due to a buyback clause we will get the option to match that bid. Not so sure we will tbh

Expect a massive bid for a Full back in the next few days, who everyone will hype up only for them to completely disappear 2 weeks into the season
How many fullbacks have gone through their hands in the last few years?

Nathan Ake is playing very well for borenmouth, left footed centre half who is composed on the ball and always looks to pass the ball forward. Now aged 23 he has a good amount of premier league experience and should be attainable.
Not bad for a first post, would have been half the price of Harry but is definitely not half the player. Maybe he wouldn’t have given us the leadership that Harry offers which has played a part in getting 3rd place.

Kinda annoying to see another player we lot go move to a top side.
What's that livewire wing back/ winger called that Brighton signed from you? I reckon he might be another one you know.

Such a profound opinion but have to disagree, Ed Woodward is a shitehouse when it comes to negotiations and transfers. City have had ONE bad year and their getting business done early. Torres and Ake are solid deals. But don’t worry, Ed and the club board are also responding with ““, so you have a lot in common with incompetent Ed.

Not anything special and overpriced. He could overperform under Pep but I wouldn't bet on it.

2018/19 with Fred, Dalot and Grant done before 4th July.

Our business in 2015/16 was done quickly too (Schneiderlin, Darmian Depay, Schweinsteiger), bar Martial but that one had to wait as Monaco refused to sell until they lost the qualification for the CL.
With hindsight, the Martial and Fred transfers aside, those are two terrible transfer windows. Out of those signings, the one that disappoints me the most is Depay as I was certain he would be a great player for us. Darmian looked promising at first, too.

An ever present in one of the worst defences in the league in recent years?

I'm not sure he is what City or we needed (assuming we are hunting for a CB) but it'll be interesting to see how he does at a big club.

Tariq Lamptey. We actually wanted to keep him but his contract was coming up and the player rejected our offer (didn't want to be 3rd choice behind Reece James and Azpi).

But yeah, I'd be surprised if he does not end up at a bigger club than Brighton eventually.

41m to sit in the bench when they inevitably sign a more high profile CB

Either that or they think Ake is going to be good enough to partner Laporte next season

Either way ridiculous

Freds done alright but the guy was like £50-55m. If we got him for £25m then sure. But at that price to be a squad player is a perfect example of a bad transfer.

Might stop supporting them  Not sure I could ever do that mate.. Once a red always a red.
Fair enough, it's a tricky one. You could argue that modern consumerism means we all deal in dirty money to a certain degree, but Saudia Arabia's human rights record is too much for me. I don't think I could ever really enjoy the football properly knowing what was driving it.

I'm not sure why most people are saying he is overpriced when we spent £30m on Eric Bailly!

I'm really disappointed that we didn't sign him, not because I think he is world class but he would provide an excellent foil to Maguire in that he is left footed and pacey which I would say are two of the main attributes we should be looking at for a partner to Harry.

Mate, he is 100% correct.

You never been shopping before ?

You look in your wallet and see you only got £100 what you going to spend it on ? You got to think about it, as you only got the £100

Now you look in your wallet, eeehh uck the wallet, you dont need no wallet, you got so much money money has no value.

That you dont get this, well, thats the state of society today innit ..................

Yes city have a bottomless pit of cash but they also have a real DOF that seems to understand the basics of transfer business. You can get deals done early, negotiate before the season ends and work on multiple deals if you have someone in charge that actually understands football from the sporting side. It’s not just that they got Ake, it’s how quickly they moved on addressing needs after having ONE bad season. Sancho admittedly is a more complex deal however, getting a CB is not. If we have a long list of targets and a vast scouting network then why not work on getting those deals completed while simultaneously working on Sancho. Ake for £40 million is a no brainer, a simple deal with a relegated club yet we’ll probably hear that we were too late in registering our interest.

Largely because discussion extends as far as every player our opponents sign being shit.

Ake has shown himself to be a decent premier league CB and when you have Bailey at 30m and Harry at 80 then Ake looks good value to me.

People comparing signing a relegated Ake and a no name player with 1 year on their contract to Jadon Sancho  I wonder why this is taking longer ?!

Sometimes being ignorant is bliss, suppose you could argue that in my case. I'm just fed up of the noisy fecking neighbors going for players that we were looking at first. Pep has a uncanny nack of improving them. Testament to how good he is I suppose, it hurt saying that.

He's really not an upgrade on either Lindelof or Maguire so I wouldn't be disappointed as a United fan that you weren't interested or didn't get this deal over the line. He's better than Otamendi and on the same level as Stones - Good defenders and decent on the ball but nothing special/haven't really kicked on with their early potential.

Should cover Laporte well and probably LB as well. Guess Zinchenko could be sold now with Mendy, Cancelo and Ake available.

DOF or no DOF, its not the reason City can "get things done" in a jiffy where we "dilly dally"

Its all down to the $$$.

Why are we even discussing this, thats two posts gone out of the 5.

All the best!

I really don't get it with Ake. Doesn't seem like he'd improve City at all defensively.

If he's meant to be their starting CB probably not... but if they're gonna buy another one he's the guy to fill in when Laporte inevitably gets injured, then it's a decent move.

The money is a lot, but City hardly care about money... £40m on a back-up CB is about right.

I think Pep wanted a quick, physical, left-footed CB who can also cover LB so not many options there. Selling Zinchenko + Angelino will probably cover a big part of Ake's transfer fee anyway.

Half decent backup, who won't mind warming the bench most of the season and more importantly counts as Home grown. The cost doesn't matter so much for them

I don't think we will either. Nor should we. I also don't think he'd choose us, if we tried.

That's the guy, cheers. Yeah, shame you couldn't pacify him with some minutes. He looks a real prospect.

Was sad when we sold him. Was probably a better DM than CB or LB. After all it was watford that mostly played him as a LB.

Shouldn’t expect us to match the fee as Ampadu is much better than Ake was at his age and can also play similar positions.

I thought he would be going for cheaper than £40M. I still think they will go after Koulibaly.

You mean Garcia will be second choice? Stones will be sold
If they an find a buyer. I just say I don’t think Garcia looked great either. Not seen enough to make a fair judgement though I guess.

Garcia will be a RCB back-up, however Barca really want him back and he's got contract only until 2021.
