Is Pogba as good as gone?

You mean the comments he made over a year ago?

I think alot has changed since then. Both on and off the pitch.
I hope so. Whatever happens, it mustn't be dragged out. Pogba has a huge ego and he loves being the centre of attention, but we mustn't have a summer of "is he staying or going". If he wants to leave, we need to get it done quickly then focus upon a replacement. If he's committed, he should say so asap then knuckle down. I don't want a media circus all summer either way.

Pogba's own remarks about a "new challenge", plus the media reports, which I don't think are all hot air. We shall see what happens, and I hope he stays, but we should be making plans for a top class replacement, in the event of his leaving.
The thing is a switched on Pogba is better than anyone out there so if we can get him playing happy and focused on the club then we don't need to look anywhere else.

That said if he want's to go it's been going on that long we should look to replace.

Clubs can't afford him. If Sancho is worth £100m or more, than Pogba should be even more than that. He is not leaving unless something completely crazy happens.

Fully agree; the ball is in his court now. As Fergie said during the Rooney transfer request saga, just don't take the piss out of the club; make a decision either way so we can move forward. If he's fully on board with Ole's plans, fantastic.

Imagine if he signed a new deal. In a way the World Cup won may help with that, club is going in the right direction and he’s won something every kid dreams of even beyond a “normal” superstar footballer.

He’s staying because of covid and a lack of clubs willing to pay for him though.

I do think he will end up signing a new deal in the summer if we qualify for the CL.

Not too sure how I'll feel about if he does, as we are seeing when he's in form and interested there aren't many better, but I really don't want another 3/4 years of him and his agent flirting with other clubs every summer.

At least Ronaldo had the decency to give his all and keep his mouth shut (for the most part), Pogba just doesn't seem to have the same respect for the club and it really does rub me up the wrong way.
What has Pogba directly said exactly? Ronaldo on the other hand agreed with Sepp Blatter's (I think it was) comments about being a slave. Unless I'm mistaken, I can only remember Raiola spouting his mouth off.

It's hardly a shocking revelation, mate. He epitomises the massively paid modern player, but is hardly unique in that.
Again. Huh? I take it you’ve spoken to him & those close to him or is this based on the club PR when he signed & the fact he dyes his hair? Or the fact he has a brand; you know like even Tom Cleverly, sorry TC23 does? Or the fact his mouthy agent talks loads?

Most footballers are highly pampered but I’m genuinely curious as to why his ego stands out above other players as a quality to criticise him over. I’m not talking about ‘the modern player’ this is about Pogba; he doesn’t drink, he’s a family man.

His ego doesn't 'stand out above other players'; as I said, it's a trait of many a ridiculously highly paid modern player. I base it upon a number of statements he has made designed to focus attention upon himself, not least stoking transfer rumours, his social media/public profile etc. Now, I'm not saying he is unique in having a huge ego, but, if you're trying to argue he's another Paul Scholes, I disagree with you. He certainly has a big ego and loves being talked about, in accordance with his public behaviour. He is no shrinking violet, that's for sure.

I may be wide of the mark here, but since he has come back there has been no showboating, no dilly dallying on the ball and has played with a smile on his face. I think the fact he is no longer the main man here and we have started to play like the Utd of old has changed his outlook. I think he might even want to stay now and wouldnt be surprised to hear he has signed a new contract.

It’s really annoying how the ‘other version’ of Pogba’s game - the offensive and probing one is always summarised as some sort of ‘selfish, trying to do it all himself’ and other similar sentiments. Only this reserved version is him not being selfish. He has basically the same goals/games as KDB in the PL since they have both been here. It is called contributing, I’m not sure why every attempt at being positive on the pitch is a negative with him only.

You would think he was some sort of freestyler. He’s scored and created a good amount of goals and chances for us. It isn’t simply ‘showing off’. It’s playing football.

All this ‘dilly dallying’ talk is repeated infinitum, as if that is how his game should be summarised. Anyway, reading back through this thread will reveal the underlying sentiment so the intent to discredit is unsurprising. When a player like him, who has been the only creator on the pitch is trying to do things, I have no idea why it is summarised as ‘Hollywood’ passing and ‘doing it for himself’. He’s trying to create ffs.

I have gone in on Pogba more than once but I will be delighted if he stays. I don't mind admitting that most of my negativity towards Pogba was a response to the stuff coming out of his camp about wanting to leave. Generally, I think if a player doesn't want to be at United then we should let them go. Man Utd should not have to beg and plead with players not to leave. However, if Pogba has had a change of heart and really wants to stay then that would be fantastic. In my opinion he is playing better for us than he ever has before: Performing in that double pivot at a level I have not seen from him since World Cup 2018. Long may it continue.

He looks happy at the minute.

Unless something completely unforseeable happens I don't think we need to worry about him tbh.

Raiola is a massive twat but if Pogba is happy then he stays.

Certain to be here? It's far from certain, mate. I think it's more likely he'll be away in the summer, and, if so, we need a world class replacement to compliment Bruno. I really hope he stays, but I'm not confident of that.
Nobody can afford him. We don't have to sell.

I honestly think all he ever wanted to do is compete at the highest level with a good team. We were shit at the time. He was well within his rights to consider other challenges. But that's now changed

Nothing is ever as black and white as fans make out! Truth is, he did look disinterested when our team was struggling so I can understand why fans wanted him gone! I must admit lots of match going fans were sick of the site of him earlier this season!

However, after the lockdown he has looked a different player- so if that continues i would love it if he stays for many years
He only looked disinterested to haters and those with an agenda. We all watched him and seen him struggle and also have good games. When he is struggling it doesn’t mean he is disinterested. It’s football, if the whole team isn’t performing he can be a victim of that too. Bad performances doesn’t automatically mean he isn’t interested. Matic was piss poor and for ages and we called him poor we didn’t say he is disinterested. Pogba wasn’t consistent that’s true. It doesn’t have to be attributed to his character. It can be tactics, team quality etc. all our players are called out when they perform poorly we don’t attribute it to them being disinterested. It should be same with Pogba

Great post! How exactly do we reach the conclusion that he «looked disinterested» anyway? Sounds like the body language experts are showing their faces again.. He struggled like all our players, simple as.

Look at the absolute ego on this lad! How dare he turn some music up & have a dance after playing the game.

Also notice he’s wearing a durag to cover that BLM thing he had carved in his head.

Disgraceful, he’s everything that’s wrong with the game.

*Class on grass.

He’s our best player.

Vive la Pogba FC.

I wish he'd just sign a new contract now - if he goes then so be it but out of choice I'd love to see him lead this team into exciting times.

‘We don’t mind if he wants to dance now as he’s playing well and United are winning games’.

Hopefully Pogba will now realise that the "new challenge" he is looking for is now taking place at Utd with Bruno coming in. Pogba will never be the all action, dynamic player that Bruno is, but rather he is the Rolls Royce in the Utd midfield, a quiet creative influence making things tick, but when needs to can step up a few gears when required. He needs to realise that his partnership with Bruno (plus Matic) has the potential to not only be the best in the PL but also in Europe. If he wants to be part of something big then he should stay put.

I agree he looks like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders since the arrival of Bruno.

I think the mistake us as fans and managers have made with him is expecting him to be "the man" on the pitch every game. I don't think he thrives under that kind of pressure and leads to him appearing to hog the ball too much or overplaying in certain circumstances leading him to lose possession.

I do believe we'll see the best version of Pogba next season if he stays.

I think he might be very much interested in staying another season to see if we have truly turned the corner. Because I think what's happening right now is the project that was pitched to him before Pogback.

What's interesting regarding Pogba at the moment is he's only finding his feet; what's been displayed isn't close to his top level.

It's not just this Pogba people should be thinking of when considering him, it's the player his talent always suggested would become one of the truly great midfielders, that they should be thinking of, too.

This team has gears and levels of unlocked potential to harness, and Pogba is one of the key components in that. We're getting a taster at the moment, so imagine the engine firing on all cylinders, possibly with a couple of improvements to our first xi. That's what we should be gravitating toward.

We're a few players short of genuinely challenging for the league, if Pogba stays.
