Maguire. Yes hes not Van Dijk. Yes we overspent on him. Yes he's slow. There are lots of excuses ifs and but and maybes. To be honest Im not even convinced of him myself. But you cant argue with him in terms of player of the year.
1) Played every game. Every game! Think about that for one of our defenders!
2) The defense is the third best in the league. It no coincidence we came third. Chelsea had similar goals scored or slightly better but the defence was much worse. Yeah everyone is going to say becaus ewe played more defensive and blah blah blah. But that doesnt chance the fact does it.
3) He came in and was captain. Again you can argue pros and consof his captaincy but again he captained us to third. Fact. Job done.
4) He had ups an downs but never dropped off like Fred or Wan B who dropped off the cliff after the break.

I cant see anyone more deserving. Is he the best player? No. Was he too expensive etc? Yes. But he was definitely the most consistent and gave the most over the whole year.

I would give it to Bruno, but it's understandable if people consider him ineligble. Gotta be Rashford.

My pick is Martial. He's really knuckled down and the way he's playing the 9 role has been integral to our season.

He just pips Rashford with an extra assist too.

Bruno was fantastic but was only here for half a season so I can't give to him.

That is some weird logic from the get-go.

If you insist.

- he is slow;
- you aren't convinced with him;
- he played every game (shouldn't be among the most deciding factors);
- you can argue against his captaincy, but he is the captain;
- had lots of ups and downs;
- he was not our best player
- too expensive

In short, you are not building a particularly strong case here.

Martial. Our top scorer this season. He perfect the no.9 role for us.

AWB. He may not be a fullback we desire (yet), but when it comes to RB defending, he is the best in the world. No united player can claim that in their respective specialization. He completely blocked the right side from attacking which hugely contributed to our good defensive record over a long period this season.

Hard to do after such contrasting halves to the season. Rashford was indispensable early on. Martial has really shown improvement towards the end, as has Matic. Bruno has been incredible for much of the latter half.

Apart from completely running out of gas in the past 4 games, I'll have to say that Wan Bissaka has produced the consistency over both halves.
Seeing Sterling virtually crumble after being dominated, was great fun.
Teams even loaded the opposite side to avoid him.
Hope he has his feet up now for a week or two.

I believe Martial deserves it above all others, a close second would be Rashford if not for his poor performances prior to Martial coming back from injury and after the restart. If Fernandes had been here the whole season, he probably would be my vote but as it stands, he's a solid third choice.

18/19 and definitely 16/17 are way tougher.

This one is easily Bruno vs Rashford. Rashford gained more favor for not missing one-half of this season.

Martial is recency bias, almost no one is saying he's poty last year nor last jan/feb this year.
Then there's some who is just amazed by Fred for whatever bizarre reasons that doesn't make sense, backing supposedly by his performances claimed to be he's carrying the whole team.
Bizarre to claim Martial is recency bias. Not only had he scored 16 goals and got a decent number of assists before lockdown and has been our best player since the restart, but our absolute lowest point in the season was quite easily the spell where Martial was injured from August-October. We couldn't score a goal let alone win games, and were even suggested as relegation candidates on ESPN because of our league position. Also 'almost no one is saying he's poty last year or in jan/feb', well the season is 9 months long, it's about who has been the best over the course of the 9 months, not who was the best 3 months in :confused:

For me its very close between Rashford and Maguire

Rashford because he's been excellent for most of the team, and there were periods when he certainly carried the team through

Maguire because he's been a massive presence in a defence thats conceded 18 goals less than the season prior. Played every minute of every game and he's been the leader that this squad needed.

Maguire just edges it IMO.

Had Rashford not been injured it was going to be him. Since the restart he never got going to the same standard.

For that reason it has to be Martial.

Young player of the season. Greenwood.

I'd probably go for Rashford. Is the club having an awards ceremony this year?

Before his injury Rashford was running away with it. But he didn't play at close to that level after he returned.

Bruno changed our season the moment he arrived, so I think I have to give it to him - even when he was off form he would still pop up with an important penalty or assist.

Bruno for me. I know it's only been have a season, but it made all of the difference and that's what POTY is about. Second nomination to Martial. Third to AWB.

Maguire isn't even close. It has to be Martial or Rashford for anybody with objectivity. Personally I would give it to Martial simply because of the effort he has put in this season. He is not just scoring goals but winning penalties, creating chances, dribbling past defenders, putting others through and his finishing this season has been sensational.

Bruno and Greenwood get special mentions. It's not everyday a teenager equals the records set by George Best and Wayne Rooney. It was a special season for him

Player of the year should be the player who has impacted our season the most. I think it has to be Bruno. Half season or not he proved to be the catalyst in our up turn in form and unlocked the potential in Martial, Pogba and Rashford.
Goals, assists, mentality. We wouldn’t have finished 3rd / in the top four without him which has huge implications on the pitch, in the transfer market and for the sponsors. He’s repaid his transfer fee already!

Tony Martial all day long. 95% of his goals have been absolutely beautiful goals. It's also a shame that Fred has been stunted because he was really coming into his own.

Martial had the best numbers both overall and without set pieces, and AWB had the most consistent performances. Those were the two standouts for me. Martial had a very strong finish to the season as well, almost dragging us over the finish line when others weren't playing that well.

Others like Rashford, Bruno, Shaw, and Fred shone brightly at one point or the other, and special mention to Maguire who was ever-present and played through injury at certain points. But I think overall it should be Martial.

Well, shockingly, it's not even a close call for a few different players this season.

Where is the poll? I reckon Rashford is leading but it's not clear cut.

I'll go for rashford. Bruno I feel needed a few more matches to edge it.

Martial IMO, but Rashford has a good claim too. Maybe even Bruno considering that he was the catalyst to our great form.

I think Martial should get it because he was more consistent than Rashford, and played far more games than Bruno.

Without a doubt: Bruno.

He's transformed the club the day he set foot here. Just look at how we were performing prior to his arrival.

The best instant-impact signing since RvP.

Martial, our most productive player, most number of goals, assists and penalties won.
