Absolutely delighted for Lando, that is awesome.

God I can’t get over how stupid Mercedes were. Tried to get an easy 1-2, ended up fecking over their lead driver, look stupid to the world and not even allow racing to happen after a massive layoff. Bottas was toast, don’t even want to hear 3.0 bullshit.

Agree, arrogance from Mercedes. They should have offered Bottas the 1st option to pit then if he said no then offer it Lewis. You cannot do what they did today. What is annoying Lewis was so much faster when following Bottas. Ridiculous from Mercedes.

I wonder why they didn’t let Lewis through at the end with a few laps to go. It’s cost him 3rd unless they appeal and win.

Lewis was probably already pissed about people not kneeling, he will be seething now after his team fannied him around.

Should have let Lewis pass Bottas before K-Mag's safety car accident

Final Standing form the first race of the season, plenty of action
Mercedes mess up big time , would not let Lewis and Bottas race, then a 5 second penalty for Lewis, dropped him from 2nd to 4th.
Well done to Lando on 3rd cracking race.

Great result.

Think Bottas has a good opportunity to win this mini-title. And the future of F1, along with Max obviously, both getting on the podium.

Well that was all a bit nuts. Entertaining though. Bummer for Lewis, fantastic for Leclerc and Norris.

Fun.

For those math geeks out there...

Lando's fastest lap was 0.237 seconds faster than Lewis'
The difference between the two crossing the line was 0.198
0.039 the difference between 3rd and 4th

There won't be an appeal here, it was a stonewall penalty by the rulebook.

Really? There's no relevance to that comment here, leave it to the current events thread.

Lewis was in the wrong here, Albon was ahead of him in the corner. He's already apologised.

This is the F1 thread, Lewis is in F1, he's already came out and said that he's made the point to drivers and that he thinks a few of them don't understand the issues of racism. I would not at all be surprised if he was miffed at drivers not showing solidarity with the knee gesture. It's perfectly relevant thanks.

Which makes the decision to not let him past Bottas worse. Why let Lewis shorten the gab from 3 seconds to 0.7 with 2 laps to go to then not let him last on last lap.

Why was Hamilton penalised? What happened to letting drivers race?:confused::confused:

Of course it's relevant. The guy was quite vocal on the matter, obviously will be on his mind, and then all these events happen as well during the race.

If we're having a conversation about Lewis and today's race in an F1 thread it could be raised as a reason behind him being frustrated and angry. Just mentioning the kneeling thing doesn't mean the thread will go off the rail and turn into a BLM.

Lewis should have gone with his instinct and attacked Botas when he had the chance to, he will go all out next week to prove a point.

Really stupid of Mercedes not to let Hamilton pass Bottas in order to protect the 1/2.
Could be costly over a short season.
Madness. It was so obvious.

He's not even spoken to the media from driving onto the grid until he's got out of the car, you're insinuating or trying to link that his performance has been affected by people not taking a knee instead of the racing. That's my point on it having zero relevance, as he's not spoken to anyone about it.

This kind of race is the only way Hamilton can be stopped from winning another championship.
Hopefully there will be more of the same next week.

Behind Mercedes it looks like there will be a great battle for the season

Well that race got a bit mental at end there. It was looking pretty dull for a long time with too much of it behind a safety car. Delighted for Lando and McClaren who I like quite a lot. However you really got to feel for Albon. To be denied that first podium in such a cruel fashion. I'm not sure who will be more annoyed after that race between him and his team mate. Elsewhere you have to admire the job done by LeClerc to drag that Ferrari to second. Especially when compared to his teammates performance. Albeit he made a big mistake but I can't believe Seb couldn't recover more from that.

Really? There’s even less competition than last year with Ferrari being so bad. Hamilton got two penalties, both had car issues, lots of safety cars to bunch up the field. And they’re still top.

Agreed. The gap that existed between Bottas and Albion tells you pretty much everything you need to know right now. Would Max have done a better job staying close to to Bottas? Perhaps, but he also would ve been passed by Hamilton.

Lots on here were blinded by being a fan, thinking this will have an impact on Hamilton steamrolling to another championship, before the race they were saying Bothas stands no chance, well he definitely wouldn’t if he was asked to simply move out of the way to save a 1-2.

I was referring to it being costly for Hamilton chances of his 7th championship.

Don’t understand why Mercedes didn’t let Lewis past with 1.5-2 laps to go try try to build a couple of seconds.

This.....other teams need to get their shire together especially Ferrari. Before the SC they were ten secs ahead. Just give Hamilton the trophy already.

:lol::lol: who exactly is going to challenge Hamilton for the championship, the only concevable threat is bothas and what you wanted to do would have damaged his chances a hell of a lot more as we all know Lewis is going to run away with it because bothas is not a marathon runner like Lewis.

TBF Hamilton risked everything when he was closing the space for Albon and it didn't worked. He should let him go by. He lost 1 place because of that, Albon lost everything and this is second time in last 12 months that Lewis spun him.

Very happy for Lando and McLaren, Leclerc who magically drove that car in second place and Bottas who rightfully won.

They were nursing both cars, and both engines were turned right down.
Doesn’t change anything. Hamilton had better pace than Bottas all day. All he needed was 0.2 seconds over two laps.

Albon was already past him, you don't hit people when they overtake you just because you fecked up.
Well if Albon was already past him (which he was not) how could Hamilton have hit him.

Albon was taking the risk by passing on the outside of turn 4 and as the video shows, Hamilton steering wheel did not show any change of direction. He was steering to the right.

Its called the B pillar rule (obviously metaphroic in F1) but essentialy when over half of a vehicle is ahead of the vehicle behind, the corner is then deemed to be the car in the leads corner and the car behind is responsible for conceeding position in order for both vehicles to safely run. Irrespective of whether Lewis's steering wheel did not show any change of direction, he carried speed through the corner which caused the front to understeer into the rear of Albon's Redbull. It was an avoidable collision caused by Hamilton (Albon is unaware of how much room he has by obvious fact of being alot further along) and Hamilton is lucky he only got a 5 second penalty considerng the impact it had on Albon. Considering the bullshit last year with Vettel at Canada and both vehicles safely continued, he got off very very lightly.

Personally, these situations should be a 30 second penalty not 5.

You're talking bollocks, Albon was already past Lewis, how else do you think the front of Lewis car hit Albon's car in the middle?

Lewis should be the one avoiding contact by reducing his speed on that scenario according to the rulebooks.

It's not the first time he's been penalised for thinking the rules don't apply to him. He just gets away with it because his Mercedes is usually way ahead of everybody else which means he barely gets into this kind of scenario.
