Former Manchester United star and Busby Babe, Alex Dawson, has passed away at the age of 80.

The club confirmed on Friday that the striker, who played at Old Trafford for four seasons, has died.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1940, Dawson came through the United set up as a trainee under iconic manager Matt Busby in the mid-1950s. Busby handed him his league debut as a 17-year-old on 22 April 1957 where he netted in a 2-0 win over Burnley.

Dawson didn't feature often in the first half of the 1957-58 campaign. The striker featured more prominently after the Munich disaster struck in February 1958 and eight United players tragically lost their lives due to the air crash. The Scot scored on the club's first game after the crash, during a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup. Dawson was a regular figure in the side towards the end of the season and bagged a hat trick in the FA Cup semi final over Fulham.

RIP Alex. Hope someone in Red does you and all us fans proud by replicating your magnificent achievement this Sunday.
That would be a beautiful moment and a tribute well worthy of the man. it would be wonderful if Ighalo netted three.

Don't sign old players and cast offs
The Black Prince.

When I was at primary school in Preston every kid in the playground said they were him. A Busby Babe, scored 45 in 80 for United, 114 in 197 for Nob End, including the 64 FA cup final.

Came in after Munich and gave 100 percent for the club. His technique and ability to head the ball with force and direction was exceptional, a fearless centre forward who perhaps did not get the recognition he deserved during his time at the club.

Walter Crickmer started it all...
Held all sorts of goalscoring records in our youth team and still holds the record for the most goals in the FA Youth Cup with 43.

Lovely guy too. I interviewed for my book 'Sons of United' a few years back and he was brilliant.

Remember watching him against Burnley he had a Man of the Match type of game, took everything the Burnley centre half dished out to him and still bullied their defence.
After the game the Burnley Chairman " Bob Lord", called him a Teddy Boy, which was then a derogatory remark inferring a trouble maker.
