that he is an average player stats padding against Portuguese farmers. I spent so much time arguing against them I was fecking traumatised by how stupid people can be.

feck you all.

He has been so good that I was actually surprised that he missed that chance early on in the match. I think he was surprised as well.

I must say that I have mo idea where these Scholes comparisons keep coming from. They play nothing alike for me.

Bruno is easily the best player Manchester United currently has, and by some distance I would say. We were absolutely dire before he joined us.
Yeah but Pogba was out for ages at that time too. It has been a phenomenal start for Bruno helped my Pogba coming back too.
I would still class Paul as are best player though.

And you can also add the unfounded sentiments that good players is lesser leagues are likely to struggle in the premier league. This guy and Sporting Lisbon played against Liverpool in the last preseason and Klopp said afterwards he hoped we wouldn't sign him. We didn't until we were desperate. We should than our stars Liverpool didn't go/have room for him, and Spurs decided he wasn't worth it.

Which is exactly why spending £80mil on an average CB will bite us. Wrong thread I know but I can’t help but think where we’d be had we been as prudent with our summer dealings as we proved with this one.

Bruno as you say is one of many class players in ‘lesser’ leagues.
The issue here is we tried Rojo, Bailly and Lindelof from other leagues and for reduced sums. None really delivered so I don't really blame the club for looking within the PL and for wanting a player with leadership skills.

Bruno has been our best player this break but make no mistake he will struggle to be this effective without pogba and matic. It wasn’t too long ago we struggled to create against Everton.

You mention the Everton game but Bruno scored in that one too!

I know he likes 8 and etc but 18 was Scholes' number and it fits him so well.

He'll probably start in that other non league game since it's Chelsea and a semi final.

It's purely to do with the shirt number.

If we're being generous, maybe it's to do with both of them being the single player who knits the rest of the team together.

But, yeah. Very different. Bruno plays more like Giggs after he lost his pace.

Does anyone else get the feeling that the reason Ole doesn't seem that worried about resting him is that he's just one of those unusually fit players with an unusual capacity for recovery, like Vardy, or - once upon a time - Giggs? Look at his physique, he's got that very light wiry build too. Never seems puffed, even at the end of the 120 minutes he was chasing back into his own half.

Indeed, yet every pundit, including his ex-teammates can’t stop going on with the ‘he reminds me so much of Paul Scholes’. I can’t really say he reminds me of any of our former players tbh, his skill set seems a first at United. If anything, Rooney would be the most similar I’d say.
