We've completely let Leicester and Chelsea off the hook. Despite some decent form, we are still stuck in fifth place, with now only three games to play. Incredibly frustrating.

We are obviously still in the hunt, but we are going to need to beat Leicester at the King Power. Difficult to overstate how massive that game is - the consequences for missing out on CL this year would be absolutely dire for the club.
We went from being nailed on to being under serious pressure in one quick instant. So stupid after getting back into it.

If we had to drop points anywhere, I'm glad it was here. I think it'll keep us more focused to be chasing.

I wouldn't be 100% confident that a little complacency wouldn't sneak into this squad if we were sat in 3rd with 3 games to go. A good bollocking behind the scenes, a focusing of minds and 3 wins from our last 3 will see us finish 3rd anyway.
This was a tough game especially with the way Soton have been playing and we looked knackered too.
However, Ole needs to rest some players. Bruno should definitely get a breather. If possible, also let Rashford stay in the bench next game.
All said and done, we are still in a very good position to be in the top 4 and I expect Ole to guide us to it. Cannot wait till Thursday for our next fixture. Still excited.

The definition of squeaky bum time: one point separating three teams with three games to go.

Exciting stuff

Leicester have got to play Spurs, Chelsea have got to play Wolves and Liverpool. At this point, I'd be absolutely shocked if you don't get in the top 4

I don't think it's being bullish or overconfident to expect to beat Norwich at home.

We might lose but if we do we certainly have no business being in the Champions league anyway.
Don't worry, Norwich could smash you 7-0, we'd still be far too courteous to dare take advantage

If we beat Crystal Palace & West Ham (Very likely) and Leicester draw against Sheffield United & Tottenham (Very possible) we will have CL before even facing Leicester.

No need to panic. Roll up the sleeves and get back to business. Southampton are a strong team on a great run.
I'm honestly sick of these if's. We should have gotten the job done tonight, absolutely no question about it. This is supposed to be a team that that was gearing up to challenge for the title next season? that's laughable when you look at the amount of times we've bottled games like tonight.

Still confident. Chelsea remaining fixture is a nightmare compared to ours and leceister are freefalling. I can see both them Losing two of the last three easily. We are still on path for top four unless we completely fall apart

Leicester (their next two) and Chelsea (their last two) both have two hard games we have one. Be surprised if they both don’t drop at least two points. All far from lost.

You'll thrash them and Wolves will have nothing much to play for by the final day.

Chelsea will be fine. It is one of Leicester or United and it will be decided at the King Power.

I know our defence is shite but why is everyone so confident Liverpool will twat us? Way too much focus being put on their pts total and home record, theyre champs, if they lose do you really think they give a feck? Do you think they were devastated not to beat Burnley? No, why would they be. Games are dead rubbers for them now, no matter how much straw clutching goes on

Should we beat Norwich we have a 4 pt gap over Utd and Leicester. Which is not bad at this stage. But i wouldnt get too confident that you'll beat Palace and West Ham yet, theyre going to be harder than you think. I imagine 90% of this forum would have had Soton as a banker win if asked this afternoon.

We just need to hope that Ole and the boys use it as motivation to kick on and ensure top 4 in our remaining fixtures. We’re the best team of the three with the easiest run in. Chelsea will win tomorrow but then there is a chance of Chelsea and Leicester dropping points in all of their remaining fixtures. Stay positive

Tonight's game , really fecked me off, we let them off, we sat back and let them come at us.
Play like this for the remaining games and we will be luck to get Europa, never mind CL.
We didn't let them. We didn't have the legs to match them. Our fitness levels clearly a not up to par with the opponent today.

Baffling really. At home too.

Of course we're still in a great position to get top 4, but we just dropped points to a team who - on paper - have nothing to lose. If you expect Palace and West Ham to be "easier" than Chelsea and Leicester's games, you're in for a surprise.

Sickening to think Chelsea might potentially go unpunished for their loss this weekend.
As I said before Lampard is lucky general. As for United it looks like that Leicester game will be a decider and United won't be winning that game if they play as poorly as tonight.

But Southampton are a better team than Palace and West Ham and we still should have been out of sight.

Not really. Southampton’s work rate is one of the best in the league. It’s disappointing we didn’t see it out, of course it is. But they’re a good side.

Ive seen this on other forums, for some reason the Leicester result and tonight has given your fanbase this strange confidence back which you dont deserve quite frankly

You'll get battered at the dippers. I also wouldn't count wolves out either, but they may have nothing to play for.

But you're right in saying that we might drop points against palace. I'd say its 50/50 right now, depending on which Manchester United turns up. The one with energy or the one today with players looking knackered by the 20th minute.

We're going to have to sacrifice the FA Cup and focus on our next two games if we want to be fresh and win both the game going into the final day.

It's a bit of a kick in the teeth but i'm just not seeing the negativity when you compare United's form and fixtures to Chelsea's and Leicesters. The only issue i have is that maybe fatigue might come into play against Palace and West Ham (add an FA cup semi final against Chelsea, but they obviously have to play it too) but I think there's enough in the tank. I could see us even dropping a couple of points in those games and still finishing third.

Let's face it, on the evidence of this season, none of the three contenders have any business being in the Champions League.

It’s not whether or not they have anything to play for, it’s the way they play. I suspected Southampton would cause us problems because of that. I don’t see Palace or West Ham being able to match the intensity that caused us so many problems tonight.

Said it before, ill say it again. Leicester will lose to Spurs.
That's not really the point. We have massively increased the chances we go into the last game against Leicester needing at least a draw. We could have had 3rd sewn up if we had just done our job.

And yes we could easily lose to Leicester in a one off game away from home, it's certainly a bigger worry on paper than Southampton at old trafford when they had nothing to play for.

This, much rather drop points here, than at Leicester.
Football doesn't work like that, you don't get to pick where you draw a game so you can guarantee a win in another game..

We've just made the game against Leicester important, when it should have been a dead rubber if we just done our job.

We will finish top 4. Today was a blip and the players looked really tired. Happens.
Leicester look dreadful and Chelsea have been up and down pretty much all season. They aren't winning at Anfield and I am pretty confident we will win our next two games.
If it comes down to us having to get a result against Leicester last day, I am sure we will do that.
So you're pretty confident we will win our next 2 games - were you "pretty confident" we would beat Southampton tonight?

And you're sure we'll get a result against Leicester away from home when they're fighting for top 4, even though we couldn't beat Southampton at home when they have nothing to play for?

The confidence on here is amazing.

I’d still put us in the driving seat looking at the remaining fixtures and form. Today was a big opportunity missed to almost solidify a top 4 position however on paper today was probably the most difficult game for us. I’d say we should win out next 2.

Leicester are in free fall and Sheffield Utd, Spurs and us are not easy games especially with one of their main centre backs missing.

Chelsea have got Norwich which they should win but then Liverpool and Wolves again are not easy and could easily drop points.

Wolves shouldn’t be ruled out either. If Chelsea lose to Liverpool and then Wolves beat Chelsea on the final day then they’d finish above them (presuming they also win their other 2 remaining games) Put Leicester‘s woeful form into the mix and there’s a very distinct possibility that Wolves could squeeze in!

Going to be an interesting last few games but eh this is why we love football is it not?

Reality check tonight for sure: second best for most of the night, injuries to both our left-backs, the first XI look knackered and have two teams left to play who have beaten us already this season, one of them managed by a man hugely motivated to stick the knife into us any chance he gets - those two lost points tonight were very important

and? theyre 43 pts clear of burnley who held them to a 1-1.
Quite right. And people were confident they’d beat Burnley. I think add in the factors that it’s the day they get the title, they want a points record etc and you just got spanked by Sheff Utd, it’s not difficult to see why people think you’ll struggle at anfield
