If we intend on continuing with playing out from the back then he will be key. He is excellent at bringing the ball forward.

He was really good today, a proper defensive performance.
Anyway, I thought he was okay. Obviously booked for a missed tackle and gave the ball away with his passing more than he usually does. There was also a cross where he flapped his arms in the air like it was under complete control, but actually he missed the ball and Maguire just about blocked the shot behind him. So far from perfect but he wasnt punished for that mistake and he did a decent amount of defending. Neither Maguire nor him were great, not sure who I thought had the better game as Maguire had his own dodgy moment
This is what refusing to admit you were wrong looks like.

He surprised me today. Played really well. Whereas I usually think he's the weak link and has a mistake in him, today he was MOTM by quite a distance.

We have Jones, Rojo, Smalling, Bailly, Tuanzebe, TFM and Maguire hasn't been good. Why would we sell Lindelöf?
True.. he put up his best display when we needed him the most, even we add another quality CD still he can be a valuable asset

He was excellent today.

Think he benefits from the limelight being on Maguire due to him being £80m/captain/English.

His mistakes this season have become rarer and in the meantime he's just solid. If you're not really mentioning your centre backs then you're doing alright.

When it mattered he showed up today. I personally feel he is better than Maguire at everything apart from headers

You saying you we're surprised implies you don't think he's capable of putting in performances like today.

He has done so many times. He's better than Maguire IMO.
When you put that comment in context with the rest of the post it makes total sense. So, again, I'll suggest you read the entire post. Feck me.

No he isnt, where do you see that from? He is ok at doing the basics passing around the back which any decent premiership defender should be able to. When he tries to come out with the ball he often over runs it, he barely completes any complex passes out from the back, often over hitting them. Biggest myth of Lindelof to me is that he is good on the ball, utter nonsense.

I do think he was player of the match for us by far today, not that it was difficult but he certainly was key in gettin gus into the CL as almost eerybody else around him was absolutely awful today, he played well

What?

You said he's usually the weak link which is a lazy assumption :houllier:
Christ almighty. You started banging on about implications, like there was some king of hidden message in that post. I'll elaborate seeing as you're clearly struggling here. He's generally poor in the air, can be quite easily out muscled and a bit weak under pressure. I don't usually have that much faith in him.

Today I thought he did everything well and had a really solid game. He didn't head crosses back into dangerous areas and wasn't bullied by their forwards. He played really well.

Go ahead and focus on one or two parts of that post while totally ignoring the rest.

I'm not talking about passing. He is pretty effective at running with the ball and driving forward due to his skill on the ball and mobility/pace.

Fair play, he was brilliant today when we really needed him the most. He was the only player on the pitch that actually raised their level in a crucial scenario

A few games a go I was proposing it might be time to try Bailey with Maguire, today he was man of the match when we needed it most. Fair play to him.

Thanks for addressing everything I wasted my time typing only to come back to smileys and a total lack of insight or commentary.

What are you going on about :houllier:

You're acting like You've written paragraph upon paragraph and I've taken a word or two out of it without any context. You wrote one line pal.

I genuinely don't care that much FFS

OK, wel in that case I disagree even less then. What skill on the ball and pace are you seeing? Maguire is reasonable at it but often over runs the ball, Lindleof runs into trouble regularly doing it. I know the last few years we have had some pretty dreadful players in possession of the ball but that shouldnt cloud your judgement. The one player that does have skill, pace and the ability to drive forward with the ball is Bailly, but he seems to do it so much without fear and so much in the wrong areas it is frightening at times

What has Lindelof excelled at this season? Tell me what you like about him and at least give me some vague idea about how we're both approaching this conversation. Something beyond emojis would be terrific.

Why, based on the last season, do you rate him so highly?

You don't think he is fast?

I've noticed much more in recent games he has been picking the ball up and driving into the opposing half, quite effectively too.

If he can step up a level for next season it would really be a timely boost.
He needs to stop being bullied against stronger opponents.

Coped excellently with Vardy today. Matched him in a race at what point which was great.
Seems his problem attackers are of the hold-up/bully type ala Giroud, but if he can find a while to deal with those high-ball bully boys, he'll be valuable for us.

He is nothing special, but he is also nothing worse than Maguire. Had a good game today, and could definitely teach Maguire thing or two about passing the ball and keeping up the tempo.
