Nonsense, Belgium isnt really a country, just some angry French and Dutch secessionists. No idea why France and us havent just annexed their halfs.

Regarding Germans, they're like us bar the good looks and sense of humor. We're also much better at football, even if they've somehow won slightly more world cups.
According to french friend of mine, Wallonia is a place full of backwater inbreds. She told me that back then, when I made just that very suggestion, after she regained composure from a lengthy hysterical laugh attack.

Pretty much this.
They re supposed to rule today on whether congress can obtain the records today as well, right?
Just ruled. They won’t.

I wonder if NY AG with jurisdiction over the documents can unilaterally opt to share them with Congress...

6-2 as well with both Kavanaugh and Gorsuch concurring with the chief justice.
Wow. Glad to see Kavanagh has a spine. Gorsuch and Roberts already showed before that they do. Probably also tells you that yet again its someone like Thomas who is truly in the pocket of the executive branch. Granted I haven't read the opinion yet but Thomas is very predictable that way.

If he looses... and delaying the release might just help him to make sure he does not
Yeah I just read that by sending it back down it’s quite possible he can again lose in a lower court, go through appeal and end up right back in the Supreme Court again. Seems wildly unlikely that all that is going to happen in just 5 months.

Unfortunately all this will run beyond the election but it’s still a huge blow for Trump. Yet another news story he has lost total control of, and corruption was a big stick he used to beat Hillary with and deflect from his own shit.

Yeah, no one rates Belgium.

In all seriousness they're kinder than the Dutch and less arrogant and smelly than the French. They should annex us to create a huge Belgian empire. I can mimic the accent well enough anyway.

The ruling puts paid the argument that Congress should have waited for the courts before proceeding with impeachment.

Just listened to that and she had no clue what she was saying. It was a bumbling mess, kinda like she was reading a Trump transcript.

They’re spinning the angle of it being sent back to the lower court, where it can be dragged out past November.
which I think is effectivley a win for trump as frankly by that point hes either lost the election and admitted defeat and is tweeting about stolen elections from trump tower moscow... or there is a civil war going on because he wont leave office - or he has won at which point he wont care and/or will stack the supreme court with rabid maga types who will do as he tells them

Thomas opinion is predictably fecking complete garbage, but Alito's is fairly reasonable. He doesn't really dissent from the majority per se as much as just ask for more specificity from congress. The fact that Thomas even sits on the highest court in the land is a sick joke however. You may as well stick Eric Trump on there and be done with it.

Justice Clarence Thomas
"Congress’ legislative powers do not authorize it to engage in a nationwide inquisition with whatever resources it chooses to appropriate for itself. The majority’s solution—a nonexhaustive four-factor test of uncertain origin—is better than nothing. But the power that Congress seeks to exercise here has even less basis in the Constitution than the majority supposes. I would reverse in full because the power to subpoena private, nonofficial documents is not a necessary implication of Congress’ legislative powers. If Congress wishes to obtain these documents, it should proceed through the impeachment power."
Justice Samuel Alito:
"Whenever such a subpoena comes before a court, Congress should be required to make more than a perfunctory showing that it is seeking the documents for a legitimate legislative purpose and not for the purpose of exposing supposed Presidential wrongdoing.
He continued: "I agree that the lower courts erred and that these cases must be remanded, but I do not think that the considerations outlined by the Court can be properly satisfied unless the House is required to show more than it has put forward to date. Specifically, the House should provide a description of the type of legislation being considered, and while great specificity is not necessary, the description should be sufficient to permit a court to assess whether the particular records sought are of any special importance. The House should also spell out its constitutional authority to enact the type of legislation that it is contemplating, and it should justify the scope of the subpoenas in relation to the articulated legislative needs."

Totally off-topic, but something I wonder about: do Belgians make any difference between different part of the Netherlands? (Not 'Holland', damn it!) I grew up in the south (hence the 'not Holland'), and I often feel more connected to Flanders (more so than Wallonia I guess) than NL 'above the rivers'. In fact, my grand-parents used to watch the Belgian king's speeches (like at Christmas) instead of the Dutch queen's, cause she meant nothing to them. I wonder if that would make any sense to Belgians.
There is a big difference imo. Zeeland and other southern provinces such as Brabant and Limburg feel more Flemish than Dutch to me, and I know a lot of people from there who feel the same. My mom is Dutch actually and feels a lot more Flemish than Dutch, but she grew up about 10km from the border...

Always thought we should give the Wallon provinces to France and annex Zeeland, Brabant and Limburg.

Good. Please let me escape this $2000 car with $10,000 rims of a country and come there.

On my honor, I’ll quarantine, learn the language(s), I won’t even shoot anything. And I already like waffles!
Waffles are for children. Abbey beer, fries and mussels and you are good to go. Mind, we haven't had a government for 12 months now, so we have our own problems
