My friends in Japan (especially in Osaka for instance) certainly gave the impression that they never really locked down. Certainly their social media was far more busy than anyone I knew in Europe or Australia.

I didn't say nothing happened in Japan. Just that they did not do the hard lockdown of Italy or Spain, nor (as far as I'm aware) did they close the borders completely like NZ did for instance.

Certainly their approach was not as heavy as it has been in some of those countries.
It was more of a softer lockdown and largerly enforced by society rather than any heavy government influence. The government here is very reluctant for further lockdowns despite cases rising, they are very concious of the effect it will have on the economy.

Japan reacted faster to what was happening, around february and started their lockdown a good month before Europe. I believe the virus became too estabished in Europe to effectively control it.

I find it baffling that people are arguing about face masks and have already started travelling for holidays in Spain.

It's all about stopping the transmission. Japanese is known to have a very high level of self-discipline and if everyone is wearing a mask when they go out, a hard lock down is not really necessary.

There are societal pressures in Japan to think with a collective mind. Whereas the west is more of a individualistic society. There are ups and downs to both approaches.

We are seeing large increases in the last 2 weeks though as a result of relaxing lockdown measures. So its going to be interesting to see how things develop and what the government decide to do

What does the vote here even mean?! People (60% of them) are wearing masks everywhere all the time because "it's the right thing to do"?! Not just in shops and on public transport?

What a load of rubbish. The caf must exist outside the reality I see daily. Is everyone just lying now? Does that help?

I think the “store and public transport” option was added more recently than the other ones.

Truth like rain don't give a feck who it falls on.

Here I would say that easily 60% of the public outside are either wearing a mask or have one with them that's visible. Maybe it's you that exists outside of reality and you're having trouble accepting that you're a minority and not in sync with society as a whole.

There is overlap between those two choices (1/3), to be fair.

’I have no issue wearing one indoors, which are the only places required.’

Anywhere indoor that is a public space - shops, museums, public transport etc = the right thing to do.

It must depend on where you are, because I'm with @redshaw, 100% worn at Morrisons today, and correctly. Well to be honest except for me, but I dashed across the car park in heavy rain and didn't think in time, then I realised and put one on quick. No one said anything at the doors but we were all dripping wet through so maybe they didn't notice.

Although I have seen some women, sorry to be sexist but it seems to be women, wearing big clear visor-things, which I suspect might protect them a bit but wouldn't stop them coughing on anyone else. Which is kind of the point of masks, maybe the government should have emphasised that a bit more.

If you are talking about this:
The main issue with them in my view is when you breathe normally and not coughing.

They're the ones. I'm maybe being terribly judgmental and sexist but I've only seen them on women that look like they're into fashion.
I've only seen a handful of them here and they all seem to be worn by old blokes without masks.

Yes, and you can clearly see this in Hong Kong. Almost all locals here are wearing a mask but only half of the Westerners are doing the same.

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
This guy has convinced me to never wear a mask, but if I was tested and shown to be Corona Virus infected. I would stay away from other people, and self isolate. Link

The comment on that video are mad. They're saying social distancing is a torture technique, that the government want us all on cctv at all times, and a lot of other stuff

Any of yall believe it?

No problem Pogue, if you believe in all the shit MSM is feeding you, I am Irish too. Pogue Mahone is a well known Irish expert on most health
issues (The Sun) Do some more research please and do not get your information from the MSM. Do you really think that the people running the show do not control the MSM?

A special circle in hell hopefully for charlatan doctors that put people in harms way through misinformation or conspiracy nonsense even if it is through their own idiocy and not malice

No problem wearing a mask if it potentially prevents spread, a second wave and thus, another lockdown. It's a small price to pay for a degree of freedom. People throwing their toys out the pram about wearing one need a slap in the face. Just wear a mask where it is mandatory to fecking wear one. Oh, and wear it with your nose INSIDE, you don't walk around with your cock flopped over the waistband of your underwear do you?

What really irks me are the folks walking about with the gloves. Absolutely infuriates me. We use them in hospital, yes, but only temporarily when dealing with patients and after we're done, we throw them away. We don't proceed to visit the next patient with the same gloves which is exactly what you're doing. Great way to spread it.
