That's definitely a problem, we lack quality on the bench to come on and change a game and Ole knows it. Ighalo is probably the only one who can make an impact.
Because this is absolutely true, it is even more baffling that we didn't rest the starters against Chelsea. As much as I hated Mourinho, he chose the EL in the season we won it and focused everything on that front.

So your idea when we’re up against it is to bring on more players who don’t hold onto the ball? I mean you have a point. It worked so well vs Soton
Cos we were holding the ball this game? If it was a case of we were cutting through them but playing open at the back I'd get your point but we showed absolutely nothing in that second half after the goal. The only reason they didn't score is cos they kept missing, not because we defended so well as individuals or as a team.

We showed nothing going forward or defensively. As Neville said, Noble was made to look like Del Piero. I don't get what the others on the bench could have done worse except boot it into our own net

Yes Ole is unable to coach James into improving his form after his last game when he didn't play well a few days ago. /s
I may be wrong, but I think there's a difference between James being too bad to play Chelsea as a striker in a Cup semifinal and being too bad to provide width and fresh legs agains fecking West Ham.

Kind of feel McTominay and Fred should have started a couple of our last few games. They seem a pretty obvious solution to a lack of energy in the team. Would have let us rotate Pogba and Bruno a bit so at least one didn't look dead on their feet.
Hard to say how to go about the game on Sunday. First team look worn out and the few players you'd trust to cover have gotten very little game time recently, hard to expect them to hit the ground running.

Who is voting for Maguire to be MoM! He is once again useless on the ball and thinks he’s beckenbauer.

All of our defenders need to be on a 3 touch rule max

matic needs to be told not to dribble towards pogba

I still Believe we are only a couple players away but they need to be quality, the Lindelofs and maguires are decent players but we need a top player back their to bridge the gap to city.

on a brighter note can we all just take a breath and see that we are 3rd in the table and only need to avoid defeat against a very under performing Leicester

People saying Rashford couldn't be bothered :houllier: He's very obviously knackered but to say he doesn't care is just so wrong.

The whole team are tired and it's baffling that Solskjaer won't sub on McTominay bearing in mind how little Pogba and Fernandes are offering - both technically and physically tonight. Similarly, it says how little he rates Dalot that Fosu-Mensah starts.

Really great take from Greenwood, so important as well as we didn't create anything more.

We have very little past the first XI and that's why our form has dropped off so drastically.
Rashford has come back from a really bad injury, he will not be as fit as other players. He was bound to run out of gas.

Running on empty. The difference is all down to energy levels off the ball.

No movement = no passing options and slow play.

Let’s hope adrenaline plays a part on Sunday as it will be like a cup final.

We obviously didn't look good today, but let's be honest-- the players are absolutely exhausted. We don't have a big enough tent, at least for now, to play this many matches in such a short period of time.

We need a point on Sunday, and I think we will get it. I have faith.

This has been an issue since the back end of last season... we’re becoming a team that can beat anyone as underdogs, but reliably bottles any real opportunity... it needs sorting, and sharpish

If it was just tiredness, then the lack of subs is inexcusable.

Midfield shocking, lack of aggression, Pogba and Matic taking too many touches, slowing the play right down, That moment in 1st half Fosu Mensah was wide open, Pogba took unneeded extra touches and by the time he passed fosu mensah was offside. Then Fernandes giving the ball away cheaply didn't help. You can see what Fernandes is trying to do, he's trying to play that killer pass everytime, I think he just had a bad day, but he hasn't looked great since Villa game onwards. Even when he's poor though he can grab a goal and have an assist, so I'm not too bothered about, the other 2 I don't know, both 6 ft plus and let Noble run around like a prime Xavi. No aggression in winning the ball back, Matic giving away cheap free kicks isn't being physical, it's lazy. Defence has it's issues but that's a midfield that is too spread out, and offers no defensive cover at all to midfield runners from the opposition.

We could easily get beaten away at Leicester and that is the likely scenario now.
Not rotating vs Chelsea has screwed us. The first team could have had 6 days rest and been a lot fresher-making it likelier of a big win
That was an idiotic decision and we basically finished the last thirty minutes with 7 players on the pitch because Rashford, Fernandes, Pogba and Martial were just dead on their feet and didn't offer anything. How Bruno played the ninety I will never know, should have brought in McTominay for him and pushed Pogba up.

We are not getting anything against Leicester, our defense is a walking disaster and that team doesn't have enough energy to create enough goal scoring opportunities away at a decent side. This was just a disaster, we are done for the season.

Predictable. Awful performance, no intensity, no control, no cohesion. One brilliant goal thanks to two supremely talented attackers.

We have zero chance to get anything at Leicester. I don't know if it's tiredness, poor tactics, lack of mental strength, or all of these combined - but it's all set up to be a limp 2-1 defeat.

They'll come at us, press us, harass us, and will take the lead. Someone will pull a goal out of nothing to equalise but Leicester will take the game to us, eventually score a second. Then we'll faff about a bit and go out with a whimper.

Poor performance but things really aren't as bad as some are making it out to be. A few months back we would have been delighted to be in this position, needing just a draw on the final day of the season to secure Champions League football.

What is obvious is the impact the Bruno has had on the team, the last few games he has looked off the pace and we have struggled, it's startling how reliant we are on his brilliance.

We played too slow today, the transition between defence, midfield and attack was slow and sloppy. Matic was slow on the ball, Pogba not really involved and the front four struggled to combine (apart from for Greenwood's goal which was lovely football). Changes should probably have been made earlier but I'm not sure anyone other than Igahlo would have made much of a difference. West Ham were sat deep which Dan James would have struggled with and I'm not convinced Fred or Scott would have changed much. Maybe Mata could have helped create something has his link-up play with Bruno and Igahlo has been decent, but not sure who he could have come on for.

Overall a dissapointing result and we need to improve if we want to take points off Leicester.

Here's to squeeky bum time on Sunday!

What quality was on display? I’d understand if they were close to playing well but they weren’t. That was as bad a performance as we’ve put in all season. Including games where all of the hated backups played.
So matic and Pogba probably keep the ball better than any one in our team, even on a off day. However your idea is to bring on players who don’t hold onto the ball well enough against a team that’s pressing us. You may have something there. I mean it worked so well vs soton

I thought games like this, at home against relegation teams, that your subs should be playing. Otherwise, what the feck are they for? Why Tom, Fred, James and Ighalo didn't start is mind boggling.

And Ighalo is bang average. Think about that.. the only players on our bench that could make any kind of impact is bang average Ighalo that not even Watford wanted. Ole does not trust anyone on that bench, and i do not blame him.
Haha, turn on all of them! Yeah that’ll make you feel better! Do it!

Who cares how we looked. We got the draw which takes some pressure off Sunday. I would've taken a draw if offered before the game.

The players just need to find it in themselves for one more game - if we can't manage to not lose on Sunday we don't deserve champs league anyway.

Our skill level was extremely poor tonight. The amount of first touches that went astray was disgraceful. Also, how many times did a West Ham player get a block or half block on an attempted pass? This struck me as a team who lack heart and courage. There was no one on the pitch to drive them on. They were waiting for something to happen rather than trying to make something happen.
it is difficult to see how they are going to improve enough for the Leicester game. Whatever happens I don’t want to see Rogers smirking like a moron on Sunday.

tumescent performance

I get been tired but why just run yourself into the ground for the sake of the team?

Williams and Rashford were shocking

Matic has lost his legs again

Pogba is well fecking Pogba

Bruno is out of petrol

Ole daren’t take a risk.

Tonight was the epitome of the last 7 years, they could be forgiven had we fell over the line tonight but we just played like we didn’t want to lose and that is shameful.

If we make it on Sunday I’ll be delighted but should we fail then there can be no excuses. We’ve been handed 3 chances in the last few weeks to get it done and we’ve got one left.

Greenwood seems to be correct in every single decision.

Ole has done brilliantly to get us in to third with the squad he’s had available through the season.

Reinforcements are needed, Thiago and Sancho would do nicely.

Right lads as fergie used to say we always do it the hard way, Leicester will have 7 days rest.:wenger::wenger:
Good post. On to Leicester.

Why is he so reluctant to go to plan B when it's clear something isn't working.

Igahlo deserved at least 20 minutes to make a mark on the game but we kept the same team that couldn't break them down all match.

Dreadful. I can honestly see Leicester beating us on Sunday.

What would you have done differently?
Many were screaming to bring ighalo in early. Noticed as soon as he came had a chance? Because his presence changes the structure. If rashford out of form that means no wing, plus no shaw means very weak left. Playing out of form rashford with williams is stupid management. Fine you taka a chance and start with them but when you realize something is wrong you need to be bold and make sub in early second half, not 85th minute. That's criminal.

Pogba was offering little in the middle. Guy lost his confidence. Fine, shit happens. But when there is lack of movement from the deep then he needs support. In this case greenwood should have been sacrificed for fred somewhere near 75th and let pogba work little up. Play martial left to center and bring ighalo more in the middle. Other option to sacrifice martial for fred. Either way there would be a balanced midfield to move the ball around with a target man (ighalo) and in form striker (martial or greenwood) on the pitch. Absolutely clueless to insist to field greenwood, martial and rashford together till 85th minute. This is romanticism by Ole and not being pragmatic in game management.

When United were cruising , they were playing the same team week in week out. Other teams were rotating and perhaps dropping points because of it but I think the feeling was if you play the same team towards the end of the season the players would turn out to be knackered. It was a difficult choice and I think with the momentum Ole made the correct call but it’s whether they can get through one more game.

Jesus Christ have Leicester all of a sudden turned into peak Barcelona ?!

If we can't hold them to at least a draw when they need to come out and play against us we don't deserve Champions League - they're missing some key players and old man Vardy has played as many matches as our best players.

I know they've had a couple extra days rest but it's now the real Cup Final and the prize is insight - keep the faith fellas

We're completely fecked. What does everyone expect? We've played the same team for the last six weeks and it shows.

Let's just hope we can sneak over the line on Sunday. The very fact we are in this position is incredible though.

I like Ole but have to say the way the team has been run into the ground suggests there’s a lot for him to learn in this respect

We are so turning into a team of bottlers. This is the second consecutive season we are messing up at a critical juncture.
