Even if it was true, Liverpool couldn't even pay for Werner in a title winning season  they aren't getting Sancho.

Negative reporting, love it, all part of the muppetry

* couldn’t afford the boots Sancho plays in, never mind actually buying the player outright. Klopp was desperate for Werner and he was available for a song but they had to humiliatingly pull out of the deal. They’re baulking at Bayern’s valuation of Thiago now too, despite him being available for less than market value.

They are skint. He’s not going there, FFS!

When he said “it’s over”. I basically correlated that to him saying it’s a done deal.

The conviction in his tone is quite reassuring!

FYI the other players he mentioned that we should target were a CM such as Partey, Saul or Ndidi. As well as a CB such as Koulibaly or Ben Godfrey from Norwich.
I'm feckin' sure Rio is a regular on the CAF :D

So we're at the 'player being falsely linked to a big rival' stage. Ticking along nicely.

Plus, where are these rumours actually coming from? Secret reports that only Germans can see?

Ridiculous add ons it is then
If this is true I see this transfer getting stretched out to the end of the window.

If it’s us who’ll eventually cave in then we might as well do it now, which would be in the form of these ridiculous add-ons you’re talking about.

But if we’re playing the waiting game then that game doesn’t end until the window closes by which time Dortmund will have to succumb to our final offer.

Covid has hit them worse then it hit us. I don’t see them keeping Sancho another year no matter what. Our best offer will still be way more then the best offer they could potentially receive next season while also ending up paying Sancho another years worth of wages.

They can cave too. Sancho can request to move, and the players come back to training tomorrow so I'd expect there to be an uncomfortable environment. Dortmund have made a loss this year and whilst they may be able to buy players the fact remains they will be more comfortable in the process if they received monies for Sancho to help fund their business. It's in both club's interest to get a swift deal. I don't think Dortmund will get much by drawing this out.

This will drag on until October, you should all know this. We know Woodward / Judge use the ticking clock as a negotiation tactic.

Exactly! I truly hope we stay strong and save whatever we can!

They literally bought him as an investment and that investment won’t peak any higher after this summer.

Honestly I hope we wrap up this deal before Sancho rejoins the team training. There are already rumours that Reus and Haaland are trying to convince him to stay. Now with Bellingham - who idolizes Sancho - joining them, he might like the idea of staying for another season. Trying to challenge Bayern and having a pick of all the top clubs after the Euros...

I wonder if we see some real movement/development today. Dortmund return to training tomorrow, don't they? I fully expect he'll be there, but I doubt any side wants an umcofortable situation. Dortmund players who wanted to leave have gone on strike before, after all.

Dortmund suspended him a couple of times this season on off field disciplinary grounds. Are we signing a trouble maker?
They were mainly because he wanted to go home and returned late. he won't have that issue at United.

Not sure if it's because of the whole pandemic, but I'm finding it difficult to get as invested in this 'saga'. It's been very boring in comparison. I just hope it's concluded quick. So he can start training with the team earlier, or so we can look at alternate targets

Sancho wants to leave. Only United want him. It seems like this will end with a pretty obvious conclusion.

Usually I'd say "just pay up", but the reality is, the financial status of the world has completely changed and we should be looking to pay the correct fee.

Dortmund's posturing is just one of those things as well, I just can't see them walking away from 100 million euros in this financial climate. No matter what Kicker or any other rag says.

Glad you have found that I'm a regular in CAF. Like my post, make a full member soon or else I will sign for Liverpool.

@Fortitude Thoughts on Sancho possibly playing in the Bruno role for some games (when Bruno needs a rest) which allows us to spend money elsewhere instead of on Grealish?

Ofcourse we're buying him as a RW first and formost but his adaptability at 20 is another reason he's worth so much imo

I'm also not convinced this will happen. But to play both sides.... If it is true that he misses England and wants to play in the PL, then Man United is the obvious choice. He was a youth player at city, so I assume his family is based there. United now offer Champions League football. United also have a number of young players too. I've seen from his Social Media that he's often hanging around with friends who are wearing United shirts, so I'd say that's his crowd.

The other options if we wants CL football with an English team are Man City and Liverpool. And if either one went balls-deep to get him, I'd imagine they'd become favorites. But towards the end of his time at city he refused to train and didn't leave on the best terms. This was under Guardiola still, so i'd be surprised if that's a happy marriage. Also for all of city's spending, I think their record buy is still well short of what Dortmund would want for Sancho.

Liverpool - the chance to join the champions. Close to home. If they went for it, again, I can see them quickly becoming favorites. But again, I don't think Klopp is the type who'd want to spend such a chunk of his budget on one player. Especially as then, Sancho would have to be a starter when fit and it breaks up his trio of Salah, Mane and Firmino who have won him both a CL and PL in the last year. All are still in their 20's too.

I've written a lot here. So any feedback on what I said?

Once bitten twice shy.

How many transfers have we seen that look to be in this "formality" stage where all we're talking about "the personal terms are agreed, it's just the last details with the club" or "he'll probably have a medical on X date" - for it then to just completely fall through.

I could probably sit here listing them for 30 minutes and still forget some. Last summer there was a space of 2 weeks where De Ligt looked like a genuine target, Dybala looked like it was going to get done in a swap for Lukaku, Morata was practically done - talk of a medical, terms agreed with Madrid etc at various stage, then one day poof. Griezmann is maybe the most similar to this one, where it seemed we were just waiting for CL qualification, the player was desperate to join us... then one day the stories out of nowhere came out that United "had no interest" - and that was that.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if this follows the same pattern where something goes wrong behind the scenes, United get fed up of Dortmund not lowering the price or something. Then the "United are looking at other targets after failing to reach a breakthrough with Dortmund over the fee for Jadon Sancho." briefs.
Thanks a lot to all of you who replied. Lots of information, some good reasoning, some hopeful reaches. I hope we really are in for him.

Correct. Bild is far more reliable.
I haven‘t been reading German press for about three years now, but Kicker is a football magazine and Bild is a newspaper with a long history of making up stories. Kicker used to be way more reliable.

Good question which I guess there's a few ways of looking at:

- Fernandes does a hell of a lot of running and working backwards when he loses the ball or when space needs shoring up (which was one of the reasons he was so knackered by the final run of games. Sancho is a lot of things offensively, but his defensive capacity and work-rate isn't in the same ball park as Fernandes', so if he were to slot in, I think you'd need a more robust midfielder than Pogba behind him. Matic and Fred/McTominay for example and have Sancho play as more of a Rui Costa or Iniesta etc. whose actions are nearly all about how to harm the opposition whilst others cover for them.

- Fernandes' has a wide range of passes/passing both high and low and he spreads play easily with 30+ yard balls out wide. Sancho, to date, hasn't really shown a wide range of passing techniques and nearly all his work comes by way of short, sharp passing and combination plays and tight interchanges that require others to do their bit before he works the space - I've not seen him cut out swathes of players with passes in one go like both Pogba and Fernandes can, so again, you're looking at a very different approach to the role. I'm not saying less effective, just different.

On the whole, however, Sancho has the ability to play on the half-turn; the awareness of his surroundings to not get caught out and he couldn't care less if he goes left or right before facing the opposition, which makes marking him tightly or preventing him from facing your goal is incredibly difficult. From the moment he turns, he's already looking for the next option, and he tends to make the best decisions on top of that, too.

I'm pretty certain he'll be a mainstay in the middle of the pitch before he's 30 and if he comes here, he'll pop up in the middle in a pseudo role as others scatter a fair amount of times, but taking on the role right now and playing it like Bruno does will probably take some adjustment or some compromise from others behind him to basically cover the aforementioned aspects of his game I personally have yet to see him excel or gravitate towards.

If we saw him in that role with Bruno out for whatever reason it wouldn't particularly shock me, but alongside Pogba it'd also not be a surprise if we're vulnerable through the middle if we lose the ball.

Yeah some good points there. Makes sense regarding Bruno's work rate going backwards & his penerative passing. But could be worth a try (with the likes of McT or Fred behind) as we really can't afford Bruno to burn out next season. With Grealish costing £65m plus, it seems a lot of money when imo we must bring in another centre back to compliment Maguire.

On a positive note going back to Sancho playing RW, his link up with Bruno, Pogba, Martial, Rashford should be a joy to watch. We get Sancho and we're arguably the most exciting side in the league to watch. (and as you pointed our earlier in the thread, if AWB steps up as well.... then we could have something truely special.)

We have been waiting for ages for a world class right winger. Putting him as an AM should be the least priority.

For the roles he plays, Bruno's work-rate is quite spectacular and I think we have to be aware it's not normal for an offensive midfielder (not in a Pep side) to be so studious on the other side of the ball - Pogba is more the prototypical AM with his lapses in focus and lack of awareness sometimes to make up for his own error or misplaced pass. Not a dig at Pogba, just a very normal reaction for most offensive midfielders to have, and as far as I've seen, Sancho is more your typical offensive midfielder when he loses the ball so you definitely have to consider that when placing him in a midfield with Pogba and not be pissed off at either of them for not being switched on as they're not outliers in regard to what you normally get from a player there.

But in terms of versatility, absolutely Sancho starts one postion, covers for the other flank any time it's needed, and for me, would be the smartest choice as cover for Fernandes if we didn't put Pogba there - either way, there's a player who can take on the role and influence play, but just needs the correct set up behind him to optimise his particular style.

Funny, in a half-decade or so it's Iniesta who I believe Sancho will be most compared to. That is to say, when his flank days are over and he moves in-field full-time.

I think 100m with 20m in add ons is a good deal for both sides. I see this happening relatively quickly.
