This is not a failure. It is a designed speed bump. It’s been an enrichment program for wealthy mates to move us closer to the original plan.
But the most important thing is that it is a world leading....... failure.

File this under, "it was inevitable really..."

The NI Health Service in launching its own tracker app, using the Goople/Apple API with the local software written by the same company who wrote one for the Irish government.

I shouldn't laugh about a serious topic, but it's that or cry.

As a backdrop to the story for the English, it's worth reading https://www.theguardian.com/comment...us-contracts-government-transparency-pandemic - not about the app as such, more about the government's commitment to keeping their mates on the contract awarding gravy train. Still, I'm sure the app hasn't been impacted by any form of cronyism or nepotism and that it will be world leading when the English variant appears :wenger:

Just to add for the sake of completeness, there's still a question mark over whether any of the bluetooth reliant apps is actually doing anything useful. Take up rates are still relatively low, and the decentralised model means that the apps aren't giving much feedback on numbers of people actually traced or how they responded to the alert. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-53485569

The Italian and Swiss apps both suffer from being too discreet. I have them but i don't know too many others who do, and they've sort of been forgotten about. They exist on your phones without much notification or fanfare. I think both could do with a daily reminder 'congratulations, you haven't caught the virus today' kind of thing.

 Dunno about that but that applies to the Irish one too. i wish there was a daily reminder to tell you to check in. Great app, otherwise, though.
